Favourite Compilation Albums

Just recently I've become more bothered by making mixtape playlists for myself to try and get a nice variance of artists listened to in the short bursts I keep my interests in each one until they next come around.

But anyway, I decided to check out some 'pre-made' ones in some compilation albums and have found I'm really enjoying them. The main two being the Resident Evil 2 OST and The Crow OST.

So, whilst I'm at it, I thought I'd check out your favourite compilation albums or perhaps even get some recomended playlists off of you guys. Give me playlists me'hearties.

I don't really do compilation albums, or soundtracks for that matter.

The only ones I can really recommend are the Pulp Fiction/Reservoir Dogs OST's, and the one for Donnie Darko score one, rather than any that may have been done with songs.

If you feel like checking some metal, the second discs of the Headbangers Ball collections are usually good....more "underground" stuff.

Oh, and The Garden State OST is pretty killer.

I third the Garden State love. Any album with not one but two songs by the Shins is alright in my book. Not mention Coldplay...and Let Go by Frou Frou which is damn addictive.

The greatest soundtrack of all time is Gladiator...closely followed by Lord Of The Rings. But I doubt either are what you're looking for.

Get The "Friday Night Lights" album/soundtrack by Explosions In The Sky, it's uber sexy. Never seen the film.

.......Rock Against Bush? :shifty: It's worth it purely for "Warbrain", it's a fucking classic song. Strung Out, Authority Xero, The Get Up Kids, Strik Anywhere and None More Black are alright, but nothing special.

Rogue's Gallery is the best compilation album I've ever heard, bar none. All original recordings, all fantastic musicians and bands recording fantastic folk songs and sea chanteys. Lou Reed, Jarvis Cocker, Jolie Holland, Antony, Bryan Ferry, Nick Cave...where could you possibly go wrong? Even Ralph motherfuckin' Steadman gets a song on there, for Christ's sake! You don't get much cooler than that.

As for soundtracks, not including original scores, the Crow OST is very good, as has been mentioned, Sid & Nancy is also fantastic, as is Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas, Withnail & I, Broken Flowers and A Life Less Ordinary.

Yeah, I saw that in my local CD shop the other day, looked pretty snazzy.

This is a good idea for a topic, I haven't seen us cover compilations yet.

Anyway, I'll start with the KBD (Killed by Death) compilations. Those are the epitome of punk rock compilations, focusing a lot on the California scene, but also touching base all around the world. There are a ton of these, so many that some are rumored to be phony compilations.

One of my personal favorites is the Murder Punk compilation which is a two volume set detailing the Austrailin punk scene. It's a great little gem for those of you that aren't familiar with Austrailin rock in general.

Probably my favorite of all-time is the I Estimated Your Worth Today compilation. This little beauty is a 64 track compilation featuring the best hardcore bands from Michigan during the 1980s. It's a favorite of mine because it represents my home, and because the music on it is just fucking fantastic.

Some other good ones worth mentioning are 22 Polish Punk Classics, Bloodstains Across Texas, Bloodstains Across California, Flex Your Head, and This Boston Not L.A.

I guess it'd be the Resident Evil 2 and Freddy vs. Jason OST's. They introduced me to a shitload of stuff outside of the Linkin Park/Papa Roach spectrum. I still credit 11th Hour by Lamb Of God as one of my favourite songs, and it can be found on the Freddy vs. Jason OST. Errr...the only other compilation albums I have are the ones I burn myself.
