Good Actors, Crap Roles

Anthony Hopkins takes some apalling acting roles - a surprisingly large percentage in fact.

In an interview I heard I remember him basically saying that he rarely reads roles before he takes them :D

I love Hopkins but I've got to agree that some of his roles have been downright horrid. I say that before I've seen Fracture though. I'm interested in seeing how he does in that movie

Derek Jacobi and Christopher Lee in The Golden Compass. Two of the best British actors of the 20th century, condemned to mugging and hamming it up with awful dialogue and, thanks to the film's castration of the books' core religious overtones, no real clue as to what their characters are meant to be doing. I saw the movie the other day and, although I didn't hate it, seeing those two in it was pretty fucking painful.

Owen Wilson

Ben Stiller

The Royal Tenenbaums really showed how both of these guys are good actors. But when you get them in a movie where they just make asses of themselves, get me a bottle of JD, stat.

Chevy Chase has made some real stinkers. Caddyshack II, Funny Farm, Man of the House....

I fucking love Affleck, I don't care what people say, he's been in some stinkers but he's almost always entertaining in them and is good as both a straight man and has a great delivery of dry wit in comedy films and he can deliver well in serious films too, he doesn't deserve the schtick he gets or anywhere close to it.

I thought Matthew Broderick was good in the movie about Kellogg (which starred Anthony Hopkins amusingly) - "The Road To Wellville". If I'm flicking and it's on I have to sit there and watch to the end cos it's just a good, fun, entertaining romp.

I'm gonna have to add in Matthew Broderick that enjoys doing crap like Deck The Halls, Inspector Gadget, Godzilla...

Name ONE good movie Matthew Broderick has done since "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". Seriously.

Glory, which was very damn good at that and Broderick portrayed his role well.

Other than that... I have no clue.

Absolutely, Glory is fantastic. It's the kind of movie that can erase any stinker he's done in his life. Even if he's been in some real stinkers.

One I'd like to add is Joe Pesci in Gone Fishing and Eight Heads in a Duffel Bag. Those movies might appeal to some, but come on, this is Joe fucking Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino, My Cousin Vinnie Pesci. Hell, he was even pretty good in his role in Home Alone.

I second the love for Affleck ever since I watched him in Armageddon. Chasing Amy was great, Good Will Hunting with him and Damon. Yup, I love Affleck.

This thread was made for Christopher Walken.

Josh Harnett is a good actor, though to be fair I wouldn't say he's done a LOT of crap, he's just done a lot of average.
