Formation issues aside, it makes me laugh how much criticism McClaren's getting for this result. He finally drops Robinson, after everyone in the country begs him to, and takes a risk on a young, in-form goalkeeper. Carson concedes a sloppy goal, and everyone falls over themselves to criticise McClaren.

The problem with changing to a 4-4-2 is, who do you drop? Barry (who everyone loves) or one of Lampard and Gerrard (both of whom have scored far more than Defoe and Bent at international and domestic level)?

Normally in a game like this my stomach would be in knots, but I've been strangely calm throughout the first half. I think it might be because something inside me accepts that England don't deserve to go to Euro 2008. If they do manage it, it'll be highway robbery.
