  1. But I always play with Passing Assistance on But not legacy defending though. Fuck that.
  2. After beginning to get the hang of semi-pro I experimented with Pro difficulty and, with several top Prem sides, got my dick handed to me by low-end Championship teams. I had to drop down to League 2 opponents in the shape of Barnet and I had to play as Chelsea before I finally won on that level (2-0, though I swear the ball and the posts had magnets in, I hit the woodwork 4 times.)Think I'll be a pussy on semi-pro for a bit longer. Really impressed with the large number of game modes to sink your teeth into. With the sheer number of teams on the game just playing standard leagues and friendlies could make a good game; but with challenges, the weekly scenario and in depth Ultimate Team and Career to boot the potential longevity is really impressive. I'm just using Gameface so I can start a career as a created pro. Its taking time to get my skin-tone right; I look fine on Gameface but in game I look like the son of Sue Barker and David Dickinson whereas actually I'm pretty damn white. I've decided to start my career with Swansea for no real reason whatsoever.
  3. I just know I'm going to get addicted to Ultimate Team. I ended up playing 'just one more match,' for about two and a half hours last night. I did waste 400 points on a bronze back to only get a marginally better goalkeeper and nothing else; I'll just save up for a silver or even a gold back to boost the squad. Quick question RE: contracts. I know how to apply a contract to a player, but how do I check how long a player has left on their contract? Do the starting squad you get even have contracts?
  4. I can't keep a clean sheet for shit. Just played as Barca and managed to concede 3 to Rayo Vallecano, but still won 4-3. That game did include a moment I liked where I used Villa to cut in from the left across the line of the penalty area, shot across the face of goal only for Iniesta to react, stick out a leg and divert the ball into the opposite corner to put me 2-1 up at the time. A bit scrappy for Barca perhaps, but it looked cool. If I have time later I'll start UT or maybe create a pro.
  5. I seem to agree with the general consensus: The episode itself, while not spectacular was good and was much better than the Back to Earth specials; and the older series of Red Dwarf as a whole haven't aged particularly well. There are still the odd episodes that are guaranteed to make me laugh all the way through, but much more of it just doesn't stand up to repeat viewings.
  6. My copy did turn up today! I came back from the cinema to find it waiting for me. I've only played the one match so far, a 3-1 win for Bayern against some random Bundesliga 2 club. nOOb ish questions: Is there a way to disable to move feature from the menu screens? The game seems to want me to move my control pad down everytime I come out of a menu, and I'm just too damn lazy to do that. And is there an in game manual? I've found PDF's online so it isn't much of an issue, but an in-game one would be handy. I've had a quick look for one. And finally, can anyone else not connect to EAS FC at the moment?
  7. I ordered the game (PS3), Amazon have been slow though and I'll get it anytime between tomorrow (being optimistic) and the middle of next week. I will suck, entirely, having not really played a FIFA in about three years, and the demo teaches me that I can't tackle at all, but I'll join in if that's okay. And boy, do I ever feel like the weedy nerd asking the cool kids if he can play too!
  8. Was going to skip this year; it might well have a great Attitude era roster but I wasn't up for the same old gameplay and I barely touched last years. BUT, but fuck me that DLC looks epic. Cesaro, DDP, Tensai and GOLDUST have probably tipped me over the edge. The iQuit matches look well worked too.
  9. That was bloody good and sad, but the ending makes zero sense. The Doctor can't take the TARDIS to New York again. Fine. Doesn't stop him going back and picking Amy and Rory up from any other bloody place, does it? Even if the Angels had zapped Amy and Rory WAY back in time and to a totally different part of the planet, Amy could still have put a message in the afterward of the book telling the Doctor exactly when and where they are. Problem solved. So, to recap: Emotional, dramatic, well acted, nonsense.
  10. So what careers have people been playing? I'll probably start one as coach of the Lions soon; but I'm also start one as a player in the not too distant future. I was thinking of a QB, but you essentially play as QB in every game in Quick-Play and Coach career modes anyway so I might be a wide-receiver or as a cornerback. In an unrelated note, last night I had a near 80 yard kick off return ruled out for holding. The air was blue for a good minute afterwards.
  11. The other night I loaded up Skyrim for the first time in two months with the intention of finally starting a new Nord pure-mage character that I've been banging on about for ages only to decide at the last minute to be an Argonian...something....after a couple of hours gameplay I still have no idea what. But I've decided that he likes flowers. An Argonian florist? I can just skip through the mountains and field picking wild flowers and running the fuck away from bandits? I spent an enchanted evening picking lavender and cabbages; while plucking butterflies and Torchbugs out of the sky.
  12. It depends how you thought that it was ruined. They seem to have a good system until the moment the CPU decides that it wants a goal, and then the ball gets glued to a CPU players foot as he waltzes through your defence.
  13. And my third game was closer to the old FIFA bullshit. Passes going nowhere near where I aimed them, slow and unresponsive players, stupid goal where the CPU's corner comes in right on the head of my unchallenged centre-back. Rather than powering his header out centrally like I told instructed, he plays a tame header diagonally to the CPU's player on the corner of the area. He walks through some challenges and plays a square ball for his mate to tap in from a couple of yards out.
  14. I like this much more than last year, though that could be damming it with faint praise. I was Man City and drew 2-2 with Dortmund. Took the lead. They equalised with a bullshit goal when the CPU decided to move Lescott a step away from Lewandowski so that he was unmarked in the area about five yards out. I missed a penalty, hammered them for period, they took the lead with a scrappy goal and I had to rely on a 90th minute Tevez equaliser. Then won 3-0 on pens. Second game was another goal glut as I used Arsenal to beat Milan 3-2. Went a goal down after 6 minutes after the CPU passed the ball around me from kick off. Equalised on 35 mins when I tackled a defender in the box with Ox leading to an easy tap in. Took the lead three minutes later with a screamer from Gibbs - diagonal from the left corner of the box - about four more yards out, just thought 'fuck it,' and hit it - ball flew into the roof of the goal. They equalised on 55 mins, winger evaded a load of challenges (mixture of me not knowing the tackling properly; thought I hadn't had a huge problem with it until that moment), cut inside and had a pop, shot got parried to Pato, the one Milan player in a box full of Arsenal defenders, and he tapped in. Then I won with a 86th minute Podolski tap in from a Gervinho square pass. Giround has missed a hatful of chances up front, so about five minute before I'd switched Podolski up front, Gervinho on the left, Ox in the middle and brought Walcott onto the right; which obviously worked a treat. Fun. Not killer for me, but fun. If I decide I need a footy game this year it'll most likely be this.
  15. In 'The Impossible Astronaut' near the start, The Doctor and River are synchronising their diaries together (Amy explains to Rory that since both are time travellers their shared experiences don't happen to them in the same order) and one of the events The Doctor mentions is asking if they've been to see Jeff the Fish recently. Later in the episode, River asks a younger version of The Doctor about Jeff the Fish and the younger Doctor has no idea what she's talking about.
  16. I suck on Pro difficulty. Rookie is FAR too easy. The first thing I did on pro was score with a 99 yard kick-off return (as the Patriots vs. Redskins) and thought that I'd be fine. In the rest of that game and the game after I don't think I've managed more than 5 yards at once >_> Ive only got one other touchdown too I keep giving up way too many passing yards; and in spite of this, I'm having a blast. I'm determined to improve. It'd be hard to get much worse.
  17. nOOb question, can't find a quick answer on google. In a match, is there a way to see a full playbook for my team. I know I can press square to call an audible and select a PA pass, Deep Pass, run etc - but not exactly which play I want.... Is there a way of bringing up a bigger, better, all singing, all dancing play menu? And thanks for the passing tips last week guys. I've had a dodgy internet connection so I haven't had much chance to say cheers.
  18. Does anyone know of any good passing tutorials on-line, or have any good tips. I just went 4/13 on easy FFS. Its the one area of my game that's really holding me back. I mean, with only being a fairly new fan of both NFL and a casual fan of video games I'm never going to be amazing; but it is one area of my game that is far behind the rest.
  19. Sci-fi film. Silent Running.... Who am I kidding? It's Star Trek: First Contact and always will be. War film. APOCALYPSE NOW. Romance film. The Apartment. It's total perfection. Zombie film. 28 Days Later. Japanese/Japanese style horror film. Pass Horror film. The Mist. Unless we're couting classic Monster movies, inwhich case, for sheer FUN I'd have to pick Frankenstein meets The Wolfman. And unless we're counting The Wicker Man (ORIGNINAL FFS) as Horror. In which case, that. Unless... Okay, I'll stop. Vampire film. The Christopher Lee Dracula. Original. It has Peter Cushing in it too. Though I have a nagging feeling that I'm missing something obvious. Comedy film. Airplane. Western film. Fuck you. I could name 10 and still feel guilty for not choosing ten more. High Noon. Or The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Or Unforgiven, or Rio Bravo or For A Few Dollars More or Red River. Seriously, would you ask a guy to choose his favourite child? Black comedy film. The remake of Death at a Funeral >_> Brainless action film. Die Hard. But that seems slightly insulting to Die Hard when I could have said, say, Commando. Dramatic film. Not sure. A lot of candidates, no forerunner; so I'll say This is England for now. Caper/Comedy drama film. Kiss, Kiss, Bang Bang
  20. My very brief impressions so far is that they've taken two of the weaker aspects from last year - the running and the presentation - and improved the hell out of them. The presentation in particular is top notch. I still can't pass for shit, but I know that it's me sucking at passing, not the game having a poor passing system. I've only played one match so far, so they really were brief first impressions. Will be getting this next week fo sho.
  21. I love Season Two. The first episode is dull - but it is introducing you to a whole new set of characters and setting up their storylines; but after that it's immense. Frank Sabotka is a wonderful character and I agree that the ending of that season's main storyline is arresting.
  22. I read the first 200 pages and stopped (after loving The Snowman) Not because the book was bad, its just a thing I've had for about six weeks now where I've read the first 50+ pages of a book and then stopped and moved onto something else. I've done that to 5/6 books. I've gotten bored easily. Maybe I'm just waiting for a book to REALLY grab me by the balls, I'm not sure. Either way I thought about taking a break from readinf until my birthday next week, but not having ANYTHING to read on the commute to work is anathema to me, so I've simply taken a break from fiction until then. I'm currently reading Moneyball by Michael Lewis, after really enjoying the movie starring Brad Pitt despite not knowing the first thing about Baseball. Hope this cures my reading wrestlessness.
