Without getting into ridiculous sub-genre talk too much, Fall Out Boy once described themselves as "Softcore" (rofl).

I've heard him say that, as he basically said they were hardcore kids doing soft music. I doubt he was saying it in a "look at this new kinda genre" way, more tongue in cheek.

And Coheed And Cambria aren't prog-rock, since prog rock as a standalone is old stuff like Rush and Yes, with bands like Dream Theater holding up thier end for the newer bands doing it. Coheed And Cambria would be progressive emo, as I think Summers mentioned.

And as I stated somewhere else for genres....they make sense if you think of each term seperately and what they mean, as then when they get lumped together it naturally is just a mix of the two. So grindcore, for example, would naturally have elements of grind and elements of hardcore. It is like in films, where a romantic comedy is a romance film with comedy (really obvious example, but meh :P)

I'm a little late coming into this, but if you're going to say that about genres, then you have to include metalcore in there. Metalcore is a loosely basted genre nowadays with bands such as Shadows Fall (who are thrash) and Lamb of God (who are...well, awesome) when they have no right to be grouped together in the same genre. A lot of people are calling what they're doing the New Wave of American Heavy Metal or whatever, which is a gay name for a genre. Yeah, they're leading the "new wave" of bands that are becoming more and more popular (of course not more popular than "emo"). So while you have a point regarding the fact that everybody and their mother seems to be called metalcore, a lot of the hate stems from the fact that most death metal elitists (*cough*Blabbermouth*cough*) don't like the bands to begin with.

Did you quote the right post of mine? I said something to do with what you said in another post, unless you were talking about a different point. And yeah, I'd throw metalcore in with Nu-metal and emo, definitely.
