Original Blue Ranger Out Of The Closet

Actor David Yost -- who played the B.R. from 1993 to 1996 -- just gave an interview to "No Pink Spandex" -- and explained, "I was called 'f*ggot' one too many times [by the show's] creators, producers, writers, directors."

Yost added, "I know that my co-stars were called in a couple of times to different producers' offices and questioned about my sexuality, which is kind of a humiliating experience to find that out."

Yost claims it got so bad on the show that he became "worried that I might take my own life."

Instead, Yost took a break from Hollywood ... and only recently decided to start acting again.

Calls to Saban Entertainment -- which produced Power Rangers -- have not been returned.

I must say I'm shocked not so much by the guy been gay but how they treated him especially as back then a lot of Power Rangers stories evolved around everybody been equal.

Interesting. I've heard rumors that the original Black Ranger was gay, but nothing about the blue one. Go figure.

Also, I remember reading somewhere that the reason he quit Power Rangers was because he was starting to lose his hair. Guessing that was just another reason or an excuse to hide the truth. But under the circumstances, I can see why he quit.

Wow it must have been really bad for him to want to die. Now thinking about it all I want to do is watch some old Power Ranger episodes/movies. I used to watch that religiously when I was a kid. I outgrew watching men and women fighting in costumes to save the world.......I watch men and women wrestle in trunks and tights to win belts now....:shifty:.

I never really though of it before but it doesn't shock me. I'm a big MMPR fan, even till this day.At lest it wasn't the other actors calling him names so my picture of them as upstanding people can stay in tact, lol

Yost was the longest serving orignal cast member too. Maybe the problems that saw him getting a lesser role in Zeo and eventually written out of the show were somehow related to this.

That's what I'm thinking.

I remember when they did that thing that prevented Billy from becoming the Gold Ranger, then bringing in Jason to be the Gold Ranger. The actor that played Jason was awful.

Sadly, I have no idea what any of the original Power Rangers actors still alive are up to. (The actress who played the original Yellow Ranger died in a car accident after doing the second Crow movie) Last time I heard anything about Jason David Frank, he was heavily tattooed and doing MMA, but I have no idea how that's turned out.

He won his MMA debut earlier this month. Elsewhere Austin St. John/The Red Ranger is a paramedic, Walter Emmanuel Jones/The Black Ranger had a recurring role on the first season of The Shield and has done nothing really worth talking about since, and of the original Power Rangers, Amy Jo Johnson is the one who has actually found success as an actress, having been on Felicity for four years and now she's on a Canadian TV show for which she's won a Gemini Award.

Jason wasn't bad, he just was a John Cena to the rangers which looking back for a kid's show is acceptable.

The only one who broke out from the role was Amy Jo Johnston who was Kimberly Hart the Pink Ranger who did Susie Q, Felicity and now Flashpoint as a sniper on a swat team. I kid you not.

I know two of the later ranger members both did MTV Undressed which was a kind of porn soap opera that MTV did early in the 2000's and I think Jason David Frank was also in it too.

Black Ranger's biggest success was being in Brink!

And also Space Cases.

God, I remember that weird show and forgot the Black Ranger was on it.

Basically I think it's between Amy Jo Johnson and Johnny Yong Bosch (who has become one of the bigger names in voice acting stateside, especially as far as anime goes) for Most Successful Power Ranger.
