There's always the sea devils...

Also, quite oddly, does anyone remember the Jon Pertwee (I think it was JP anyways) where he battled VAMPIRES?

I would love to see the Silurians and the Sea Devils back, they bring a different angle to the "aliens invading Earth" thing as they're not technically invading, and have a legit justification for wanting the planet back.

How do we know the Master's dead? Being sucked into the Eye of Harmony might have turned him into an all-powerful Time God or something. Now that'd make a great two-parter...

By far the best episode of the series, which isn't really that much of a challenge.

I loved the parody elements to it, the way the episode seemed to have moments that were incredibly similar to Buffy The Vampire Slayer (not just the fact that Giles was in it, but more the pace and the feel of the episode) and the parody of old Dr. Who when the solution to the computer problem was SO incredibly simple that it was brilliant.

Add to that the emotion of the reunion of Sarah-Jane and the Doctor, the emotion of the Doctor when he told Rose that he had to always move on, the emotion of K-9 (I was dreading his return but it was done as best as it could be) and the fact that finally, David Tennant has put in a performence that shows he is truely deserving of the role. Before, all he seemed good at was comedy, but he sucked me in with his absorbing performence during the more emotional scenes.

Unfortunately, the only thing that lets it down, at least to me, was the fact that the bad guys wern't developed as much as they could be. This had all the potential to be a brilliant two part episode, and it probably should have been. Instead the show was about the development of the Doctor as a person, and his relationship to Rose. Did anyone else find it interesting that "Torchwood" had stopped Micky from getting the pictures he was after. Torchwood has been in existence since the Victorian days, and yet they've never had trouble getting what they were after. Is there more to come from Torchwood? I don't see much point of puting it in if it doesn't.

Talking of Micky, I think that something VERY interesting might be about to take place with his character. The actor has been dropping in little hints here and there, and the fact that he felt undermined and that he wanted to travel with Rose and the Doctor as well. Interestign since he was adimently against it in the first place.

Unfortunately, next weeks episode lookes a little crap. Having said that, the trailer for this weeks episode really didn't do the episode justice. The next one NEEDS to be good so that Dr. Who can have a bit of momentum going into the Cybermen episode.

Edit:

How do we know the Master's dead? Being sucked into the Eye of Harmony might have turned him into an all-powerful Time God or something. Now that'd make a great two-parter...

Torchwood has its own spin-off series coming out. The lead character is that Captain Jack guy from the Eccy series.

It's been filmed now, to be screened on BBC3 later this year (either summer or autumn). I think I read somewhere one of the other main characters will be played by that girl from the Victorian Cardiff episode in the last series (the medium lass who was servant to that Undertaker). Pretty sure on that anyway.

Bit of research on Torchwood casting:

A press release from the BBC Press Office announces that actors Burn Gorman and Naoko Mori -- the latter of whom appeared in a role in last year's "Aliens of London" and here reprises the same role -- have been cast alongside John Barrowman and Eve Myles in the brand new BBC Three spinoff series Torchwood. "Burn Gorman has been cast to play Owen Harper, the raw but charming medic of the group. Burn's most recent acting credits include the hugely popular role of Guppy in the BBC ONE award-winning adaptation of Dickens' Bleak House, written by Andrew Davies. Lead writer and Executive producer, Russell T Davies says: 'Burn was just dazzling in last year's Bleak House, and attracted our attention immediately. We beat a path to his door. He's one of the UK's brightest new talents, and I can't believe how lucky we are to get him for Torchwood.' Naoko Mori will play Toshiko Sato – the member of the team who specialises in all things computer, surveillance and technical. She is best known for her role as Saffy's best friend Sarah (aka Titicaca), in the comedy series Absolutely Fabulous. Of Naoko, Russell T Davies says: 'We were lucky enough to work with Naoko in 2004, on the very first day's filming of the new Doctor Who, which introduced the character of Toshiko Sato in the episode Aliens of London. She was absolutely brilliant, and I knew then that I wanted to bring her back.' The British sci-fi crime thriller for adult audiences will follow the adventures of a team of renegade investigators, led by the enigmatic Captain Jack, played by John Barrowman. It will see the investigators use alien technology in a real world to solve crime; both alien and human. The 13-part drama series begins filming in Wales next month and will transmit on BBC THREE and BBC ONE." Also reported at the official Doctor Who website.

Well, I quite enjoyed tonight's episode. Tennant was good throughout, showing a decent range of emotions. Plus, it had a random white horse...

I'd have preferred Mickey and Rose use the TARDIS anyways and accidentally find him....

The fireplace thing was pretty awful to be fair. It woulda been cooler if the Doc HAD to spend a hundred years there before being able to return.

A lot like the Red Dward novels where Lister crash lands on 'Garbage World' and due to Red Dwarf having to voyage through a black hole to get to him, time has passed much quicker for him meaning that although it's only taken them a week to find him, he's now in his 70s so they take him to an alternate reality where time travels backwards, so he lives there and grows younger for 50 years.

Really nice touch.

They only have 45 minutes, so given the pacing of the episode it would've been hard to do much else with it. My problem this week was the pacing rather than the ending, it took a bit too long to get going, although I did enjoy all of the time-hopping and silly jokes about the French aristocracy.

Plus, any excuse to get David Tennant's buff-as-fuck girlfriend into the series is alright by me, although I wish they'd have refrained from another kiss. Not to sound like CSAMH (<_<) but the 'sexed-up' thing irritates me slightly when it's overused, as it's so different to the old series for no good reason. Tennant gets to kiss her every day, he could have refrained from doing it on camera.

Next week looks ACE. I listened to Spare Parts, the story it's based on IIRC, last night, and if it's anywhere near half as good as that it'll be one fucking cool episode.

I enjoyed the show, two goos episodes on the spin! Very emotional at the end which was nice, and a white horse! Always good.

As for the Doctor being trapped thing, I'd have preferred either the Doctor having to wait a few years before Rose and Mickey are able to find him (it didn't need to be that long, but with the TARDIS being out a few years on many occasions, a decade or so would't have been so bad), or just have the doctor simply be wrong about the destroying of one time portal knocking them all out, but that wouldn't have been too great in itself.

Was a good episode though, like I said two good shows on the spin and next week its the Cybermen!

Meh, I'd have liked if he would have had a relay device that brought the TARDIS to him, like Patrick Troughton had back in the day.

He could have made one since he knew the time portal may have been knocked out.

I dont even think it was the best of THIS series. Still was a good show though, don't get me wrong. Trigger was great, the Cybermen were badass....though someone should tell the guy who plays Mickey he can't do a tough-guy. He and the Biker Grove guy should never be allowed to play tough guys again.

Oh, the guy who was Triggers assistant was good too.....
