Meant to write this up myself, but forgot. Luckily, upon searching, it has been copied up by someone else. Could have gone in the Unofficial Metal Thread, but fuck it, most of the other lists like this got their own threads.

I think it's a testament to how far I've fallen from the metal scene, to say I only have three of those.

From what I remember of what you like, it doesn't surprise me. You've never been that in to the really heavy stuff, like black, death or grind, so wouldn't expect it from you.

What three do you own?

And yeah, Meanderthal and Here Comes The Waterworks are really great albums both. Alot of stuff on that list that I don't have, that I really want. Anata, Electric Wizard, Nile, Napalm Death, Tool, Behemoth and few others; I have other albums of theirs, just not the ones on the list. <_<

I think Death Magnetic should be way higher and even though I absolutely LOVE seeing Clutch get must deserved recognition for being as awesome as they are...I gotta say I think Blast Tyrant should be in the 9 spot instead of Pure Rock Fury.

I love both albums but to me Blast Tyrant is the best thing Clutch has done since Elephant Riders.

Really only one or two choices there I would personally disagree with outright ("Monotheist" that high? Ephel Duath on the list at all?) but after that it's mostly about what I'd expect. Glad to see Terrorizer still lines up somewhat nicely to my musical tastes, some very positive surprises on the list there (Insect Warfare and Funeral Mist, mainly). Would have added more sludge/post-metal stuff like Cult Of Luna's "Eternal Kingdom" or Pelican's "Australasia".

'Monotheist' I think gets that high due to the nature of it more than anything. Big return album, by massive cult act, and it was really good. As for Ephel Duath, I think that more goes in there due to it being fairly unique for the times, as well as a good album (well, I like it at least :P).

No Dream Theater?

No Megadeth?

Only one Mastodon album?

Death Magnetic getting on this list?

Nice try Terrorizer, this list should introduce me to another 20 albums... but it just reeks of metal elitism.

Each band only has one album on the list.

Circumstances probably get Metallica on the list as much as anything else. It was the big comeback, and arguably what St Anger should have been.

As for Dream Theater, and to a lesser extent Megadeth, neither have had really OMG wow albums out. DT's best stuff was in the 90's, Megadeth the 80's.

Why would a magazine that reeks of metal elitism have Metallica so high?

EDIT: Bushy is right though, the ommitance of any Cult Of Luna is a bit of a letdown.

24, or thereabouts. Which is probably the most I've owned out of any of these Top 100 lists posted so far - which is a little odd, as I don't consider myself a metal fan first and foremost. That said, there's an awful lot on that list I've never listened to - I've not heard a single note of Death Magnetic - and a lot of stuff I have heard and really didn't like. Even out of the stuff I own, I'm not too convinced - I was disappointed by High On Fire, and I think Melvins, SunnO))), Lightning Bolt and Motorhead all had better albums over the course of the decade.

Still, Terrorizer tends to be more in line with what I like in metal than most magazines do, and it's always nice to see Southern Lord and Ipecac getting their due - they're two of a dwindling number of record labels that automatically lend credibility to a band, in my eyes.

And Dream Theater should never be on a Top 100 anything.

9. Clutch – Pure Rock Fury (Atlantic, 2001)

14. Mastodon – Leviathan (Relapse, 2004)

21. Isis – Oceanic (Ipecac, 2002)

33. High On Fire – Death Is Communion (Relapse, 2007)

93. Porcupine Tree – Deadwing (Lava, 2005)

96. Boris – Pink (Caroline, 2005)

So I have 12 of them, which is kinda sad considering I used to be huge into metal but I do have a few more from some of the bands on the list, just not the albums they listed.

And yeah, some of the album choices for the bands seemed a bit odd to me.

The lack of Baroness disappoints me greatly though. "Red Album" is fantastic.
