Scissor Sisters' Take Me Out is also a damn good cover. I haven't heard Biffy Clyro's version, but I can't imagine it being as different as the Scissor Sisters' version

Guest Mr. Potato Head

American Woman - Lenny Kravitz (originally The Guess Who, IMO original is better)

Landslide - Dixie Chicks (Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young originally sang it with a different title...can't stand either version)

Blinded By The Light - Manfred Mann's Earth Band (orginally Bruce Springsteen, might have it backwards, Springsteen's is better)

Come Together - Aerosmith (originally the Beatles, both VERY good)

Give A Little Bit - Goo Goo Dolls (originally Supertramp, the GGD version was my favourite song for a while when it first came out)

It's The End Of The World As We Know It - Great Big Sea (originally REM, GBS' cover makes the original seem sluggish)

Quinn the Eskimo - Grateful Dead (can't think of who originally sang it)

Sudbury Saturday Night - Kim Mitchell (originally sung by Stompin' Tom Connors...only play this if it's a Canadian station or you're in a silly mood)

Summer in the City - Styx (again can't remember the original artist, but both are good)

Summertime Blues - Rush (see above)

And in addition to all that, Paul Anka has a CD where he does stuff like Wonderwall, Eye of the Tiger, Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Any covers done by Van Halen, they are pretty good. Johnny Cash's Hurt is up there, maybe at the top. Also, Guns N' Roses Live and Let Die and Knockin' On Heaven's Door. And one of my personal favorites, Iron Maiden's Cross-Eyed Mary, which is a cover of Jethro Tull.

That's where I got most of my list, but there's a lot of stuff they're missing. A good portion of what isn't on there is some of the most obvious stuff.

Zero, are you looking for covers that have been officially released? or do you count like live stuff?

Prefer officially released, but I've been throwing a lot of live/rare stuff in the list. My boss just told me to find covers, she can work it out from there. As long as you can find a quality version of it - legally of course - then I'm happy.

Megadeth's cover of Paranoid by Black Sabbath (even though the original is, obviously, far superior).

Also, just for a laugh, play Weird Al's version of Complicated (called A Complicated Song, from the Poodle Hat album). For comic relief, or something. It's hilarious :P

Oh, and I heard a great cover by Metallica of a Thin Lizzy song the other day, but strangely I can't for the life of me remember which one. I just remember it being great :shifty:

Whiskey in the Jar is the Metallica/Thin Lizzy song you're thinking of.

I highly considered adding Weird Al's "Bohemian Polka" since it's the only direct cover he's ever done, but the boss would shoot it down.

GoGo, busting out a short list of every good cover song he's got that fits for rock radio (thusly cutting out, say, all of the early Beatles covers). Booyaka.

Me First & The Gimme Gimmes - Rainbow Connection (Kermit the Frog)

Siouxsie and the Banshees - Dear Prudence (The Beatles)

Cibo Matto - About a Girl (Nirvana)

The Jury (members of Nirvana and members of Screaming Trees) - Ain't it a Shame (Leadbelly)

Nirvana - Where Did You Sleep Last Night (Leadbelly)

Nirvana - The Man Who Sold the World (David Bowie)

Stereo Total - Get Down Tonight (KC & The Sunshine Band)

Built to Spill - Linus and Lucy (Vince Guaraldi, but that one's going to be rather hard to find as it's just a live track that's been recorded, I think)

Joey Ramone - What a Wonderful World (Louis Armstrong)

And the entire Stubbs the Zombie soundtrack, which consists of indie groups covering 50s/60s songs. Most notable is Death Cab for Cutie covering "Earth Angel."

Just some more to add to your list, off the top of my head:

Smashing Pumpkins - Isolation (Joy Division)

Deftones - Please Let Me Get What I Want (The Smiths)

Muse - Please Let Me Get What I Want (The Smiths)

Agony Scene - Paint It Black (Rolling Stones)

The Number Twelve Looks like You - My Sharona (.....can't remember)

Death Cab For Cutie - This Charming Man (The Smiths)

The Cure - Love Will Tear Us Apart (Joy Division)

A Perfect Circle - The Nurse Who Loved Me (Failure)

Failure - Enjoy The Silence (Depche Mode)

No Use For A Name - Enjoy The Silence (Depeche Mode)

Finger Eleven - Walking In My Shoes (Depeche Mode)

In Flames - Everything Counts (Depeche Mode)

Mnemic - Wild Boys (Duran Duran)

The Cure - World In My Eyes (Depeche Mode)

Ben Folds - In Between Days (The Cure)

Breaking Benjamin - Aenima (Tool)

Devo - Head Like A Hole (NIN)

Fear Factory - I Will Follow (U2)

I don't protest these to be good, and as you can see they revolve around a lot of the same bands, but some good covers here. Whether they are that popular or noteworthy is arguable though :P

BTW, the POD U2 cover is "Bullet The Blue Sky", and I'd stick Sepultura's cover of the same song on that list, and play is ahead of the POD version, personally.

Oh, and Rhinestone Cowboy is by Glenn Campbell.

A quick search has told me Wayne Cochran wrote Last Kiss, and it seemed to have been originally performed by either Joey Welz or Frank Wilson.

Hell yeah.

Umm..

Metallica's cover of Nick Cave's "Loverman" is pretty good.
