You're going to have to explain the REM/Sonic Youth connection. I'm going to ignore the grunge thing because that's too troublesome to get into (though I'm very very very dubious of that. Without REM there would be no Green River?). But anyway.

Say what you want to say, but I stand by my claim that no band more created the 'punk' attitude and lifestyle than the Sex Pistols. Plus they're fucking amazing.

I think Sabbath did something a bit different, they weren't as much of a straight laced rock act like Blue Cheer and Cream. They explored realms in music (in regard to lyrics, sound, and content) that hadn't really been touched on in rock and roll. Their ominous sound only helped to accentuate their ghoulish lyrics. Blue Cheer and Cream were heavy for their time, but Black Sabbath was heavier, scarier, and much more interesting.

And wow, Sex Pistols in the top five? I can dig that, I don't know if I'd personally rank them ahead of other bands instrumental in the influence of punk, but they certainly deserve their share of the credit.

The top 2 was never in doubt, ever. Elvis is the most famous American. The Beatles the most famous Britons. They are the only two music artists who have had their names permanently etched in the history of the world and not just music itself.
