Apparentley no one had heard of this film until there was a trailer shown at Transformers screenings. Is set to be released from the 18th January 2008. No official trailer so the link above is shot from a camera/mobile phone. J.J Abrams is producing.

More information at wikipedia.

I despise the Blair Witch Project and I hate the idea of shooting an entire movie with hand-held cameras. Yet for some reason I'm still anxious about seeing this movie. I'm getting caught up into the marketing ploy.

And I have a feeling this movie will suffer from too much hype. There's no way it'll live up to it, unless it's the greatest movie of the last decade - which this will not be.

I wasn't really sold on the teaser, but with that trailer I'm totally there. Drew Goddard is awesome, and the director's an Abrams veteran so that's cool too. It looks like the sort of disaster/monster movie you don't see anymore.

Figured I'd bump this, because the new trailer came out:

Oh, and 1:25 apparently has a glimpse of the monster. As shown here:

Someone made an animated .gif of that portion of the trailer. Take a look here:

http://www.clubtokyo.org/discuss/viewtopic...2&start=825

Heads up, requires registration (I realize that isn't a huge thing, but it's always been an annoyance of mine.)

When I first noticed the teaser, it piqued my interest. Now that I've learned what the movie is going to be about...I can't say I am too interested anymore, as giant monster movies haven't really been my thing. That said, the parts of the trailer where...

...the Statue of Liberty's head is swatted off and falls onto the street, rolling to a stop...as well as the scene where the helicopter flies over a decapitated Statue...

...are quite cool. Best of luck to JJ in the movie field, but methinks I will be sticking to the Dark Tower comics.

Yeah. Sorry I forgot about the registration.

BUT....if you're a fan of giant monster movies (Godzilla, Gamera and other Japanese monsters especially) or shows like Ultraman, its a good board to join even if you just read and don't post.

*edit: And there's a wrestling discussion thread, amongst other things, in the General Discussion area that are worth looking at.

Want me to see if I can get permission from the original poster to post the .gif here?

I'd imagine, that since the person doesn't own Cloverfield and only made the .gif, that they'd really have no right to complain unless you were directly linking it from their site/claiming you yourself made the .gif.

So I'd suggest saving the .gif to your computer, uploading it on an image hosting site, and then posting it here. That wouldn't be a problem, no.

Well, someone over there made a .flv clip, which is better detailed than the animated .gif, and you can see what looks like its back legs possibly in the clip.

http://s221.photobucket.com/albums/dd299/s...ent=monster.flv

Here's the animated .gif:

cloverfield_creature.gif

Note: part of the picture is cut off - if you see what looks like it could be a scorpion stinger, that's attached to the back of its head, supposedly, and you can't see the lower body. So definitely take a look at the .fly clip.

*edit* One of the viral websites that was found was for a Japanese company called Tagruato. Its been pointed out that "Tagruato" is an anagram of "Tortuga", which is Spanish for "turtle". So I hate to disappoint anyone thinking its going to be Godzilla or Cthulhu, but if you look at the animated .gif and the .flv clip, it does look kind of like it *could* be some kind of turtle monster.

:shifty: ITS GAMERA, BITCH!! :shifty:

IT HAS AN ARSE!

Cool trailer actually, I was hooked. But it seems very messy and such and most of the times it was pretty difficult to catch what was going on. But nonetheless, I was hooked. Also, I was just randomly browsing 4chan here just ten minutes ago and found an awesome picture of that monter thing. But I discounted it, as I had no knowledge of the movie, and now I can't find it again. <_>

Hrm, so somebody apparently did some artwork on the cloverfield monster... looks pretty damn good. Fits too with my theory that there will be smaller monsters wreaking havoc on the city while it attacks, considering how people are running from a perceived threat in the shadows, when they would clearly be able to see the giant monster if it was chasing them.

I'll put it in spoiler tags for those of you not wanting to see the monster yet, if this is actually the character design for it or something.

Norro, that picture has been confirmed as fan art. There are a few other fan art designs out there, as well.

However, I am betting that fan design looks better than what the actual monster will look like. Speculation is that its some kind of turtle monster or at least has some kind of shell on part of its body.
