12 Angry Men 8/10

It's very good, the performances are very good, and to say it's 12 people shouting at each other in a room for ninety-six minutes it's very engaging.

There is the odd bit of "convenience" but there wouldn't be a film with out them so I can forgive the odd contrived moment, and while the ending is fine it could be a bit better.

But still, it's very enjoyable,

Which bit?

Also, is this the original or the remake?

The original. By convenience, I mean there's a few times when someone will make a point, and one of the other characters should have the perfect, ready-made counter-argument, but they don't make it as it would just end the conversation dead. Also, how every piece of evidence has a a whole in it that no-one sees before, but like I said, if they didn't have such moments then there wouldn't be much of a film so it's forgiveable.

Final Fantasy VII - Advent Children.

Ehh, it was slightly confusing. I mean, I love 'confusing' films, thing is.. this just seemed weird at times. The way the narration told the story didn't always work for me, absolutely beautiful visually, just seemed slightly choppy at times. However, a great effort - especially as these guys made it all with their knowledge from making cutscenes.

Watching Black Hawk Down now - which everyone knows is fuckin' quality.

The Incredible Hulk. Eighty thousandity times better than Ang Lee's Hulk, and it set up the sequel nicely. All the Avengers teasing makes me want the Avengers film to be here already though! :(

Also, the end was great. I can always get behind two scary monsters and super freaks beating the crap out of each other and causing jillions of dollars in property damage. Always.

Max Payne 7/10

Reviews have been harsh, I enjoyed it. Some bits could have been handled better, but I found nothing to really complain about. Mark Wahlberg was good.

Quantum of Solace - 5/10 and that's me being generous

Boring as fuck. Seriously, hats off to the director for taking a movie that breaks out into chase scenes every ten minutes at most for the first 3/4ths of the film and making it completely dull. Needed more political intrigue, more shit like the awesome scene between Bond and Vesper's "boyfriend" at the end, and more Mathis, Jesus Christ, what an utter waste of a great character. And most importantly, needs more James Bond. I'm not talking Pouty McKillsPeopleALot from this movie, I'm talking about the kind of Bond that Daniel Craig portrayed in Casino Royale. Hopefully he's done being annoyingly broody now that he's got all of those Dead Girlfriend issues out of the way.

Synecdoche, New York - 8/10, would be higher upon rewatching but Jesus Christ I am never watching that movie again

Charlie Kaufman you miserable narcissistic morbid bastard. I hate you for making this movie but also I love you for making this movie because it's great, even if it's so painfully depressing.

I've been sick for the past few days, so I caught up the ole' Netflix account....

The Strangers....2/10 Admittingly, I normally don't like these movies so the chances were pretty high I wasn't going to like this one either. It was boring, with WAY to many (supposedely) dramatic pauses. The only reason I kept watching till the end was to see if my hunch was right that the boyfriend was behind the attacks all along. :crying: I was wrong, and thus wasted a good hour of my life. Thanks! Way to make the flu even worse.

Ironman...8/10 I have never read a comic in my life, though found myself enjoying this movie a lot. Downey was awesome, and the movie flowed extremely well. THere wasn't a lot of dead spots (infact I can't remember any off the top of my head), and seemed to keep you entertained without having lots of action.

Harold & Kumar II...7.5/10 I really liked the movie, admittingly not as much as the first, but still very much. The only thing that sucks is they killed off Neil Patrick Harris, which is why HALF the movie is awesome.

You didn't watch it until after the credits, did you?

Quantum of Solace - 9/10

I solidly loved this movie. As the previous review stated, the only qualm I had with this movie was that I thought there were a couple too many chase scenes, or the ones they did have were drug out too entirely long. This is the complete opposite compliant of the first film, which I thought lacked enough action sequences and was too storyline driven. I also didn't think Craig brought his best Bond for this film, though it was probably the way he had to carry the character in the movie, so I'm not going to dig into Craig. Over all, I liked this film a lot and like the first, left wanting to see a sequel.

This is what I've seen this week:

Casino Royale - 8/10

Not so-coincidentally directed by Martin Campbell - who did my favourite Bond film Goldeneye - Casino Royale is quite engrossing for a film that has a long poker sequence in it. Challenge TV should take notes from this film about how to make their late night content exciting. Anyway, Royale isn't as good on the second viewing, but it's still brilliant.

Quantum of Solace - 6/10

The problem with Quantum is that you're expecting a direct continuation from Casino Royale. However, after a while, the big bad guy organisation gets bored and starts fucking shit up in Bolivia instead. Everything is so nondescript and moody that you start wishing Bond was back in campfests like Die Another Day.

Barton Fink - 7/10

It's an excellent film until the final third. Then it gets bored of itself and turns from a film about overcoming creative block to a film about overcoming creative block - with instances of random murder and over-the-top symbolism.

Cast Away - 7/10

Any two and a half hour film starring Tom Hanks will always be awesome, but this felt uneven thanks to the beginning and the end. They should have taken the risk and just set it on the island for the duration. No love story. No filler about some mate's wife dying. No symbolic "I've now been cast away from society itself". I feel bad giving the film a '7' as the majority of the film has no problems, but then again I'm a bastard. Oh well.

EDIT:

Cold Mountain - 8/10

A long, good film about the American Civil War. It starts off slowly, but gets awesome as soon as the desertion storyline and Renée Zellweger are introduced. The only real problem (because I'm a negative person) is the inclusion of Jack White. Seeing him on screen kills any suspension of belief as even an idiot knows he only got the role as he was shagging Zellweger at the time... Not to mention he sings an olde time ditty like a White Stripes song.

Wanted. Five mindless action movies out of five. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't mindblowing. It was perfectly fine, and the only negative thing I can think of is James McAvoy reminds me a lot of Shia LeBeouf in terms of looks. And I hates me some Shia LeBeouf (except for Even Stevens).

Been catching up on season 1 and 2 of Dexter because I saw that I had the files on my computer. And wow, I feel bad that I missed it when it was on the air, but what an amazing show. It really gained momentum late in season 1 with the storyline between the Ice Truck Killer and Dex and the whole development of most everyone on the show is spectacular. And the new characters totally work for the story. Right now, I'm around episode 10 of season 2 where...

Dexter's trapped Doakes in the hidden cabin. I just like that the whole "backing off" thing with Doakes didn't last, because the plot between Doakes and Dexter is brilliant. It's the perfect balance of what the definition of a killer is in Dexter's world versus being an officer.

I'm in the process of watching the stuff I got for my birthday. I finished season 3 of Bones the other night and am currently at episode 2 of season 1. I'm also re-watching season 1 of Dexter for the third time. Almost done with it. I have season 1 of Big Bang Theory in the mail to watch once it gets here. On the movie side of things I have to finish watching the Justice documentary "A Cross The Universe" and this documentary I got on the Waco siege.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall - 9/10

Thought that it wouldn't be as funny as it was the first time. It wasn't, probably because I wasn't in a massive group of lads. But Kristen Bell and Mila Kunis are still just as fit and it's still an awesome film. Remains the only thing Russell Brand has ever been funny in.
