The BEST Song

Benji

Recommended Posts

It's not a list or a request, it's me asking a serious question, what is the BEST song ever? The one that isn't under rated, the one that GETS the accolades and deservedly so, the song that is complete, different throughout and really makes you listen through every second.

I have three that come close, but I know the order.

3. "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen

2. "Freebird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd

1. "I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)" by Meat Loaf

Guest Onkel Hans

"Rocking in the Free World" by Neil Young...maybe it's the Canadian in me, but it beats out any of your Queen/Beatles/Freebird/Meat Loaf (wtf Benji?)...powerful political message, can be used as a patriotic American song by those who don't listen to the lyrics, great jam song.

Hmmm best songs that are actually pimped out as best songs...

With a personal preference I'd go for the following shortlist:

Firstly, something by The Clash. There's probably four or five it could be but I'd have to say...

"I Fought The Law" JUST over "London Calling".

Also, massively celebrated as perhaps the ultimate pop song is quite rightly "Heart Of Glass" by Blondie.

"Sex Machine" by James Brown.

"Major Tom" by David Bowie.

"You Really Got Me" by The Kinks. (I prefer Lola, Sunny Afternoon and Warterloo Sunset but You Really Got Me is their biggest).

"Are Friends Electric" by Gary Numan.

"When Doves Cry" & "Kiss" by Prince.

"Once in a Lifetime" by Talking Heads.

"My Generation" by The Who.

...And the winner is....

"I Fought The Law" by The Clash.

Best song ever written and performed.

(And yes I know that Sonny Curtis originally wrote it).

Once In A Lifetime is only right when performed by The Exies. It's a load of bollocks when the Talking Heads sing it. Oh well, that's my opinion.

Sort of back on topic, best song ever? Probably something by Alter Bridge :shifty:

...Going with some that's already been mentioned, We Are The Champions and Hey Jude are good un's.

It's one of the following, in my opinion:

- "A Day in the Life" by The Beatles

- "I Want You Back" by the Jackson 5

- "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" by Marvin Gaye

But that's just off the top of my head.
