EWB Top 50 Albums Voting

EDIT: PLEASE NOTICE THE NEW RULES. I HAVE TRIED TO FOLLOW THE GENERAL CONSENSUS, SO HERE GOES NOTHING. THE CHANGES HAVE BEEN BOLDED.

Okay, this has probably been done before, but I think it's an interesting premise, so I'm going to do it. So Without a do:

EWB Top 25 Albums Rules:

  1. Everybody can vote for up to ten albums. Rank this album from 1 to 10, and the points will be as follows:

    1st Place gets 10 points

    2nd Place gets 9 points

    3rd Place gets 8 points

    4th Place gets 7 points

    5th Place gets 6 points

    6th Place gets 5 points

    7th Place gets 4 points

    8th Place gets 3 points

    9th Place gets 2 points

    10th Place gets 1 point

  2. The second time an album appears on the list it garners 2 extra points. The third time it garners 3 extra points, this pattern continues up until the sixth time it appears on a list it garners 5 bonus points. Everytime after this it garners another 5 bonus points. This is an attempt to make it more of a consensus of EWB, then just what people voted into their first place.

  3. You don't have to vote for ten albums, and if you don't I'll just count the ones you count, with their specific rankings. If you vote for over ten albums, I will only count the first ten in your post.

  4. You have NO block Votes. Any block votes casted will be ignored.

  5. You can only put an album on your list once, any repeat albums will only be counted by their first ranking.

  6. You can change your voting right up to the closing date/time which will be edited into this post at a later time, but will be roughly a week and a half away.

  7. It's up to you whether you put your favourite albums of the moment, or your favourite albums of all time. It's up to you guys, you make the list.

  8. Once this is done, I will do the typical thread revealing the results well you guys bitch about what should/shouldn't have made the album. However I won't drag this thread out.

  9. These rules are subject to change at any time. But they will be changed for good reason

THIS PREDICTION THREAD CLOSES: MIDNIGHT GMT 11/04/06

That is all.....And here are my votes, which are likely to change as I see what you guys vote for:

01) Meat Loaf - Bat out Of Hell

02) Metallica - The Black Album

03) Meat Loaf - Dead Ringer

04) Tool - Lateralus

05) The Beatles - Sgt Peppers Lonely Heart's Club Band

06) Nirvana - In Utero

07) System of a Down - System of a Down

08) Jeff Buckley - Grace

09) Metallica - Kill 'Em All

10) System of a Down - Toxicity

Honorable Mentions, that have been knocked off the list for some reason or another:

AC/DC - Let There Be Rock

The Black Dahlia Murder - Unhallowed

Metallica - S&M

Since it's not about objectively picking the greatest albums ever, just personal favourites, I can, with clear concience, use a list of my favourite heavy metal albums:

10. skycladlc4.jpg

Skyclad - A Semblance Of Normality (2004)

The pioneers of folk metal and this is their heaviest album to date. Awesome sounding CD. There's the Skyclad trademark witty lyrics and songs that really surprise you. New vocalist too, Kevin Ridley, who has a clean voice as opposed to Martin Walkyier's raspiness. Parliament Of Fools is my favourite song, but Hybrid Blues and Ten Little Kingdoms are right up there, too.

9. angeldusttz3.jpg

Angel Dust - Enlighten The Darkness (2000)

Thrashy power metal with a nice use of piano and keyboards. "Cross Of Hatred" starts right after "First In Line" and it's among the greatest transitions in heavy metal I've heard. My favourite track is "Let Me Live", the opener.

8. maidenyf6.jpg

Iron Maiden - A Matter Of Life And Death (2006)

Newest entry to the list. I never expected 'Matter' to be this strong of an album. Previously Powerslave was my favourite Maiden album like forever. Favourite song: For The Greater Good Of God

7. queensrychedh1.jpg

Queensrÿche - Operation: Mindcrime (1988)

Progressive metal in the 80's style. There is nothing I don't love about this album. I listen to Mindcrime regularly. For those times when I can't decide what to listen to, Mindcrime is the choice. Geoff Tate sounds incredible here. Favourite track is Breaking The Silence, but seriously, there's only awesomeness found here. Metal fans sleep with this CD.

6. diodh3.jpg

Dio - Holy Diver (1983)

Holy Diver is a great, catchy, fun, solid release. A metal classic in every respect. The title track is one of the greatest anthems in heavy metal.

5. priestvc5.jpg

Judas Priest - Defenders Of The Faith (1984)

Big fan of the Priest and this is the the greatest album they ever recorded, in my opinion. Full of unbelievable riffs that rip your head straight off. And Rob Halford is just insane. My favourite track is Rock Hard Ride Free. The Sentinel is a terrific mini-epic too. And Night Comes Down is my favourite Priest ballad. This was also the first Priest album I heard.

4. icedearthvh3.jpg

Iced Earth - Night Of The Stormrider (1992)

Iced Earth still sounded fresh when Stormrider came out. It's fast, heavy, aggressive and evil. "Travel In Stygian" is among my favourite songs of all time. Wicked.

3. sabbathsk3.jpg

Black Sabbath - Heaven And Hell (1980)

Dio's definitely one of my favourites, as you can see from the fact he is featured twice in my top ten. I don't think Sabbath needs any introduction, but in my opinion it's Dio that really puts them over the top. The title track is the greatest song ever recorded. Ever.

2. savatagexm9.jpg

Savatage - Wake Of Magellan (1998)

Savatage is just about my favourite band of all time and this is my favorite 'Tage disc. It's a tough album to get through in one go, but a very diverse listening experience. Sort of a progressive epic hard rock album with two tied-together stories making the concept. The Hourglass is among the best songs of the 90's.

1. guardianhi7.jpg

Blind Guardian - Imaginations From The Other Side (1995)

Already talked enough about Imaginations in the power metal thread, but all of the songs here are awesome, the title track being my favourite. Also "Bright Eyes", "A Past And Future Secret", "Born In A Mourning Hall" and "Mordred's Song" still get played in concerts.

Honourable mention:

helloweenzu5.jpg

Helloween - Walls Of Jericho (1985)

By no means a top 10 or even a top 20 album, probably not even the best Helloween has put out, because the production lacks and some songs are quite raw, but it's such a fun album, I can't help but always mention it among my favourites. Kai Hansen is the man. Just check out 'Ride The Sky'.

I don't know if I want to use block votes. If someone likes something I don't, good for him. Maybe only if there's albums that I don't think match very well against others in the same genre/style, or are weak compared to the rest of the catalogue from the same band. That Metallica self-titled album probably fills both criteria, but I'll come back to it later if I feel like it.

I'll add mine in tomorrow, but these struggle to work due to the fact that there is just such a variety of stuff people listen to on EWB, you get the top 5 or so which get a few votes, and the rest get 1 or 2 votes, which isn't really showcasing EWB's favourite albums, if you catch my drift.

1)REM - Automatic For The People

2)David Gray - White Ladder

3)In Flames - Clayman

4)Deftones - White Pony

5)Jeff Buckley - Grace

6)Abandoned Pools - Humanistic

7)Faith No More - Angel Dust

8)Ben Folds - Rockin The Suburbs

9)Nirvana - Nevermind

10)Foo Fighters - The Colour And The Shape

A mix of ones I always like, ones that mean a lot to me, and ones I just threw in for good measure.
