  1. Alright, lately I've been itching to find a game that holds my attention for an extended period of time. In the past games such as EWR, Escape Velocity, American McGee's Alice, Civilisation, Max Payne, The Sims, System Shock 1 & 2, the D&D games, and Myth: The Fallen Lords have all achieved this. Lately I've had brief flirtations with Chart Wars 3, GameBiz, Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, Zoo Tychoon 2, and Football Manager - but I'm still not satisfied. Can anyone recommend a good, addictive game for PC (not much of a sports fan) that isn't too high end? My PC is fairly out of date and, until I remedy that, I want something good and addictive to play.
  2. That's not so true this year. New Zealand have been the best team of the tournament so far and they're missing crucial players like Sonny-Bill Williams and Benji Marshall. We're missing... Hindmarsh really is the only guy I'd say we're missing. Maybe Simpson.
  3. Brian Carney playing that bad makes me want to cry. We (Newcastle) just signed him for a year. I don't fancy Great Britain's chances at all this year. New Zealand have improved immensely from last year, and I'd have backed them to win the whole thing if Jones was playing on. Australia will be weaker without Joey, but not by much.
  4. Taking Lives - 6.5/10 Moderately enjoyable thriller. Great performances from Jolie and Hawke. Predictable twist ending. Jolie boob action, always a good thing. The Ring 2 (Japanese) - 7/10 Better than the US remake, but I didn't really like it that much. The whole 'water/spirit dissipation' thing just confused me. Will need to re-watch it after re-watching the Japanese original.
  5. Any Kiwis, Poms, or Aussies following this year's rugby league tri-series? Burning the midnight oil to catch New Zealand vs. Great Britain at the moment, and so far it's been a disappointing game. The New Zealanders are playing all over a very bad looking British side and it's 24-8 at halftime. If Great Britian don't pick up their acts, their series is as good as over. I wonder how an Australia vs. New Zealand final would work in England? I can't imagine it'd draw much of a crowd.
  6. In Good Company - 8.5/10 A well made and mature movie. Combined elements of comedy and sentimentality very well. Topher Grace is just painfully good.
  7. 1. Myth: The Fallen Lords - One of the most underrated real time strategy games of all time. Did away with the boring process of resource collection and just thrust you into a dark world with your limited amount of troops. Still an all-time fave. 2. Monkey Island 2: Absolute cracker of a game, and hilarious to boot. Have yet to play the sequels. 3. Civilisation II: For mine this was the money game in the franchise. More features than the original and less shittiness than the third. 4. Halo: Still one of the all-time greats as far as shooters go. Slick, smart, and a hell of a lot of fun to play. 5. Diablo 2: I always preferred the detail packed sequel to the gritty original, although both are worthy inductions. Played this to death. 6. Planescape Torment: Cannot believe nobody else has nominated this. I'm not usually a fan of D&D games, but this one had such a damn involved storyline you just had to play it to death. 7. Silent Hill II: Looooove the dark, haunting atmosphere. I stayed up nights as a result of this game. 8. Mario Kart 64: Call me crazy, but I still plug in the ol' N64 for a few laps of this game. Great party fare. 9. System Shock 2: Brilliantly combined FPS with strategy and atmosphere to create a truly involving shooter. I actually preferred the original one in terms of storyline, but the sequel has far better gameplay. 10. Max Payne: I just dig it. Heaps of fun.
  8. Got to say Command & Conquer for mine. Never saw the appeal in it. Same goes for Age of Empires.
  9. For me it's Myth: The Fallen Lords. Sure, it got critical praise when it came out, but it never reached the heights it so richly deserved. An infinitely more enjoyable game to play than things like WarCraft and C&C - both of which seem to be near the top of every 'Top 100' list.
  10. I've always been something of an xBox mark, but that's more out of loyalty to Bungie (even if they didn't show Mac users the same loyalty once they money came, heh) than anything. That said, PS2 certainly had a better selection of games. What are these titles they're heading up the release with? I've been out of the console loop for a while, but now I have a job and money!
  11. I'm going to go against the grain here and say I enjoyed X-Men 2 far more than X-Men one. Better villain, better selection of characters, and far less slow.
  12. Overrated Scream: Was just 'meh'. Everyone raves about it but all I saw was another teen horror movie with shit acting Underrated Super Troopers: Still think it's one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Doesn't get the wraps it deserves. The Punisher: Was nowhere near as bad as flops like Daredevil. No idea why it gets absolutely no credit.
  13. Marathon (Original, Durandal, and Infinity) Myth (TFL and Soulblighter, Wolf Age doesn't count) Escape Velocity (Original, Override, and Nova) WarCraft (Original, II, III, and WoW)
  14. Topher Grace is definitely an odd choice. He wouldn't have made a terrible Spiderman, maybe, but anything else seems a stretch. We'll see how it goes, I guess. Does anything come of Peter ruining the planned marriage to the astronaut?
  15. Was Inconceivable perchance based on the Ben Elton novel of the same name?
  16. Jeez, if you're going to name your kid after a comic book character, at least pick one less flagrantly homosexual than Superman. Poor kid.
  17. Serenity - 9 out of 10 One of the best movies I've seen, and I've seen a hell of a lot. Wonderfully scripted, well acted, and with a familiar yet innovative storyline. It certainly isn't an exagerration when reviewers compare it favourably to the original Star Wars films. That said, don't expect it to be Star Wars rehashed. It's a franchise in the making all of its own.
  18. As nerdy as this sounds, I'm really looking forward to Dungeons and Dragons Online. Looks like a game that'll take the best features from WoW and add onto it. My Shadow Priest could heal just fine - but I was far from conventional. Wasn't really built for PvP
  19. Dude, Nightwish are overrated, if anything. Far from underrated. I hear about them everytime I talk to a semi-goth which, admittedly, is my own fault.
  20. Aw, and here I was thinking that delightful Tea Leoni was returning to our airwaves
  21. I thought the title was: Nickelback - All the Same Songs My bad (I don't mind Nickelback, really, but they do have a habit of attaching new lyrics to essentially the same music)
  22. 1. Salma Hayek 2. Shannyn Sossamon 3. Stacey Kiebler 4. Gwen Stefani 5. Alyson Hannigan 6. Drew Barrymore 7. Jessica Alba 8. Rachel Bilson 9. Samaire Armstrong 10. Elisha Cuthbert 1. Julia Stiles 2. Angelina Jolie 3. Eva 'Manface' Mendes 4. Michelle Rodriguez 5. Katie Holmes
  23. Nice work. Not sure why nobody else has bothered to comment, but I definitely like it. Don't 'spose I could commission you?
  24. Was LOTR ineligible or something? Howard Shore's work in that film was far superior to 75% of the films in that list. In fact, looking at the list it looks like it was composed by those 'Things were so much better before the current generation of movie-goers were born' kind of people.
