  1. Assuming they haven't stoned all the women for looking the wrong way at a traffic light, and executed all the men that choose to kiss their partners in public, right? FIFA. Rewarding the backwards (Y) And the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are just? The human rights abuses in China and North Korea are just? There is injustice in the world. It's not the first time we have seen this and it won't be the last. As I said, if it can foster positive change, it's worth a shot. It won't solve problems overnight (or at all, if we're realistic). But a lot can happen in 12 years. Let's not judge them just yet.
  2. Who said I'm saying it's purely a football decision? I know it's money. It's money and corruption. England finished four out of four because of corruption. Qatar won 2022 because of money. It's FIFA. I am under no illusions. But I choose to look positively at this. If it fosters any kind of positive change, then I'm in support. If we want to look at this from the losing perspective, then we have to go back to the drawing board and create a bid in the future that can totally obliterate the competition and get the rights as soon as possible.
  3. It's a good job gays don't like football. Israel are a bit shit as well so probably won't qualify anyway. I'm sorry to say that morality can't really cut it in this argument, because homosexuals find persecution in pretty much half of the bidding nations. And Jews get a bit of hate everywhere too. Not to mention China are a bit lax on human rights, yet hosted the Olympics. Germany had this "thing" that happened with a guy called Adolf and still hosted an Olympics in their time. I'm sure if push came to shove, Israel qualifying would force Qatar's hand and they'd accept it. Money talks. So 'it happened before' is a perfectly acceptable excuse in your book, is it? Not at all. But we can be honest here and say that trying to argue morality isn't really going to get anywhere. If it's morality, then Beijing should have never hosted those Olympics. If it's morality, Qatar wouldn't be hosting 2022. Sadly, that is not the case. Besides, whilst they do have issues such as unjustified hatred and persecution of other cultures, if this World Cup can open that up and become a positive force for change, then I'm all for it.

  5. Why does it matter when Qatar had an FA or who they lost to? South Africa had only just got out of apartheid in 1994 and they held a pretty successful tournament. There's nothing to say that Qatar, with 12 years of preparation time, won't be able to hold a successful tournament. I don't really think the fact you can't drink alcohol is going to hurt it too much. Okay, so Budweiser won't be able to advertise. I'm sure Coca-Cola can step up a few extra spots on TV. EDIT: As for Ferdinand and the "Panorama" explanation - yeah, it hurt. But a) it doesn't hurt me to know we lost it because FIFA are ran by corrupt people who get found out and b) our failure to win might also be attributed to factors like the head of our delegation, Triesman, suggesting the Russians and Spanish had bribed refs at the 2010 World Cup. I don't think we gave ourselves much of a chance from the get-go.
  6. Compared to the other bids, it was pretty strong. I think what did kill it was our media telling everyone the FIFA executive were corrupt little bastards. And our arrogance. Apart from that, everything else was in order I honestly think our strongest competitors were Russia. If all this shit in the press hadn't had come out, the countries who seemingly voted against us could have been converted. I think there's a few votes from the Iberian bid that could have gone our way. Oceania too. It really is telling that the rumour mills suggest we went out in the first round. But, I can't say I'm 100% disappointed. It would have been great, sure. It would have done us good to have it. But, Russia gets the chance to grow from this and so does Qatar and, indeed, the entire Middle East. In terms of football, the right choices were made. But there's always that tinge of disappointment that it could have been different.
  7. Well done Russia. I'm sure it's going to be a great tournament. The legacy left will be of great benefit to them.
  8. I highly doubt Ancelotti is going to walk away from this when he had to suffer a similar regime under AC Milan. He should be use to this level of meddling by now.
  9. I find it ridiculous that he goes and criticises Glenn Johnson in the press - and not even in a good way. He asked a bunch of hypothetical questions in relation to Johnson in a manner as if he hadn't even discussed it with Glenn first. Say what you will, but managers need players on their side. Even if it goes against his nature, he needs to bullshit these players and get their confidence up. He needs to be on their side - not being in awe of Alex Ferguson. That got me as well - how can the manager of Liverpool not say something in retaliation against the Sir Alex? I respect him as much as anyone, but if I'm Liverpool manager then I galvanise the troops and tell him to politely go fuck himself with his twat of a son's fist. Why his fist? I'm not entirely sure. All in all, I've been very surprised at how Roy doesn't seem to grasp the situation he's in. He has to fight for Liverpool and his players. Not everyone has this fire born into them like maybe some of Roy's previous players had been.
  10. I say fair play to the guy. Rather than go in and be the fall guy (manager), he's going in and earning a fuckload to totally organize a football club and set in motion his ideas for the future. I think it's fair play to Jurgen and a good move by Toronto. The club needs good structure to complement a good manager.
  11. It has to be said, even if it's personal opinion, but Liverpool excelled with everyone on a good run of form and lots of confidence with their star players in Gerrard, Torres, Reina and to an extent Carragher playing absolutely immense. The rest of the team are capable of playing at a sufficient level, but they all still need to work hard and apply the effort. You can't win if you don't try. What Liverpool have right now are a thread-bare squad up to the challenge of Premiership football who have suffered a collection of injuries and who are terrifyingly low on confidence with a manager who, despite his qualities, hasn't worked out how to get the best out of his team. All it is going to take is a good run of form and they'll be back on track. Here's hoping it's sooner rather than later.
  12. This pisses me off royally and it's something that frustrates me - so much stock is being put on buying this player and that player and then when it comes to wondering why England produces no players, it's "oh, why don't we do any good?". If we learnt anything from Rafa Benitez, it's that a good coach can get the best out of players. Do you think anybody at the bottom of the the football league gets that advantage? To buy a player in when things look bad? No. You work with the players you got to get the best out of them. I'd rather we focus on improving the coaching and management in England than everyone getting their finances in order so that they can buy whichever South American wonderkid makes the front page of World Soccer. The problem we have here though is that Liverpool have such a reputation and heritage that in order to return to that role ASAP, they need to clear out and buy world class quality. Unfortunately, as RockBox said, it's hard to do that when you have to sell to buy if what you're selling isn't at the same level as what you're buying. You can't buy an iPad if you only had a bag of sweets to sell to leverage against it. Much like Newcastle, as much as it hurts to see, falling to the bottom is the only way to solve the problem. I can't blame anybody for wanting the best for their club and no-body wants to see Liverpool go into Administration, have 9-points taken off them and getting dragged into a relegation fight. I have seen my club, Bristol Rovers, have to fight tooth-and-nail on the last day of the season to stay in the Football League. I saw Chester City, a team I lived close to, fall into the hands of an absolute arsehole and die. Only now have those fans found happiness in their Phoenix club, Chester FC. Not saying that will happen to Liverpool, obviously. But what must be accepted is that sometimes it actually helps in the long run for the situation to get worse before it gets better.
  13. As long as the collar isn't too tight, I can take it or leave it really. It's the design I'm looking at more than anything. Although Bristol Rovers have had some terrible kits over the years and I've still worn them. See?
  14. I would rather take an in-form Defoe over an out of form Rooney. Rooney is quality at what he does, but he drifts into the midfield too much which, if he's our main striking threat, nulifies the reason he's on the pitch. And if he has a bad game, it does no-one any good. If 10 men can't play a good game because we try to placate the other 1 person, we aren't going to get anywhere. 11 players needs to perform. Not just Wayne Rooney. And if it means leaving him on the bench for two players who the team can work around better, then so be it.
  15. What is it with Chelsea and their desire to create a football shirt that can also double as a cycling shirt?
  16. They only wait now to decide they don't want in? Are they trying to prove a point or something? Fuck the pair of them and let a younger player get his chance.
  17. I absolutely hate you right now, David James Sadly, a great signing for the bastards
  18. Ashley Cole only has feeling in his penis, which controls roughly 84% of his bodily functions. His feet do their own work.
  19. Adebayor could have ironed his shorts first
  20. Doesn't really matter any more these days. I lived in City territory for a while, as it goes. The lines get blurred every day
  21. No It's about time my accent got some representation. Just remember which side of Bristol he comes from
  22. I hope this is not the case Just kidding. Coppell is going to do good things with City. Unfortunately
