  1. I thought we were going to win for a second. The Lions simply found another way to lose. They played tough, but it was all for nothing. Hello #1 pick, but for the love god, don't take a QB. We need to build our lines, bad.
  2. Yeah, I'd go this route, as winning will give you the unlimited CAW points. The length depends, are you keen on playing GM mode, or do you just want the points? There's a quick way to just win it with no problem. All you do is make it a two player game, book one show, and then don't book any for the rest of the year and you'll win. That's how I did it. It took 20-25 minutes.
  3. My family were talking about him last night, saying how he looks weird due to his age and the plastic surgery. Crazy. Yeah, add me to the strange coincidence of listening/talking about him before I knew. My mom decided to play him last night at my brothers on a whim before any of us had any clue. A real shame that a very important man in music passed on. He seemed like a pretty good, genuine guy from interviews I had seen of him. Seemed like a lot of fun to be around, and very lively. R.I.P. James Brown.
  4. Probably Ride of the Valkyrie, a very epic piece. Or maybe Ass Fucking, Butt Sucking, Cunt Licking, Masturbation by G.G. Allin.
  5. This basically sums up my feelings. I saw the movie ten years ago for the first time and really dug it. Then in recent years it sort of developed an even larger cult following, which was a very cool thing to see. I was glad that a lot of people were starting to get into the movie, and then the game comes out and the popularity begins to sore. Rockstar did a fantastic job with it, and I believe it's their best game to date. It's the best street fighting sort of game since Streets of Rage, and is sort of how I'd like to see a re-make of Streets of Rage modeled after (please god make this happen). My only qualm is that the free roam mode was too linear, and that they should have let roam around the other gangs turf. Still, fucking fantastic. And some of the fighting moves you pull off are just fucking brutal. Wall smashes rule.
  6. A good reference point for yourself liam, is too look at what you're doing yourself on defense. You think to yourself, "ok, it's third and 12, I'll go with the dime and play to protect the pass here". Your players line up and you can recognize "oh ok, so when the opponents line up with something similar to this, they're probably in the dime". It's not exactly a scientific method, but it helps with visuals. And honestly, something I always do in any sports game before my initial usage of it is practice. Practice some defense and offense, familiarize yourself with formations, where the LB's and DB's will be for certain situations. Basically, if you're protecting against the run, it's good to stack the box, but maybe you want to have a linebacker lined near your defensive end and have him rush in from the side going unblocked.
  7. I can't exactly remember formation names, but they are visually explanatory. Let me put it this way, when running the ball, look at the formation, how many wide outs are there? Is there a fullback in on the the play as a leader blocker? Is it a two tight end set with two extra blockers on the line? Pass plays typically have more WR's on the line, more options so to speak. You'll have your 1-3 or 1-4 WR's, all lined up. It depends on your players as well, and the situation at hand. Let's say it's third and one, you're going to want to run and pick a play with a stacked line of scrimmage. I'm talking the two tight end set, with a lead blocker, or no lead blocker is you choose. Of course, if you have a speedy back, you can do a sweep instead and maybe pick up some more yards. Depends on if you're a conservative type of play caller or not. Personally, I like to do some unpredictable shit. Of course, don't be predictable either, it's good to make the formation look like pass, but go with run instead. It keeps the defense honest. Also, I like to make use of audibles. Say you line up and you're looking to pass, but the defense is lined in the nickle or dime formation, I like to audible and go with the run. Typically in the nickle or dime, they are looking to protect the pass, therefore leaving some space in between the tackles. On the flip side, assuming the defense has the box stacked, looking to blitz or stuff the run, I like to audible and go deep to my number one WR, typically he'll be in man to man coverage, and therefore you have a shot at a big play. It's a calculated risk, but can pay big dividends if you complete the pass. If you have any specific questions about a typical situation, I'll be glad to answer anything.
  8. Here's a strange one for NES, it's a side scroller, but you start from the right as opposed to the left. You're in this haunted house with rats, and other strange creatures. Your weapon is a knife and you can climb up a ladder to an upper portion of the house. At random, these big monster looking things appear, sometimes blue or pink looking. I can barely remember the details, but the advertisement for the game had a picture of a guy with a knife in his bloody hand. Good luck with this.
  9. I'm not fussed over any of these folks making the list, some I don't care for though. I love Liam Neeson, Rob Roy is a great film, and absolutely underrated. He's brilliant in his role, and he even makes a ten minute role as Priest Valon in Gangs of New York entertaining. Bill Murray is great, and I was impressed with him even more after learning most of his lines used in movies come directly from him. Caddy Shack and Kingpin are two of the greatest comedies I have ever seen. Steve Buscemi is probably one of the best secondary character actors I have ever seen. He seems to have found a great niche as the second or third leading role, but isn't typically cast as "the guy". I'll also agree with Zero, I love Campbell, but he doesn't deserve such a high ranking, let alone being on the list.
  10. It has nothing to do with "making yourself feel like a gangsta". Music should never have anything to do with making yourself feel like anything, but appreciation for the vocals and music put together. I'd say the majority of gangsta rap fans love the flow of lyrics put together with the beats chosen for songs. Take a song like Dear Momma, by Tupac Shakur, a notorious west coast gangsta rapper. People love the song for the reasons I mentioned above. Great lyrics that go well with the music supplied with it, and it's simply a heartfelt ballad dedicated to a man's mother. Some people enjoy a harder edge in music as opposed to the sugar coated, paint by numbers bullshit. I like music that is real, that comes from the heart, and I think that a lot of gangsta rap is from the heart. These are guys writing lyrics that are based on real life experience. I can imagine why people like rap that feels like it comes straight from a real life experience.
  11. Though I'm a huge Busta Rhymes fan (early Busta), I prefer the West Coast rap. It can be said that I listen to it since I enjoy stuff like Eazy E or NWA, but I think it'd be quite ignorant to even throw me into the "gangsta" or wannabe "gangsta" theme. I'm not even a huge fan of rap but both of your comments just make you come off as a douche bag.
  12. From my experience, they wont sell a game rated M to a kid under the age of M (I forget if it's 17 or 18). I remember being denied GTA 3 when I was just one year short of being allowed to purchase it. It probably depends on the store you go to, but I'd imagine most people could lose their jobs if they sold something with gratuitous violence to a youngster. This is in the US for the record.
  13. I like the trade for Denver. They've basically been spinning their wheels the last couple of years, and adding a piece like Iverson could potentially make them an elite team. They really didn't give much up either for a guy that is a future hall of famer and somehow manages to play at an incredible level well into his 30's. On another note, just to touch base on my own team, I'm really feeling good about the Pistons right now. We have a guy by the name of Jason Maxiell that is going to emerge as a damn good PF. As of now, he's probably our best reserve (sorry McDyess, but the slow start is hurting you) with the energy he brings. He contests every shot, he fights for every rebound, and unlike Ben Wallace (who Maxiell is very similar to, hard working but under sized PF) he is a threat on offense. In fact, he hit the game winning jumper against Seattle in our last win. Unfortunately it fucking took a Rasheed Wallace injury for Flip Saunders to see that this Maxiell guy can play. Honestly Flip, why hasn't this guy been getting significant time since the begining of the year? EH FLIP!?
  14. Damn, they snubbed Roy Williams just as he predicted. He's second in the NFC in recieving yards, but missed out in favor of Anquan Boldin? He should be in there over him due to more yards and the same amount of TD's. It's not as if Boldin is on a marquee team. I can see Holt, Driver, and Smith as all three have more TD's and one has more yards, but Williams should really be in over Boldin.
  15. I think it's good for a viewing, but I wouldn't go out and buy it. The way some people have talked about the movie, you'd think it was an absolute classic. My final verdict was that it was solid, but very overrated due to the way people pimped it out.
  16. Eazy E has always been my favorite rapper, so I'll recommend him, and I'd go with his solo stuff after the NWA era. I always thought his "rhymes and dope ass rhythm" were pretty appealing for a rapper. I'd also go with Busta Rhymes, but grab the album Extinction Level Event (E.L.E.). In terms of rap, I think it's a fucking masterpiece.
  17. Music: Toxic Holocaust, the best thrash metal band I've ever heard. The Pogues, and I've decided Red Roses For Me is their absolute best album. Scared Straight, an obscure hardcore punk band suggested to me. I believe they are under the nardcore umbrella (used for bands from Oxnard, Cali in the 80s). Gun Club, brilliant band with a great sound and great lyrics. Jeffrey Lee Pierce is possibly the greatest front man to ever exist. Movies: I recently watched Rob Roy and loved it. I'm dissapointed in myself for waiting so long on it, it was a great movie. TV: The NFL season. In all honesty, I don't have time for tv any other day than Sunday. Games: WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 07, and a very fun game it is. I also bought Hitman: Bloodmoney but I fucking hate that piece of garbage. Booze: My beer. Seriously, the beer I made, those being stouts and IPA's. The stouts didn't have the desired flavor, but are still pretty good, and the IPA's came out very good. I've got a batch of Scottish styled ale waiting, which has also been my favorite type of beer as of late. As for liquor, it's always going to be Jameson Irish Whiskey or Johnny Walker Red scotch.
  18. The presentation looked pretty nice, but again, that wont tell the tale of how good the game is. The obvious question is the game play, that's the important thing. However, I'm looking beyond that for things like a good season mode. I wonder what sort of season mode will be implemented into the game? How about a CAW feature, can they make it as intricate and diverse as the Smackdown games have? Variety would be nice as well, I'm sure we'd all like to see Ultimate X and an assortment of other crazy TNA matches. How about defending belts in exhibition mode, a simple but pleasing feature. Honestly, I'm more interested in the intagibles that this game will bring to the table.
  19. Pentagram, especially if you like Black Sabbath. They are basically the United States version of Black Sabbath with similar sludgy sounding rock. The lyrical content is similar, and they rock just as hard as Sabbath.
  20. At the risk of nitpicking, the movie is actually 2 Days in the Valley, not 3. Anyway, you guys bringing it up reminded me of somebody I wish I had voted for. Eric fucking Stoltz. He's usually a secondary character, but he plays his roles great. He's excellent in Mask, Pulp Fiction, Rob Roy, and Memphis Belle, plus he's one of Jeff Spicolli's stoner buds in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. I always enjoyed his work. I'm digging this list so far and awaiting to see where Robert Deniro is placed. I'm assuming top ten since he was my number one, and seemed to be quite high for a few others. I also don't agree with Will Ferrell on the list, but it's obvious that he's been featured prominently in many comedies within the last few years. It's easy to see why some folks would have voted for him.
  21. The Lions continue to bat .1000 This report says that he'll be out for the rest of the season. The most recent reports out of Detroit said he'll be out from "six months to a few years", so basically the Lions need to find a running back for 2007. This fucking blows because we really need to focus on our lines. It's a shame, Jones is a fucking good back, but got bitten by the Lions curse. I bet Marinelli and Martz really feel like assholes for releasing Artose Pinner now. The Lions top three running backs end up on injured reserve, while Artose Pinner has proven himself as a very nice back up in Minnesota. I never understood why the Lions released this guy. He was a good second stringer, a very hard nosed north/south runner that could pick up the tough yards. I'm glad he rushed for a career high 125 yards and 3 TD's against the Lions on Sunday. It's poetic justice. By the way, Millen is the cancer of this team, so I have dubbed him Millenoma (like Melanoma..ya get it!?).
  22. I want tomorrow's headline in the Detroit News's sport section to read "LOL!". That's all that needs to be said about the Lions. Forget the "same old Lions" or "another loss" or other typical headlines. LOL is the best way to sum up the team from top to bottom, from coaches to players, from Millen to the ownership. LOL.
  23. So I just (re)discovered an old feature from previous Smackdown games that I always loved. Irish whipping an opponent into another one in the corner. It's so much fun to do in a triple threat, and it can really benefit you as you'll take both guys out pretty easily. Subtle features like this help make video games in general that much more fun. I find that I want to get to work on some caw's I've seen online, but I simply can't get motivated for it. It just feels really tedious to go through the trouble, even though I'd quite like to have them. That's the problem with having an awesome CAW system, it takes a long fucking time to do.
  24. Do yourself a favor and check some of them out. I'm surprised you don't know of the New York Dolls, but give them a shot. They're great trashy glam rock from the mid-70s, a precursor to the 77 style of punk (especially with Johnny Thunders and Jerry Nolan involved). It's not quite like what you'd expect from a glam rocker like Gary Glitter. Television and The Modern Lovers can also be considered proto punkers, but more on the experimental side than trashy rock. Their music is innovative in it's own right, and experimental without the restraint of coming off as pretentious. Television featured Richard Hell before he went on to greater fame with the Voidoids.
  25. Thanks for posting this, I'm really digging these tracks quite a bit. And super group is an understatement, this is a fucking group of musical super heros come to save the world from boring music. Seriously, I've always been a huge Modern Lovers and Television fan, great bands that broke new ground in their respective era. I'm quite familiar with Captain Beefheart and Talking Heads, and enjoy as much as I've heard. I have a deep respect for both of those groups for their musical capabilities. The Bongos I'm not familiar with, but what the hell, they probably have something I'd like if I checked them out As for Johansen, I love the guy. He's one of my all-time favorite vocalists from any era ever. I think he's as charismatic as Mick Jagger, and as great of a showman. Ya know what, fuck it, even better. My old man told me a neat little story about seeing Johansen live after he was through with the Dolls. Apparently the shows was The Clash, The Undertones and Johansen. To make a long story short, Johansen plays before the Clash, and absolutely blows the crowd away. Just an absolute cacophony of passion, energy, rock and roll, all the things that make a show wonderful. The Clash go on stage and begin playing, the crowd just isn't having it. The Clash are getting booed, people are chanting to bring back Johansen, just a bad night for the Clash. Johansen went out there with such a fire that nothing could follow him up. Nice find here Skumfrog, this is one of the best suggestions I've seen on EWB.
