Add Averno to a WWE open deal, he has signed with them and is expected to finish out with CMLL and straight to the main roster to feud with Mistico (mistake.)

Averno, one of the top rudos for CMLL for the half decade, has signed a contract with WWE. Averno is joining the US promotion to resume his feud with Misitco (now Sin Cara) as an unmasked heel. The plan was for him to lose his mask to La Mascara at June 17th’s Jucio Final, but plans may change as this news gets out. Multiple sources have confirmed to me both Averno’s signing and his imminent mask loss.

WWE has been unhappy with Sin Cara’s matches so far. Atypically, they’ve sought to resolve this by bringing in more agreeable opponents for him to work with. The story I was told is WWE went to Sin Cara and asked him that if he could work with anyone in the world, who would he most like to work with. Obviously, he picked his long time rival (and probably close friend) Averno. WWE earlier had Averno in for a tryout last October, the same tryout Mistico and Diamante were at (and which Durango Kid helped set up), but decided not to sign him at that time. Things have changed, and Averno secretly signed with WWE during their last tour of Mexico.

It’s worth noting this is not actually an expanded WWE raid of CMLL luchadors or lucha style wrestlers in general. They want Averno to fill a specific need. I do not believe this directly increases (or decreases) their chances of signing anyone else from Mexico. To put it simply, WWE signing Averno does not mean they’re about to sign Fantasma or Sombra or anyone else.

This is also a big risk for Averno; he’s coming in for a defined spot, but there may not be plans past that; compare Averno to Tyson Kidd, who works the style they WWE prefers, is very good at it, and is barely on their roster. Dropping your mask and going to WWE in hopes of a big push worked out for Alberto Del Rio, but not so much for Rey Ortiz. Since the plan is for him to work against Sin Cara, I expect he will be brought to the main roster quickly, and not go to FCW.

Averno has not informed CMLL of his WWE signing. Instead, Averno only told their programming department he wanted to lost his mask ASAP and, if they weren’t willing to do it, he would go to whichever outside promoter could pay him the most to drop it. CMLL agreed to do it there and scrambled their plans for June (a cage match which would’ve included the Gen11/Rayos feud and probably other rivalries; no loser had been definitively been decided), putting Averno’s mask loss in on 06/17. Mascara Dorada would’ve been the preferred choice to win the mask, but he’s locked in with NJPW comittements. It’s unknown if other people were considered, but CMLL is said to be a very divided and unhappy place at the moment, and politics surely played some role in the decision (as they do in most.)

As I write this, I believe upper CMLL management is still unaware of Averno signing with WWE (though I’m the impression that many other people in the company, which again speaks to the fractured nature of CMLL) and would’ve been when the card for next Friday was announced. Averno is not yet on any of the big six cards next week (GDL/Puebla/Mexico/Coliseo), but I do not believe that has anything to do with this news, and he is scheduled to work shows in Queretaro (Tuesday) and Xalapa (Wednesday).

I have declined to post about this because of that, and because early release of this information may cost people’s jobs, and may cost Averno a big payday. That’s not really worth being first, to me. I’m posting this story now because the word has gotten out to enough people that there’s really no way it can be kept as a secret any more. SuperLuchas has put the Averno to WWE portion on their cover, out today, though they are not confirming the mask loss.

It’s possible that CMLL may pull the match – as much for the betrayal as the result getting out – (though that would mean Averno would just find someone else to pay for the mask), but the CMLL way tends to be to ignore the world around them. Also, they’d be able to beat soon to be WWE star on the way out, and CMLL thinks that would mean a lot to their fans. We’ll se

Where did the dislikes between Christina Von Erie and (Fabi and Mari) Apaches come from?

IIRC, there was a post on the thread a while back stating that Von Eerie left AAA due to an incident with the Apaches... Dunno how much truth there is to it.

Remove Diego DeMarco from NWA-F1

He's one of the founders... At least that's what I've learned through my research. Any specific reason why he should be removed?

Apprently the Galavision CMLL is called Lucha Libre CMLL and that is Galavision's Sunday lucha libre offering.

So, Galavision airs AAA on Saturday and CMLL on Sunday? I thought CMLL and AAA were big rivals... Surprised they'd air on the same network. Anyway, if we need to add a show, what timeslot should it be in? Also, any idea on announcers?

Rename Sal Thomaselli to Sal The Man of 1,000 Gimmicks

"Sal The Man of 1,000 Gimmicks" is too long for the alter egos, so instead, I will rename him to "The Man of 1,000 Gimmicks" and have his short name as Sal.

Change Jinder Mahal's gimmick to Guru

His charisma is at 67. The Guru gimmick needs at least 80 Charisma.

Lex Luger is now in charge of The WWE Wellness Policy.

I probably won't do anything with this this month, but, unless there is a major objection, I'll likely move Luger to staff next month, as last I knew, he's still having a hard tie walking, let alone wrestling. The question would be, where to put him? Being in charge of the wellness policy kinda points to medical, but he's no doctor... Production doesn't really fit... Thoughts? We could keep him as a worker (as a non worker, with staff member gimmick) as well.

Other quick note: While doing research, I learned that Shawn Stasiak is now a chiropractor... Possibly move to medical? From what I understand, he isn't going back to wrestling. yes, I know this contradicts my "Don't remove them under any circumstances" stance I have had in the past, but, I'm starting to think some exceptions should be made. This and Luger were just two that jumped out at me.

I listened to a CVE interview on Diva Dirt and this never came up. Nor has it on luchablog.

Lucha Libre CMLL is on Sundays at 5 for me so early evening. Not I think the announcers are Alfonso Morales and Julio Cesar Rivera. Julio is about 45, he should have 60 talent and 85 backstage. As for CMLL and AAA being rivals and on the same channel, it's not the same as is in the US with exclusive contracts.

I think Lex's situation is different than Shawn Stasiak so I'd say keep Stasiak as a worker. Lex cannot be a worker so it makes sense. I am not sure what the details are for his position so I am not sure what to make him.

Remove Aaron Aguilera, Brittany Savage, Mascara Purpura, Medianoche, Mentallo, Misteriosito, Rocky Romero and TJP from LLUSA.

Has anyone been able to see if El Midgeto, Hypnosis, Kriss Spurles, Liberty Kid, Ricochet and Suicide are real wrestlers or not and if they should be in the game or not? (Perhaps move Spurles into a booking role)

I second moving Stasiak to Medical. It appears like he won't be coming back to wrestling, and I haven't heard of him making any wrestling related appearances in years.

As for Luger, I'd say a verbal staff contract with the WWE as a Road Agent. It's a real toss up for be between placing him as either Road Agent or Medical, but Luger's in no way a doctor. Also the Road Agents look after the backstage aspects of the business, and I think policing the Wellness Policy could be enough to justify Luger's position as Road Agent.

The Sols were the people getting involved in Oriental & Tinieblas Jr. matches previously. Tinieblas was not there, so Oriental took them both on and lost. Mr. Aguila made the save after the match (Invasors sticking together! probably not.) They were able to unmask one of Sol, who turned out to be Tinieblas Jr. Oriental could not believe it. After, it was announced the tag team titles were vacant because they changed hands in a handicap match.

6) Rocky Romero & Súper Nova b PR Flyer & San Juan Kid

sounds like a very good match. In an unrelated skit between matches, Rebecca Reyes turned heel on Mini Halloween, claiming she had actually married him to divorce him and get half of his money (!?!?), but it turned out Mini Halloween had not actually signed the marriage papers and instead filed a restraining order.

7) Jon Rekon & Petey Williams b Jay Lethal & Magno

Lethal was wearing his Macho Man gear, a surprise partner since Romero & Nova had just wrestled. Rekon dropped Magno with a Samoan Drop and Petey picked up the win. Petey got in a shoving fight with a planted fan after the match.

8) RJ Brewer b Psicosis II

presumbably Lizmark’s challenge match for Brewer. Poor Psicosis can’t win a singles match anywhere!

9) Lizmark Jr. b Rocky Romero [MW HEAVY]

Rocky challenged Lizmark to prove he was tough by defending his title. Said to be a good match, Lizmark winning clean.

There were also in ring segments by the announcers (now Kevin Kelly and Stevie Richards – really!) to explain the ongoing stories. It sounds like they’re still doing a lot of backstage/outside vignettes, so things that don’t quite make sense on TV may have been explained in something we haven’t seen yet. Next taping is June 18.

Notes for the game:

Rocky is no longer portraying Azteco, he reverted to his Rocky Romero name so I guess he is an old school face.

Looking at the FCW Alumni page, there are a number of finisher that need to be changed.

Chris Cage (Caylen Croft) should have Croft-Duster as a finisher (not sure what it was.)

Conrad Tanner should have Con-Radical as his finisher (not sure what it was.)

After his dark match on RAW, Drew McIntyre cut a promo bashing the crowd and America and saying he was tired of being overlooked. He now goes by the nickname 'American Nightmare'. Interesting alteration of his gimmick it seems and it could work for him depending on how he uses it. Promo-wise he isn't the best but I feel that with a gimmick like this he probably doesn't need to be gold on the stick. He's good enough in the ring anyhow so it looks like Drew may be reinvigorated. This is from PWR so check their website for proof.
