And this is why Baseball is dead to me. When two teams have like, four times the payroll of more than half the league it's just out of control. The smaller teams should just quit now, form their own league, and make a fucking salary cap.

Half? Shit, pretty soon it'll be everyone but the Yankees, Mets, and maybe the Angels.

I think so too. If any of those scraps bust, no huge loss. It's not like they have multi year deals or huge monetary payout. I think Varitek could come back another year or two on the cheap, which wouldn't be too bad.

Burnett will probably be a disaster, at least for a lot of his tenure. It's a race to see who is on the DL more, him or JD Drew. The Yanks have done nothing to their bullpen, and only addressed a couple other spots (ace, 1B). They got those good guys yes, but they still have holes. They prob will improve a little on last year, but things are not all good.

And even the CC signing doesn't justify passing on Johan Santana because they didn't want to give up Hughes or Kennedy, both of whom have self destructed.

He's going to get more then 20 million per. I'll truly be shocked if he doesn't. I don't think anyone wants to take the chance of getting him for less then 20 and then him bailing out on them because it'd be pretty embarrassing for him to sign for less then what the option years in Boston were for. I think he ends up at 2 for 45 somewhere with an option for the 3rd year.

I can't see who is willing to pay that, esp. since there's apparently no market for him.

The Yankees were the only ones to pay Boras style contracts this year, probably in this economy the only ones crazy enough to do it. And if they wanted Manny, they'd have signed him by now.

By all reports the Giants have offered him a contractin that range.

In a hilarious report, the Marlins stadium issue will be resolved today. They need to get 13 of 18 votes to pass (9 of 13 for the city, 4 of 5 for the county). They expect to get the city without much problem, but the county they're facing some serious trouble. Anyway, the hilarity of the situation is that 2 (yes, TWO) people were at city hall today. One with a sign saying "I want to take my kid to a Marlins game in 2013" (stadium set to open in 2012) and one person with a sign saying "NO DEAL." I'm sure the owner & team president were flattered by such a terrific turnout. Less than 100 people showed up to try to save the Orange Bowl stadium, and that has far more history than the Marlins.
