Bolton defender Tyrone Mears breaks leg

Bolton defender Tyrone Mears has been taken to hospital after breaking his leg in training on Thursday.

"Ty went in for a challenge and unfortunately suffered the injury," Trotters manager Owen Coyle said of Mears, who signed from Burnley in July.

"It was desperately unlucky for him and we will make sure he is fully supported in his rehabilitation."

Mears, 28, joins midfielder Lee Chung-yong on the sidelines after he also suffered a broken leg, on Saturday.

The South Korea player was ruled out for nine months after sustaining the injury during the pre-season friendly win at Newport County.

Another long-term Bolton injury victim, United States midfielder Stuart Holden, is still recovering from the anterior cruciate ligament damage he suffered in March.

Mears was set to take up the right-back slot for Wanderers but now it appears that either Gretar Steinsson or Sam Ricketts will have to fill in for him.

Coyle added: "He will go for a check and an assessment in a month and that will indicate more accurately the timescale for his recovery."

Seems to be a curse of serious leg injuries at Bolton at the moment.

Was at the Scholes game earlier. Honestly one of the highlights of the season and the season's not even started properly for United yet. Scholesy thunderbolt + Tom Cleverley + Danny Welbeck + Paul Pogba = drooooooool. Tell you what, listening to Adrian Durham troll to high heaven on TalkSport doesn't half get you motivated for watching the great man's last game.

Now, let's get Arron Scholes signed up, there's a need for a new Ginger Prince. Joe van der Sar to smash the ball up to him.

EDIT: Actually this should probably in General Football, shouldn't it? I dunno. Never mind.

Is that Scholes' retirement game? if so, when was it?

His testimonial was last night against a New York Cosmos team (ie. the reboot of the old NASL team that has Cantona as it's General Manager and aspires to get into the MLS one day) that included Brad Friedel, Robbie Keane, Dwight Yorke, Robert Pires, Patrick Viera, Fabio Cannavaro, Wayne Bridge, Nicky Butt, Brian McBride and Michel Salgado as well as some Cosmo u23s.

Utd won 6-0.

Strong lineup for City, still laugh that Milner is getting in ahead of Johnson though.

I've had a fiver on us to win 2-1 and also a fiver on Rooney to score first. We've also gone different up top, Welbeck apparently up top with Rooney, very interesting. De Gea starts as does Young, fantastic news.
