    The Ramones

If anything, bands such as The Stooges, MC5, Rocket From The Tombs, Electric Eels, Dictators, and New York Dolls should be considered before Generation-X, but that's neither here no there. The Ramones do deserve credit for punk as we know it, drawing influence from the raw rock and roll those bands were churning out. They may not have been overly political, but they connected with fans in another way, they represented music that embodied the youth. I think the kids that looked up to the Ramones and drew influence from them could connected much better with them than any band spewing out political rhetoric. The Ramones gave them immature themes, and music that was just generally fun, it gave the kids a breath of fresh air from the over exposed stadium rockers of the time. Also, the Ramones were considered "dangerous" but in their own way, not so much as a threat to our way of life, but just their image. When they first broke onto the scene with their torn jeans, leather jackets, and shaggy hair, people genuinely viewed them as a bunch of tough guy street hoodlums not to be fucked with. I don't know if popularizing punk is what the Ramones did exactly, but they did pave the way for scores of other bands, not just in New York but all over the United States. But as it stands, I'd say the Ramones greatest fame came much later than their heyday. They're probably bigger now than ever before. Some people have cited The Ramones as being the first to actually use the word "punk" to describe themselves and their music, but it's not actually true. Richard Hell has been cited himself, but there was also a Detroit band called the Punks around the same time playing Stooges inspired music, though as great as this band was, they are very under the radar. And of course, there was a time period in the 60s where a garage/psychedelic musician coined the phrase "punk" to describe his music. Of course there's also John Holstrom, Legs McNeil, and Ged Dunn that founded "Punk", a fanzine created in 1975. Here's a an excerpt from "Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk" which ties into my first paragraph. The last sentence really illustrates why regular kids could relate to the Ramones music, and why it inspired so many to pick up guitars and get their own thing going. You could say the MC5, Stooges, etc. etc. inspired punk rock itself, but the Ramones actually inspired the "movement".
  2. I'm going to wait for the game informer review when I get my next issue as they are always pretty thorough with their reviews. I think the game will be fine the game play is still pretty good, but this game has probably fallen behind Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, and Kane & Lynch on my priority list.
  3. Alright, now I think we're on the right track. I think Scott McFly got my problem spot on in his initial post (and in your edit, I do have the battery pack in ). Here's what I have to clarify...Battery Pack thingy Now this is going to sound ridiculous, but I didn't even realize that the pack was a battery itself. When I got the X-Box a year back, I figured they meant play and charge as "Hey, you can use this to play to charge your other batteries for your wireless controller." :pinch: Ok, so with this figured then, do I just leave the battery pack and wire thingy plugged into the X-Box while it's on, and then it'll charge itself? I never read directions. I also think I'm going to purchase a few regular controllers, I'm not fussed over being wireless, and even prefer a wired controller to a wireless one. Edit - After further research, I think it's something to do with the battery pack itself. It couldn't be low because it's rarely been unplugged from the console itself, and regular double A batteries work fine with it.
  4. Thanks for the responses thus far, I think I'll just try and charge the boy up if that's the problem. I'll let it sit for awhile and see where that gets me. It's puzzling though, because I don't think I've played my X-Box all that much so I'm shocked if it's out of juice. Basically, I played through the begining of Elder Scrolls for a bit, then the error message of "Please re-connect controller" kept appearing after I had turned the controller back on (after the error messages obviously). I just figured with it being plugged in, charging wouldn't be necessary and thought charging was only required for the battery packs.
  5. Edit - Disregard this, wrong topic, my apologies.
  6. Thanks for your help Dragsy. (Y) I'm just frustrated is all, I didn't pay good money for this sort of nonsense. And thank you Kryptonite, I'll give that a shot and see what happens. I was using both the button on the console, and the button on the remote, got it going for a minute, then nothing again.
  7. Alright, so I've got the plug in adapter so that I don't need to be wireless or use batteries on my controller for the X-Box. For some insanely ludicrous reason the connection continues to be lost and continues impeding my game play with "Please connect controller" errors. Well, does anybody know what the deal is? Is the X-Box defective? I've tried with two controllers, and am about ready to throw this fucking thing out the window, I didn't pay good money for this bullshit. As an aside question, does the PS3 have this crap where the controllers need to be turned on? If not, I might just cash the whole X-Box in and make the switch to PS3. I can't stand having to turn my controller on, it should be able to plug in and that should be that, no questions asked.
  8. I've got to say that Jospeh Addai has been one of my favorite players to watch this season. In fact, I enjoy watching the Colts in general, they're just fun when the offense gets on the field. I like the way Manning directs traffic and moves in the pocket, plus he makes his deep throws look effortless. So uh, go Colts then?
  9. Well, San Diego, Dallas, Giants, and Packers wont be easy games, and Minnesota will be tough because of Adrian Peterson. The NY and Green Bay games are extremely pivotal because of the playoff race. The Giants are a threat to a wildcard spot, and with GB, we're looking to overtake them in the division. I wish those fucks would quit winning. All games are pivotal though in reality.
  10. Uh oh, Denver scored, we ought to put Kitna and KJ back in and answer back with a TD. We have a damn tough schedule ahead of us, very tough as it stands now. But if the defense continues to play this well, we'll have a shot to win every game we're in.
  11. Wow, finally, a good old fashioned blow out. Our defense is just playing lights out today, it's just too bad the offense has had a few problems, otherwise this lead might be even bigger. I still think Martz is too pass happy, but hell, I'm nit picking at this point. I love it, go Lions! Edit - And Shaun Rogers is playing a fantastic game today. He's having a hell of a year really, when the guy is motivated he's absolutely dominant and one of the best DT's in the league. Motivation being the big key. Edit 2- HAHAHAHA, and as I praise Rogers, he picks off the ball and runs it in for a TD!!!! WOOOOOOO GO LIONS!!!! Edit 3 - And another possible TD for the Lions D, but it's under review. Probably will be overturned. I think it's time to get Kitna and KJ out of the game if the offense gets the ball back.
  12. This game does look magnificent, and I will undoubtedly be purchasing not long after it's release. It's nice to see something of a unique concept, and a lot of ground to cover in the game itself. It could finally be the game that keeps me interested, much in the same way Elder Scrolls: Oblivion did when I first purchased it. One question though, other than the nine assassinations, are there other side quests? Because while the game looks immense, only nine assassinations doesn't seem to entail a lot of hours of gaming. Everything about it sounds great, I just hope that the control scheme isn't shitty.

    Boyz II Men

I remember Motownphilly quite a bit, fondly even. I don't like the song, or the band much, but the fond memory comes from the days of my child hood, back in simpler times. And not to hijack the thread...but how about Bel Biv DeVoe? I loved that song "Poison" when I was five/six years old. "That girl is POISONED........".
  14. I'll be honest, the 1990 colored version is fun if you want something utterly ridiculous. It's not even comparable to the quality of the original, but if you want to sit back and have a laugh, it might be worth checking out at a very low price.
  15. The Predator. That's a fucking awesome action flick. Any movie with Carl Weathers, Jesse Ventura, Arnold Schwarzeneger and the Predator ( ) can't possibly be bad. The story isn't deep, but fuck, who needs a deep storyline when you have commandos fighting against an elite alien hunter? The special effects aren't bad either for the time period, and the final battle between Arnie and the Predator is one of my favorite action sequences in any movie. That last sequence is reminiscent of the old story "The Most Dangerous Game", based on the concept of predator and prey. I recommend this for those that want to sit back and watch a good action flick.
  16. Iggy and the Stooges? Fuck yes, I still have faith in you EWB, I really do. And then I get David Bowie as well? This is great, those two make the list very enjoyable for me. So far I get the Stooges, Bowie, and Sabbath. I'll call it a victory up to this point. And Iggy ugly? He's not ugly, he's unique. Edit - And those creepers on the guy in Sum 41 are fucking punk rock. But in fairness, a lot of rock and roll was based on those two subjects.
  17. Bastard! We could have made it happen and got Motorhead on this list. They would given the Top 100 some balls anyway. Oh, and I have to say I'm loving Skummy's remarks toward each list. Easily the highlight of this thread.
  18. The Lions D-Line coach wasn't bothered by Kitna's prank, so I don't think anybody is too worried about it in the Lions den. It's eerily reminiscent of when Scott Mitchell dressed up as Wayne Fontes, using Mickie Mouse Ears (to symbolize we're going to Disney Land, or winning the Super Bowl) and proclaimed himself "the big buck" (as Fontes had done earlier). Anyway, I don't think Kitna's lack of TD passes is relevant right now. He's playing efficient football, winning games, and finding the open target. With the running game getting more attention, it's obvious that his numbers will slow down. Plus, I think our redzone play calling has been atrocious in the last few games, Mike Martz needs to quit getting cute and simplify things down there. Plus, Kitna is doing an admirable job behind an offensive line that is susceptible to getting beat like a drum, though Kitna does hang on to the ball too long at times. I think the real story though is the Detroit defense. They've given up yards, but they continue to find ways to generate turnovers, and have found a real gem in Dewayne White. Griese's four INT's last week were largely due to the pass rush Detroit put on him, with his usually getting hit as he threw the INT's. Right now, it looks like the LB's are the weakest link of the defense despite Ernie Sims playing rock solid on his side of the field. The secondary isn't perfect, but they have a league leading 13 picks on the year. And about that Denver game. I'm a bit nervous, everything seems to be in our favor right now. The worst run defense going against our rushing attack that has found it's legs with Kevin Jones, Denver missing Walker and Henry, being at home, our WR's looking to humiliate Dre Bly (who is awful against big, physical WR's...and I think we might have two of those?), and a young QB having issues in the redzone (where the Lions D has been strongest). It all looks great on paper, but it's the kind of game you don't want to get too excited over.
  19. Isiah Thomas was most definitely a superstar of his era, the man could carry his team on his back when they needed the win. Statistically he looks like a very good player, but his greatness goes further beyond his averages. I look at the game where he severely sprained his ankle against the Lakers and damn near won the game on his own with 26 points. That's 26 points in a quarter. As a player, Thomas was one of the greatest of his era, it's just unfortunate that he has tarnished his reputation beyond his playing days (CBA, New York Knicks, recent lawsuit). And on the subject of Pistons, nice win tonight without Rip Hamilton. Tayshaun Prince went off on the Heat, who were minus Dwayne Wade, and could only muster 81 points in his absence.
  20. Nancy Whiskey is a favorite of mine. Actually, it'd be easier to just recommend bands for you, so go check out the Irish Rovers, Clancy Brothers, The Pogues, The Wolfe Tonnes, the Chieftans, and Dubliners as previously mentioned. Gaelic Storm might be fun to check out, they're a bit more modern and upbeat, a lot of fun.

    The BEST Song

I'd go with Iron Man by Black Sabbath perhaps, or even War Pigs. One of those two, but it's a tough call to make. Definitely give a nod to Motorhead's Ace of Spades.
  22. Hell, I'm with you Krauser. I never would have expected Kitna to be the QB that Lions fans would laud as franchise savior. And I don't want to kid you guys, Kitna still makes me want to pull my hair out. But there is something to be said for a savvy veteran that is surrounded by good coaching and good talent. Plus, as much Kitna pisses me off, I love the guy. He's a fucking warrior, he never gives up, he absolutely believes in our team, and plays as if he is willing to die just to get a first down. How can you not love that in your QB?
  23. Where did the Lions come from? I don't know. It seems this coaching staff is getting through to our guys. We are winning the war in the turnover battle through seven games. Our running game is now finding it's legs, which is helping keep Kitna off of his ass even he still takes too many sacks (O-Line be damned, Kitna holds the ball far too long sometimes). We have four very good WR's. Two superstars, and two guys that are just absolutely reliable and seem to always make the big catch when you need it. The defense gives up a lot of yards, but as I said, they win the turnover battle. Seemingly, the team responds when necessary. They carry out a drive when they need a big score, they stop the opposing offense when we need a big stop, and they come up with turnovers to stifle the opposing team. The special teams hasn't been great, but it hasn't been awful either, the coverage team flashing moments of brilliance at times. I think Stan Kwan is going to develop into a fine special teams coach. Edit - and I see no reason that the Lions can't win two of their next four. Arizona? Should be a win. And Denver's run D hasn't been so good, and KJ is getting going now, I like our chances in all four games really.
  24. We beat the Bucs last week Dragsy, and prior to that, they had not thrown an INT. Don't be bitter. Care or not, Lions are 5-2 and as I said, finding ways to win. That's all that matters, regardless of the quality of our opponents. Edit - and I'd just like to say that I am indifferent to the Pats. Win, lose, or draw. Good for them and all, I'd want my team to "run the score up" as well. So kudos to them for looking simply unstoppable.
  25. I don't know, I saw OLP live and thought they were dire. They were absolutely boring and just didn't rock me out like I have been at most live shows I've seen. I thought "Raine" was just too lame on stage, and lacked any real presence other than his mediocre vocals. They were a reason I wanted to get the hell away from that show immediately. I stand by Inepsy. Fast, fun, rock and roll, and plenty of energy.
