Gaming Pet Peeves

Online achievements suck because even with my limited online gaming experience, the first thing I hear in the lobby before a game is "anyone wanna trade achievements?". They're called achievements for a reason you twats.

And the ones that are ridiculously hard to get are just a waste of time, how can I get the achievement if the thing itself is barely achievable without 11,000 hours of play or I have to beat the game 20 times over with a different character each time on the hardest setting using the weakest weapon or some shit?

I mainly play RPG's and one of the things which always pissed me off is whenever there's something in the game that you could only really have known about by reading a guide. It's getting to the point where you have to have a walkthrough next to you at all time when you play an RPG since "if you open chest X then item Y won't be there later in the game!".

A more controversial one will pet peeve of mine would be the fact that RPG's are moving away from random turn based battles. I think that system works fine, but now they're changing it so that RPG's have become more akin to action adventure games.

Achievements in general annoy me. I don't need some little pop up to tell me I did something cool or amusing or did well.

That's really annoying.

Another thing that bothers me that much is that certain games FORCE you to play through with multiple characters to see all of the boards/endings/etc. I'm pretty sure most of you have never heard of the game but Eternal Poison for the PS2 came out last year and you basically had to beat the game about 6 times to see everything. 3 different starting characters unlocks # 4, # 4 unlocks # 5 blah blah blah. And no, you couldn't just save before the pivotal gamechanging point. You actually had to beat the game multiple times with individual characters and then come back and do a different route to the finish here and there to capture all of the bosses and see all of the good endings. The "end game" sucked donkey meat too, which really left a bad taste in my mouth because you had to work so hard to finally unlock the 5th chapter and it was almost a tack on at the end that required little effort to complete.

These last two don't really annoy me, I just think they're silly. Firstly, the "unbeatable boss battle". The second one being when you first encounter a character in an RPG when you're at level 5 or so and he's 20 times stronger (10+ levels higher) than you are when the computer controls him. He then (reluctantly) joins your party at the same level as you because of some random event that negates the fact he was Jesuslike just 10 minutes earlier

Games where cut scenes cannot be skipped (especially annoying when you've played the game through once before).

Slow in game text that you can't speed up or flick through.

MGS is great cos you can just hammer X for each line or hold down O to skip completely.

Even the old Monkey Island / Indy Jones games had an option where you could press + or - to speed up or slow down the in-game text.

I hate having to watch text scroll up slowly and not be able to move on to the next text until it's all been written.

Madden's got the NFL Head Coach guys working on its Franchise mode, so this will be a thing of the past.

I dunno..I like taking advantage of trading a 3rd and 4th string cornerback and a 3rd round pick for a 1st and 2nd round pick..

But staying on the sports theme..dumb commentary. I threw for 3700 yards, and whats the first thing the commentators say? "This QB has thrown for 2500 yards this season"..no shit..i threw for 2500 yards about 8 games ago.

Madden 09 was terrible with the commentary. Why does it say "This receiver has 60 catches on the season!" during the first game of the season..
