  1. Absolutely good points made. The SEX shop was an interesting subject, as a lot of the idea's for the clothing came fetish and bondage clothing, hence the name SEX. The rubber tops, and bondage pants which are probably most recognizable to some are the obvious, as are the spiked dog collars. But again, as fascinating as some of the clothing became, it also became contrived and ludicrous to look at. You may already have read this, but I think you'd like Johnny Rotten's biography. It's a great read, and really shows him as a very intelligent man coming across as pretty genuine albeit a bit arrogant. His book is probably the best documentation of Sid Vicious and the Sex Pistols that I've ever read. Plus he delves into the fashion aspect of punk, and brings up a lot of similar points you made.
  2. A funny story about that is John Lydon's explanation as to why he actually wore the safety pins. They were simply being worn to "keep his pants together as they would fall off of his ass". He was wearing them basically as a means to keep his clothes hole because his family wasn't exactly wealthy. People see big bad Rotten on stage with the safety pins and begin to emulate the look. I always had more of a fondness for the scenes in California, and the Midwest for the simple fact that the music came before the fashion. In fact, the fashion was limited in most of the area's, though LA had it's share of the wild looking characters. Still, look at most of the concert crowds from those shows and you'll see pretty plain clothed kids, though obviously not clean cut with an occasional mohawk here and there. I think the UK punk in general was more involved with their fashion as opposed to their American counterparts. Even looking at the two regions versions of hardcore, the liberty spikes, chains, leather, biker boots of D-Beat or UK82 style which was pretty non existent in the states (until now, as I elaborated on in my initial post). I think a lot of the people involved in the fashion aspect forget that the music was made as a backlash to the current rock and roll and disco scene. Basically they were reviving old rock and roll, making it raw and fun again, ignoring the current trend of the stadium rockers with the contrived solos and concept albums. They were giving rock and roll it's balls again.
  3. Yeah, I don't have any expansion packs yet, though I hear they released something for the XBox 360 version. If that's the case, I'll have to pick it up, though I ought to get a bit further in my current game. Thanks for the tip by the way, much appreciated. And is it just me, or are Argonian's the most polite group in this game? I haven't run into an Argonian I didn't like, they're just such a swell group of people.
  4. That's awesome, do you guys know where I can find this quest? I'm at level seven or eight right now and haven't found a lot of locations yet. I tend to fast travel a lot, and therefore miss out on a lot of camps, inn's, mines, and caves. By the way, what's everybodys favorite armor/weapons etc? Just out of curiosity. I'm personally a big fan of the shrouded armor as it looks so fucking swank, it goes well with the steel cutlass I do believe, or an enchanted steel bow.
  5. I think a lot of that has to do with them wearing actual girls jeans. I don't know why, but it's become a fad for men to wear women's jeans. Call me old fashioned, but I still wear pants made for men. And honestly, I love punk music, but a lot of the "punkers" in Michigan are full of shit as well. Go to any local punk show and half of them looked like they were dressed by the band Discharge. It seems that leather jackets with studs (and don't get me wrong, I wear the biker jacket, but would never ruin it with studs or back patches), and patches ranging from bands like Crass, Anti-Cimex, Discharge, English Dogs, or some other arbitrary English D-Beat shit. Then they all seem to be trying to out punk each other with their shitty 40 oz's of beer and minimal knowledge of music. IF IT'S NOT PISSED IT'S NOT PUNK. Fuck those cretins, I'll shit all over them. I find that most any subculture encounters these sort of people. You'll have the elitist types that like to go all out with their dress code.
  6. G.G. Allin - Rock and Roll Terrorist Vol.2 For those of you familiar with G.G. Allin, the man needs no introduction. He was the king of extreme rock and roll, leaving nothing sacred or untouched. A lot of people could call G.G. Allin's stage antics a schtick or gimmick, but the man lived as we saw him on stage. He lived for violence, drugs, chaos, defecation, sex, and urination, it was all a part of the real man born under the name "Jesus Christ Allin". This album is a collection of his later work with the Antiseen and various other bands he worked with. It also features some of his demented spoken word performances which are interesting to say the least. The music is great on the album giving the listener a brutal but competent performance from the various bands he worked with. This album also features G.G.'s voice right before it deteriorated beyond coherency, many believing this to be the best vocal work of his career. The songs chosen for the album are mainly from his work with Antiseen, but also feature a few other goodies from a few brief recordings he did prior to the Antiseen album. As expected the songs pull no punches and deliver a good kick in the ass suitable for the rock and roller at heart. Lyrically, this is quit possibly some of G.G.'s most decadent material, especially with the song "Ass Fucking, Butt Sucking, Cunt Licking Masturbation" opening things on this chaotic album. His lyrics, as usual, focus on disgusting lyrics that not even the most degenerate mind could conjure in their wildest dreams. The spoken word is fun for a listen for the hardcore G.G. fans. It's interesting to say the least, following the same formula as his lyrics but without music and spoken as poetic verses. The spoken word tracks lack cohesion, and are absolutely absurd, but do seem to indicate that there was something of an evil genius behind the inane ramblings. The album is a far cry from the pop punk he did with the Jabbers, and is probably best compared to his work with the Scumfucs. It seems to follow a formula of hardcore punk, but only in the spirit of it being fast, loud, and abrasive, as it wouldn't fit the mold of the D.C., Orange County, LA, or NY variety. A brilliant album, but best suited for those that really appreciate G.G. Allin beyond an infatuation with his stage antics. Another thing to note, if you're buying the album for the tracks recorded with Antiseen, you're better off just purchasing the full length album he recorded with them. It features all of the tracks found on the album, plus other songs omitted from this hodge podge of his work. 9/10 Selected Tracks: Fuck the Dead, Sister Sodomy, War in the Head
  7. Don't feel bad Starr, I thought he was referring to Calvin Johnson at first myself. By the way, if the Lions draft anybody other than Joe Thomas, I'll vomit diarrhea out of my nose. I hear we're considering Gaines Adams, but for the love of god, don't draft him. He may turn out good, but I hear he's undersized, and we don't need another potential "situational pass rusher" ala Kalimba "20 Million for 2 sacks a year" Edwards.
  8. All of the boss fights in that game were so awesome. I remember the sense of accomplishment after beating Vulcan Raven, both times. The fight with the ninja (Gray Fox) was awesome as well. I shot at him a few times and he blocked every shot I took which began to irk me. Finally I said, "fuck it, I'm just going to punch your fucking lights out" and proceeded to have a god damn brawl (and figure out how to defeat the bastard). Of course a chaff grenade would enable you to shoot him, but I didn't figure this out until a second play through.
  9. It would potentially give them the upper hand in signing him during the offseason. If he comes to Orlando midway through the season, he may decide that he really enjoys the city, the players, and what the team is building. If the money is right, he may figure "Hey, I like what I'm seeing here, they can offer me good money, and this team seems to be on the rise. I'll take my chances". In a sense, it gives him familiarity with the team before other teams can woo him away in free agency. This is of course all moot.
  10. After an uneventful trade deadline, I found this bit of news interesting. Now, if this trade were on the table then I'd say Orlando made a mistake. I understand they don't want to mortgage their future, but are Darko or Ariza ever going to be great? My guess is that they will never make an impact like a Vince Carter, especially with some of the other talents on the team like Howard, Hill, Nelson, and Arroyo. Besides that, with Hill's contract coming off the books they could have had the cash to re-sign Carter. The Magic could have used the boost with the slump they've been in.
  11. This one is a bit silly but it was great at the time. It was in Warzone for PS1, the first decent wrestling game since Sega Genesis. Anyway, I created a CAW that was a sort of long lost brother of Kane and the Undertaker, and the three of them so happened to be in a match. It was Kane/Brother vs. Taker/Some guy, the fight is on the outside of the ring, the count is getting near ten, and all at once the three "brothers" hop onto the ring apron simultaneously. It was a funny visual as all three men climbed the apron at the same time in the same manner. The best part is that it was recorded on tape, as me and my friend were doing commentary for the game.
  12. It's been awhile, but here's a quick review. Alice Cooper - Easy Action Now for those of you with a passing familiarity with Alice Cooper, this album may not be what you expect. This is a bit different than his critically acclaimed work. This was his second studio album, and technically his third album released to the masses. I've always been a fan of his classic tunes like Billion Dollar Babies, Desperado, and Under My Wheels, but this early stuff blows that all away. This is really Alice Cooper at his finest, a nice little mold of acid rock and garage fused with a Detroit attitude. In fact, I'd say these albums sort of revealed Alice Cooper's darker side even better than albums such as "Killer" or songs like "Welcome to My Nightmare". This is probably an album better reserved for you fans of the psychedelic 60s rock as opposed to straight 70s classic rock. Notable Tracks: Return of the Spiders, Mr. and Misdemeanor, and Refrigerator Heaven 10/10 - Easy grade for Easy Action
  13. I think it's the only movie I've been excited for in the last 6-7 years, maybe other than Gangs of New York and Shaun of the Dead. I'm looking forward to seeing it and will reserve my criticism until I've viewed the film in it's entirety.
  14. To answer the Lions MLB questions, we used Boss Bailey in the middle this year. It was a bad experiment, he's an undersized LB as it is, best suited for the outside. Unfortunately, Bailey really isn't that good, he's quick but tends to overrun plays (a knock on him coming out of college) and just isn't a playmaker. He's going to become depth, although he's technically young enough to make improvements in his game. He just hasn't lived up to the promise of his rookie amidst injuries and shoddy play. As for Lehman, he's another one that played well in his rookie year, but was then plagued by injuries the following two years. He's a bit of a wildcard, but I'm not expecting much out of him. Earl Holmes was out of football last year after his contract with us expired. The hot rumor is that we're looking at London Fletcher, which would have been a good move 5 years ago. We always have this knack of signing known defensive players years after their fucking prime. This is more proof as to why Matt Millen needs a crowbar to pry his head out of his ass and why the Ford's are failures in both business and owning a football team. Mike Williams will probably also be released this season. Think of this, we took this guy with the 10th overall pick, a third WR in a row. This wouldn't be such a bad thing if he had actually seen significant playing time and actually showed promise over the last two years. Even worse is that we passed up Derrick Johnson, Demarcus Ware, Marcus Spears, and Shawn fucking Merriman to draft a guy that we didn't need nor didn't use.
  15. Just in case any of you outside of Detroit gave a shit (and I'm sure you didn't). It's a smart move to keep our best defensive player (yeah, over Shaun Rogers, Redding is a work horse, Rogers is a lazy slob). At the same time, Redding and Rogers together in the middle could be an absolute force, but we'll need to acquire a good MLB to really make the middle mean. Keep in mind that Redding's season really picked up when he was switched to DT, when he has played most of his career in the NFL at DE. And one more tidbit, the Lions have given Dre Bly permission to seek a trade. Hopefully they can get something for him, otherwise he'll end up being a June 1st cut.
  16. Recently I've been taking advantage of the fact that I can play music while playing a game on XBox 360. Nothing rocks more than playing D.R.I.'s Manifest Destiny while slaughtering daedra in an Oblivion Gate. The fast pace of the thrash sound really gets you hyped and makes the game feel like a movie directed by me.
  17. I went with hard rock and alternative, but I had my own rationale for that. I'm obviously a big fan of punk in all it's varities (hardcore, oi, 77 style, proto punk, synth, etc.), and I consider most of it to be hard rock. A lot of it has a harder edge than your average rock and roll band of the same era, and it was an alternative to the rock and roll of the 1970s. The bands I've been digging that would be represented in the above mentioned categories would be Puke (hardcore), Condemned 84 (oi), Dead Boys (77 style), Zolar-X (proto punk), Suicide (synth), and Black Randy and the Metrosquad (etc. ). Those are singular examples for each sub-genre I listed, as there are countless others that could be lumped in with those bands. Those were sort of off the top of my head/what I've been playing a lot lately. Unfortunately there wasn't anything I could pick to represent surf or rockabilly without neglecting my priority in music. Then again, I probably could have converted rock/indie into some contrived explanation on why it got my vote. The word indie scared me away though.
  18. Yeah, it's Chuck Berry. Kids these days...
  19. The Pogues - Bottle of Smoke The Offs - 100 Dollar Limo Geza X - Isotope Soap The Trojans - Maggie Meets Skagill The Tossers - Altercations Billy Childish and the Pop Rivets - Fun in the UK Screamers - Vertigo Reverend Horton Heat - I Can't Surf Nipple Erectors - All the time in the world The Mentors - Free Fix Little Richard - Heebie Jeebies G.G. Allin - I wanna fuck myself Chuck Berry - School Day Gun Club - Preaching the Blues
  20. My national animal is the molotov cocktail, and will simply set fire to all of you. Unfortunately it's population is decreasing because we're destroying their home. Oh well.
  21. I totally agree, and I was actually thinking of making a topic about older games vs. newer games and the difficulty level. I think that the control schemes, saves, and other functions make games of now a bit easier. Games of the older generations were less forgiving with dying. A lot of games, if you died, then you were fucked, game over, re-start. Nowadays you can use trial and error without having to start the game over due to the advent of the save function. There's a lot more ground I could cover on the subject, but that's about all I can think of as of right now.
  22. Maybe I'm the only one, but I really liked Nate Robinson's first dunk. I thought it was pretty damn impressive looking, although I haven't seen a lot of dunk contests in recent years, so I'm not sure if it's a duplicate. By the way, would anybody else pay for a DVD box set of past slam dunk contests? I would.
  23. Any suggestions on other western RPG's? Stuff that isn't turn based. (Y) Another thing I want to add about Oblivion, something TGC might want to know is that you should be careful with autosave. The game autosave any time you enter or exit a building/cave/mine/etc. etc. If you decide to have some fun and go on a killing spree, don't enter/exit any buildings as your game will be saved with unfortunate results. I got myself kicked out of a guild due to attacking a member and stupidly leaving the building. To get back in I had to collect a ludicrous number of items, so I just re-started my game. Plus, I don't like that if you play an older game, it will save over your new game on the autosave. Basically, be smart with where you save. It's a good idea to make an extra save of something yourself in case you have a tendency to destroy shit for fun. I fall under this category and have screwed myself a few times.
  24. I went with Oblivion and am absolutely hooked on it. It's nice to be able to create a character that is of your own choosing, one who can be skilled in specific forms of magic, weapons, or other skills. I used to hate RPG's until I bought Oblivion, and now appreciate them (as long as they are not turn based). As for the third/first person arguement, I prefer third person. First person is best if you're looking while picking things up, or using you're bow and arrow/projectile destruction magic.
  25. No. I don't like the idea of players in the all-star game that represent a non-championship/play-off team dictating the outcome of home court advantage. Letting the best team with the best record reap their reward for being the best in the regular season is the only way it should be. I don't like it in Baseball either.
