Bands you like...

I always get confused about the whole "grunge" sound thing. Whenever I look back at bands that were considered Grunge, there are only about 5 or 6 I can ever find, or seem to be documented about.

Nirvana

Soundgarden

Alice In Chains

Stone Temple Pilots

Pearl Jam

Mudhoney

Bush (they sometimes get lumped in, as people thought of them as a Nirvana rip-off)

Other then that (off the top of my head, admittedly), where there that many more bands that used the grunge sound? I know a lot of later heavy rock/nu-metal used the "soft verse/harsh chorus" that Nirvana made famous, but in the early 90's, where there that many grunge bands?

Everything that came out of Seattle (and it's surroundings) is termed Grunge, regardless of sound, so Screaming Trees, Motherlovebone, Tad and I think the Melvins are credited for creating it.

Oh yeah, forgot Screaming Trees and Motherlovebone.

Tad I knew of, but didn't know how big they got really.

And The Melvins I always thought were kinda stoner/sludge rock....meh, who knows...

The Melvins did a kick-ass cover of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" with Leif Garrett. And they have an awesome jam session with the members of Tool, minus Maynard.

I should check out some more songs.
