NBA 2013-2014 Season Thread

Roy Hibbert is by far the Defensive Player of the Year. Leads the league in Defensive rating on the best defensive team in the league. Also, while Stotts is definitely leading the charge, Jeff Hornacek is also in the Coach of the Year discussion. -

I guess if that's the best the Cavs can do it will have to go. Apparently a top 10 protected for the next two years 1st rounder (from Sac) is in there, which could be great in 3 years. I think it will help Cleveland in the short term, but long term there's nothing special about Deng. -

Nope, that goes to Orlando. Which could really set them up well if the Knicks continue to inadvertently tank. Nets don't have theirs either... for the next 10 years. I believe it goes to Denver. The Magic get the worse of either New York's or Denver's pick, which would be Denver's. -

Rumors are that Rose tore the other ACL. If so, that's absolutely devastating. -
I am all for the Geno Smith era.
-
I'd like to see Freeman in Minnesota.
-
Not so random note: LaDainian Tomlinson also sported a 3.6 yards per attempt in his rookie year!
-
I also didn't understand the Ricky Williams comparison. Ricky Williams was pretty good.

Come on, that's ridiculous. Ray Rice, LeSean McCoy, Marshawn Lynch, Matt Forte? These are not scrubs. They are not first-round picks, but it is extremely facile to imply that you either have Adrian Peterson or running back can be filled by Joe Schmo for all it matters. Trent Richardson was picked third overall and if I remember right, he was pretty universally acknowledged to be top five, indicating that people thought he had superstar potential - he might not be there yet, but he's 22. He's had one season - playing with the Browns, I might add - and isn't even close to his physical prime. It seems like suicide to trade a player with that sort of potential for a pick that, at best, will get a player of strong potential who's even further away from attaining that than the guy you just traded. Correct me if any of that is wrong, but I don't think it is and I'm really shocked people are defending that as a deal. I'm not saying running backs are scrubs, I'm saying a good/very good running back often doesn't correlate with a successful team in today's NFL (which is why running back platoons become more common). I'm also not defending the deal (as the rest of the post that was quoted here clearly indicates). I think it's pretty bad. But it would be far worse if Richardson was young QB than a young RB, for example.

I think my biggest misunderstanding is that why wasn't Richardson shopped? I'm sure there are dumb teams out there (my Jets for example) that would have given up something more than what the Browns actually got for Richardson (Jets 1st is worth more than the Colts 1st). The other part I'm okayish with is that, Trent Richardson is a running back. I don't know how much running back really matters unless you are named Adrian Peterson. That being said, I still believe the trade is pretty bad in terms of just value. Giving up on the #3 pick in a draft a year ago after 17 games seems awful for what will most likely be the #16 pick or so this season. Despite comments above, I do think Richardson is the real deal. It isn't as if there is tons of talent surrounding him on that Browns offense to help him out. I fully expect Richardson to look a hell of a lot better with the Colts. I assume the Browns are looking to outsuck the Jags for Bridgewater, and use the Colts pick to move up in case they somehow win some games? I have no idea.

Nothing like trading the #3 overall in the 2012 draft for a mid first round pick at best.

Sorry for the quick double-post, but there is this of course as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyS3weMlxLA I don't know if underrated is the right word, but under appreciated, I think so. I think this gets forgotten because of the movie it was in.

The Pistons are set up to win 40-45 games every year for the next 3 or 4. Unless Andre Drummond blows up. Which he actually might.
-
I like Brandon Jennings and all, but he seems to be the poor man's Allen Iverson. If he's your top scoring guy, you aren't getting past round 1. Unless he develops some consistency.
-
Poor Dirk Nowitzki.
-
Even if Bargnani broke out (which, to him is really just shooting well), he's still a big that can't rebound a lick and would be a starter on the worst defensive players in the league list. He was practically negative value last season.
-
How can any Toronto fan complain that they got picks for a player they were going to amnesty is beyond me. Steve Novak is probably better than him as it is.
-
Dodged a bullet with Dwight to be honest. Lakers would be best off reloading as they did in the mid-90s. They're gonna have a bad year just in time for a super deep draft. Kind of like the year they got Kobe. The Lakers were a 50 win team with a top 4 seed that year. They got Kobe by trading Vlade Divac for him.

Saw that Josh Smith went to Detroit for 4 years, $56 million. I can't say I like the signing. Is Smoove going to play SF? Anything that limits the minutes of Drummond and Monroe is a negative for Detroit.
-
Hawks signed Paul Milsap yesterday, so you can slot him in over Mike Scott.
-
Apparently now he's 50-50 again. I wish this saga would end.

Apparently USA Today has reported that Dwight has chosen the Rockets. Well, I was wrong.
