Tragic. How on earth did four people all fall into it? Horrible.

Just read this, I had to look up what a slurry pit actually was.

Absolutely awful way to die, and I echo Summers - how did this awful event occur? Big shame that three people have lost their lives, especially at young ages.

Perhaps it was a failed attempt to save the first person who fell in? Total conjecture on my part though. But since it's an open pit it seems logical, I mean I've heard of two people falling into buried septic tanks that have given way, but it would be odd for four people to stumble into an open pit. The other thought is that perhaps they were pumping out of the pit and somehow fell in.

Weird that this type of accident doesn't sound like it an isolated incident though since it said another local farmer died in June ago (so I assume they mean last June). I would have assumed that there would be all sort of regulations put in place and people quite fearful of them (sort of like grain silos which my ex refused to let me or her younger sister near).

I'd imagine a slurry tank would contain a lot of Methane too, which is never a nice thing to try and breathe in.

I fell into a slurry pit once as a child. Luckily my sister was there to get me out. Pretty horrible thing to happen
