  1. Well, there are sure to be some molten hot takes about OJ over the next few days.
  2. And Holliday's debut winds up a memorable game as the Orioles come back from down 5-0 late to win. Terrible umpiring in this one, just some wildly missed strikes and balls.
  3. The thing about away goals is that they're supposed to create a balance that doesn't need to be created anymore. Clubs tend to play as well or almost as well away as they do at home. And it was inherently flawed because you'll always approach the first leg different than the second leg regardless of whether it's home or away. I do think the tactical nuances of it were very nice but it's hard for me to justify them from a competitive standpoint.
  4. City-Real was a fun exercise in one-upping each other on fantastic goals. Etihad fixture will restore harmony and be a dreadful 0-0 for most until some gross, ugly goal late seals it for the winner.
  5. I thought that maybe they'd hold off a little while longer but it's definitely time. He can't learn anything else in AAA.
  6. Allegri hasn't won a trophy since 2019 which for a top club manager is roughly a century in normal club years. But you are right, they are stuck with him and will just toil away with him as manager until the end of next season.
  7. Newcastle 2-1 Tottenham (Sat 12.30pm, TNT) Brentford 2-0 Sheff Utd (Sat 3pm) Nottm Forest 1-2 Wolves (Sat 3pm) Bournemouth 1-2 Man Utd (Sat 5.30pm, Sky) Arsenal 2-0 Aston Villa (Sun 4.30pm, Sky)
  8. Geraldo Rivera honoring Curb Your Enthusiasm as only he can. This only makes me like Larry more.
  9. That is a guy who probably needed to try his hand in a league somewhere between Portugal and the Premier League before taking any job in England let alone one of the biggest. Maybe it works out, there is Mourinho's precedent it does, but if it doesn't then it'll be bad for Liverpool and terrible for him.
  10. UConn now only trails UCLA and Kentucky in total titles & is tied with UNC. They've won more than Duke despite largely being a minor program until the late 1980s. One piece of rather big college basketball news is that Calipari has left Kentucky for Arkansas. That's the job of jobs for many coaches but with all the money flooding the football schools it'll be interesting to see who makes the jump. I've seen Billy Donovan mentioned, and it wouldn't shock me given that it seems his tenure with the Bulls feels like it's run its course. Great coach though and if he wants to stick around the NBA it shouldn't be hard to find a new job.
  11. The rash of UCL injuries has a lot of reasons and I think all those reasons are valid for some of them. There isn't a fix really, if guys threw more slowly and with more "finesse" it wouldn't matter. Today hitters are at the ball faster and hit it with higher speed off the bat because they're all trained to do so from a young age. Pitchers are playing their game of catch-up and it unfortunately involves pitching in a way that will assure a lot get injured. The human arm isn't going to evolve to where pitchers can be spared from TJ. It's hitting relief pitchers too, it's not some matter of too many innings. You do try to mitigate it by giving pitchers things like sticky stuff back. That will certainly spare some.
  12. Actually I watched the replay again of the really controversial play at the end and that was a moving screen, so hence an illegal pick. ESPN sucked at showing the replay. A bit beyond the "let them play" level.
  13. Picks are the glaring refball call in a sport that is under the most intense microscope for referees dictating outcomes. It's like offensive holding in football in that you can just call it on any play if you really want to. There's always a hold and there's basically always a pick. But importantly the referees were terrible for the entire game. Wasn't just one bad call, it was a game full of them.
  14. He's also entered the transfer portal and LeBron's friend is the head coach at mid-major Duquesne. That's gonna be where he goes unless some NBA team actually thinks he's got a chance (he doesn't).
  15. The Phils City Connect continues the trend of pairing absolutely A+ hats with D- jerseys.
  16. It's not without risk, Diggs is at the WR wall age. Surprising he's fine having a FA year after this.
  17. I read that article and there's a part in there about Ohtani's interpreter saying he met the fan and also that it didn't happen. I think that article is still being edited. The story isn't the weirdest, but the Dodgers threatening to not authenticate the ball is really dirty. Seems like she's basically gone from just excited to have caught it to realizing she got swindled out of $100k.
  18. Dez Bryant, who hasn't played since 2020, won't be coming back.
  19. The Bills are definitely doing the "punt a season, draft and retool the entire roster" move.
  20. I don't know what's hard to believe about London elite Lineker and London elite Metalman holding secret meetings about how they can make life worse for the hard-working, regular folks out there.
  21. Usually it auto merges. It's led to me sounding very scatterbrained, or perhaps moreso than usual, on multiple occasions.
  22. This is going to be a fantastic 48 hours of east coast teams desperately trying to squeeze games in during horrific storms.
  23. Crystal Palace 0-2 Man City (Sat 12.30pm, TNT) Everton 1-1 Burnley (Sat 3pm) Luton 0-1 Bournemouth (Sat 3pm) Brighton 1-2 Arsenal (Sat 5.30pm, Sky) Man Utd 1-3 Liverpool (Sun 3.30pm, Sky)
