  1. Are the zombies the slow ones from the original movies or the fast bastards from the remake? Either or, it will be the best movie of the summer for me. Zombie movies > j00.
  2. "Keeping A Clean Kennel" by Agoraphobic Nosebleed If your ass is in this house it's my ass.
  3. Let's revive this old corpse with a good kick. So now, I've really put a lot of strain on my credit card through the Relapse site, and have gotten a bunch of CD's with a wide variety of styles. Seriously, to any fan of grindcore, you should get Agoraphobic Nosebleed's "Altered States of America". I have not heard of a sicker recording in a long, long time. In a similar vein, Bodies In The Gears Of The Apparatus are a solid grindcore outfit, though they are behind in general mayhem and chaos. After hearing a sampler disc, I am currently waiting for two Isis discs (Oceanasia and some other, smaller disc) as well as Neurosis' "The Sun That Never Sets". One band that caught my ear was Subarachnoid Space, whose sample track instantly brought up images of Cowboy Bebop. And any band that does that is (Y) Soilent Green disappointed me at first, since they did not sound anything like the slow, drawn-out heaviness I was expecting. However, "A Deleted Symphony For The Beaten Down" is an excellent metal album and highly recommended. They have a new CD coming out in July, which I am more than looking forwards to. Now that sludge really wasn't what I wanted, do people have any idea of doom metal could be what I am looking for? Basically, slow, drawn-out metal with extra heaviness and absolutely devastating lyrics.
  4. Tomas Haake of Meshuggah is the God of drums, simply put. If there ever was a better marriage between the technicality of Dream Theater's drummer and Napalm Death's Mick Harris, I have yet to hear it.
  5. If the possibility arises, pick up "Scum". Generally, the earlier stuff is more grindcore, which means insane speed, blastbeats and the whole works. Great stuff if you want to see how that genre got off the ground. The later stuff are more mixed up with death metal and hardcore, so they might be easily accessible. Out of the later albums, I'd recommend the "Enemy Of The Music Business".
  6. Ministry's old stuff is awesome, stuff like Bad Blood and Jesus Built My Hotrod. I also like that song they did for the A.I. soundtrack, What About Us?. ←
  7. I have a soft spot for the greatness that is The Flaming Lips in my metal carapace. Also, dance/industrial groups such as early Ministry and Apoptygma Berzerk strike me in some odd way.
  8. I would recommend showing either Akira or Ghost In The Shell as the first thing. Me, my brother and pretty much my entire ring of friends were introduced to anime through Ghost In The Shell, and it should possess enough action as well as "deepness" to really let first-timers on what anime is about.
  9. So. I am planning on ordering a bunch of CD's in the next month or so, and after the experimental load I hauled home last time, I'm gonna center on just plain hard-hitting metal this time. So far, on my list I have the "Best of Malevolent Creation" from Malevolent Creation and the "Past Life Trauma (1985-1992)" from Kreator, both compilation discs from bands I have been meaning to get into for quite a while now. Also on the list is the remastered version of Voivod's "War And Pain", featuring a live disc as a bonus. From there on, I'm planning on moving to newer stuff, with Pig Destroyer's "Terrifyer" and The Red Chord's "Fused Together In Revolving Doors" making the list as well (altough, I admit, I probably wouldn't buy the Chord album if it wasn't for the bonus sampler disc that comes along ) From these five titles onwards, I'm a bit shaky on what I want to get. I've been looking into sludge metal lately, namely Soilent Green and All Out War, and currently I'm thinking of adding "Sewn Mouth Secrets" from Green and "For Those Who Were Crucified" by AOW onto my list. I'm kinda thinking of Cephalic Carnage's new CD that came out just recently, but then again I would be interested in hearing of more sludge bands besides Soilent and AOW. So the question is, are people aware of any worthwhile sludge metal bands? "Sludge metal" being in this case slow, drawn-out form of grindcore/death metal, with guttural vocals and general insanity aplenty.
  10. One Minute Silence broke up too soon, I reckon. The first two albums were fantastico, I havent heard the third one. I should get around to it really. ←

For Meshuggah, probably a combination of the lead singer Jens Kidman and the drummer Tomas Haake. Kidman's efforts in plastering the walls with his own lungs are formidable, and Haake's drumming is just sublime. Without either man, Meshuggah wouldn't be as great as it is today.
