Warmongering in this game is like meth. Once you start, you can't stop until you're dead :shifty: .

False! In my Korea game because of that Great Library->National College science turbocharge I ended up with a huge tech edge on my island. I knew i'd hit cannon before anyone else in the world could even sail oceans. I wiped out everyone on my island and now i'm teching to science victory.

I built Frigates and sent them exploring after clearing my island and no-one's the wiser about my warmongering ways. Dead men denounce no tales, after all.

BTW - really protect your catapults as Korea because once you hit Physics you can't build anymore siege until cannon (which I had to beeline when my catapults started to dwindle :(

When I found the other continent, it had Monty, Genghis Khan AND Shaka on it. Theodora had already fallen.

Wait, an island filled with some of the biggest threats in the game, and Monty was still alive? How does that happen?! My last game had Monty and Attila as neighbors, and Monty was already dead by the time I got there.

I really need to stop playing so much Civ, I'm having dreams about it >_>

Also, I despise Hiawatha when I'm not him. He's always too happy to declare war on me for my warmongering before I can find his capital and wipe him out, thus forcing me into the defensive. Stupid hippy bastard. On the other hand, he's also the Civ I've managed to get my best score with, so I can't be totally annoyed with him.

So, does this mod count as a cheat? :shifty:

Anyway, Sousa discovered and I confirmed a pretty messed up bug. It seems that with the Reformation Belief that lets you purchase Industrial (and Later) units with Faith...does not allow you purchase UU's :( . I don't know if this is intentional or not, but it's pretty crappy (and one reason Sousa rage quit :shifty: ).

I honestly have no idea who I want my next game to be. Ethiopia...the Stele's...okay, I guess. Yay, Faith. Like I don't know how to get that <_< . Other Civs look like they'd have a marginal bonus at best, like France. The problem with that is the AI typically aims for Culture victories by default, and while that would be an absolutely awesome ability on any difficulty below Prince, once you hit Prince, you can pretty much forget about any Ancient or Classical Wonders that have theming slots (Well, Pantheon, but who cares, no bonus :shifty: ), I'm not even sure what Medieval ones there are for that, if any, so it's really not that great, I think. Chateaus look cool, but I'd have to really see what they can do.

America is not one I'd considering playing, and certainly not the Mongols (They are not the exception.) So...yeah. Maybe go crazy with the Aztecs or Songhai?

And that reminds me, I think my next few games might be with Barbs on (...:shifty:...) and Pangaea. I have naval conquest down, it's a bit of a joke, really. What I need to work on is a variety of situations where I have to go to war with pre-Industrial units. I've pulled this off with the Zulu for obvious reasons (IMPI SPAM!), but more traditional tactics and what not is what I need to learn and practice. The Aztecs and Songhai seem like they'd be good for pulling that off.

That's not a cheat, I miss ol' Nimoy's voice.

Also, France is good if you mix culture and war. Cheateaus not only give the working buffs, but also act like a fortress, meaning you basically protect your borders and luxuries with very little cost.

If you do Aztecs, turn raging barbs on, get a start where you can build floating garden early (preferably with plenty of jungle and near a nice big lake for a big food boost to offset going with honor over tradition), and just throw your Jaguars out there. Waaaaay too fun. You might not take cities like Atilla, but you'll have a strong buffed early army to start throwing at Civs when you get to ranged units.

EDIT : Oh and all jaguar upgrades keep their abilities, so build lots.

America is not one I'd considering playing

The challenge of playing America is that they possibly the closest to a "vanilla" Civ as the game has. Your unique units are meaningless unless you are fond of sweeping Musketmen rushes, and their UA is so insignificant it's hardly worth mentioning. There is no victory route that obviously suits them above any other, so you're automatically playing catch-up to every other Civ on the map as they can better specialise.

And if that sounds fucking tedious...then it is.

America I'd pose as a domination Civ, with science as a secondary victory option. Two unique units that, whilst not amazing, come at perfect eras for a war-rush. Their land purchasing ability isn't particularly impressive though unless you build a solid economy, and if you've got a solid economy then you really don't have reason to be purchasing land tiles. But yeah, as far as "starter" Civs go, they're pretty much as vanilla as you're going to get.
