But...to this date, no one has been suspended without an arrest on their record.

To date no one else has nearly killed himself riding without a helmet or has had two women allege he's assaulted/raped them. He's done all of that in the span of 4 off seasons. He's brought shame to the shield, so Goodell's going to have to sit him.

I really don't think there's a need to bring up his motorcycle accident. He wasn't at fault and it's not against the law to not wear a helmet in PA. Was it a dumb move? In hindsight, yeah. But what 23-24 year-old guys don't do stupid shit?

This is true. I'm just saying that its within the stated guidelines to do so.

Right, I understand. And you're absolutely right, I was just pointing out that this would set a new precedent.

That "23-24 year old" argument is completely ridiculous. Most 23-24 year old Men aren't the face of a major company. Most 23-24 year old men aren't responsible for a large chunk of the business their company does that year. When you go in to make the bucks in sports you take on the extra responsibility. Their is a code of conduct clause in all sports contracts.

As for the Rams, what happened to the guy from LA trying to buy them and move them back here. No offense to St. Louis, but the Rams belong in LA. I'd actually care about them, then.

yeah because the chargers, raiders and 49ers aren't enough for California. Florida doesn't need 3 teams either. for fucks sake spread the teams out so more people can have a home team instead of just a couple states.

You want a team? Move out of Bumfuck, Egypt. The Rams belong in Los Angeles, and California can support four teams.

The teams would be spread out if more cities could support them. The simple fact is, they can't. Life isn't fair, and neither is business.

It's only been the last couple of years that the Rams' attendance has dipped to around 90%. St. Louis can support a team just fine, unfortunately the fans there would rather go watch the Cards play baseball if the Rams are going to suck.

EDIT: Oh, and here ya go, DMN, Kirky M.'s staying:

I have nothing against St. Louis, and the deserve a team.

My thing is that the Rams were the first major professional sports team on the west coast (1941-42). They belong in LA, and the only reason they moved is because their owner died, and his wife was a stupid bitch. If they had respected Caroll(?) Rosenblum's wishes, the team would have never left.

That's why I've always had an issue with the Rams leaving, and never with the Raiders. The Raiders didn't belong here, they belonged in Oakland. The Rams belonged in LA.

I like the trade a lot and when he it was reported he was on the block, I hoped the 49ers would make a move for him. We got him on the cheap and he fills one of the biggest needs we had (return specialist) but he'll also help our offense out by being able to create mismatches with his speed (and a speedy WR in the slot was also one of our needs). He's had some concentration problems with drops and everything but he won't be targeted nearly enough for it to matter a whole lot, since I doubt he reaches more than #3 on the depth chart.

Despite what he's done, trading Big Ben would be really stupid. Franchise quarterbacks don't grow on trees and thought he's an immature douche the guy can go, nobody can deny that. If I were St.Louis and they offered me Roethliberger, the 18th pick and perhaps a lower round pick for the 1st overall pick, I'd snap their hand off. I doubt they'd get many more takers for him, Arizona, Minnesotta, Oakland and Buffalo are options though

Pittsburgh is one of the few teams that puts image before production. Regardless of the punishment Roethlisberger gets in the near future he's already on (at least) his second strike with The Commish. If they can flip him for something of value, I think they'd gladly muddle their way through this coming season than be stuck with all the "what ifs" that come with him and his contract. I'm sure that he's losing some of the guys in the locker room at this point, and when your QB is divisive it's not good for the team.

Steelers are looking into possibly trading Big Ben. If they can get a good offer.

No they aren't.

That report is coming from the same guy who reported the Steelers were going to cut Casey Hampton this off-season.

Steelers #1 beat reporter Ed Bouchette accidentally started that rumor when he said that if the Steelers WANTED to trade Ben he thought the Rams would be willing to trade 2 first round picks for him.

Since then he has debunked that report.

He's on his second strike? Are you sure?

What was #1? The ridiculously frivolous civil suit where the woman bragged about having sex with Ben and hoping she would become pregnant with his baby?

Until I hear from Goodell himself that this was "strike 2" I'm going to assume that Roger, like the Steelers, is viewing this as Ben's first strike. Anything else would be unfair.

For your reading pleasure...

The Media Lynching Of Ben Roethlisberger

The media is lynching Roethlisberger. The reporting isn't factual; it's an ideological and contrived version of events. People are printing the stuff that supports their bias or that has shock value. I've seen reports that the girl was dragged into the room by the "bodyguard." I've seen reports that she tried to exit the building because he had exposed himself, but she ended up accidentally going into the bathroom. I've seen all sorts of irresponsible claims: "victim told him 'no.'" And that, "she immediately reported it." What is the goal -- to lynch Roethlisberger?

If the Niners can get a QB, that offense'll be scary good. Here's hoping they continue to believe in Alex Smith and that, if he falls to them, they skip on Clausen.

Or, actually, let's hope they're the ones stupid enough to draft McCoy or Tebow in the first two rounds. Yeah, let's hope that's what happens.

Like Naiwf has mentioned....Steelers and the Rooney family do pride themselves on integrity. Just look at their coaching history. They let go of Plaxico at the first sign of trouble. Big Ben has become a problem for the team. First the motorcycle incident and now this. The Steelers already came out and said that he will face disciplinary action.

Surely, a franchise QB is worth just a tad bit more than a WR?

Unless Ben's ever formally charged, I wouldn't pay too much attention to all of these trade rumors. And at that point, he'll become untouchable, anyways. Basically, Ben's not going anywhere. To think otherwise is just foolish fantasy.

If you seriously think the Steelers wouldn't get rid of Big Ben you haven't paid attention to the way the Rooney family does business at all. Their statement this week spoke volumes. They could have left it up to Goodell but they specially came out and said that he's going to have to face the consequences. A "franchise quarterback" who's missing for the first 4 games isn't a "franchise QB" anymore. That is a lot of time for a QB to miss and step back in.
