Formation issues aside, it makes me laugh how much criticism McClaren's getting for this result. He finally drops Robinson, after everyone in the country begs him to, and takes a risk on a young, in-form goalkeeper. Carson concedes a sloppy goal, and everyone falls over themselves to criticise McClaren.

The problem with changing to a 4-4-2 is, who do you drop? Barry (who everyone loves) or one of Lampard and Gerrard (both of whom have scored far more than Defoe and Bent at international and domestic level)?

And I presume people would've wanted James in goal, with him being the number 2.
