General Snooker Thread

The Crucible Curse has struck once again as Brecel goes out. He has lost in the first round in six of his seven tournament appearance, with the only exception being when he won the whole thing last year. It's quite a strange record to have.

Ding also lost yesterday. Out of his eighteen World Championship appearances, he's only got past the second round six times, which is really strange when you consider his record in other tournaments. He lives in Sheffield as well, so it's not as if it's a case of travel fatigue.

Stuart Bingham and John Higgins are through.

Lisowski played some brilliant snooker in the final session, but certain bad decisions showed that he deserved to be eliminated. The most egregious - fouled on black twice and got a forfeiture warning in the penultimate frame, then lost the frame specifically because the foul points put Bingham up enough that Lisowski wasn't over the threshold. Then again, that frame went over 25 minutes without a single pot, so it was weak play and safety shots by both for quite a bit.

Meanwhile, Higgins beat Allen in a decider that came down to a single point. Quite dramatic, that.

So, down to 8 players.

My prayers worked.

Now the tournament is really interesting. You've got only one former winner in Stuart Bingham, who is nine years removed from his first title. Kyren Wilson is a former runner-up and two-time losing semi-finalist looking to make the next step. David Gilbert lost in the final frame of his semi-final in 2019 and will want to make amends. Jak Jones is the big outsider playing in only his second semi-final in any tournament.
