As much as I would normally agree to moving Spearing on, I would keep him for this window if Lucas is going to miss 2-3 months. He will be needed for coverage in that holding spot, although Allen would still do the job better. Especially with Sahin in now, I see him dropping into that role every match for the most part.

I suspect Allen/Sahin/Gerrard will be the central three most of the time with Lucas out.

I always thought Spearing was not naturally a holding midfielder too?

The 40k a week is true from what I understand, but the fee is "only" £4.5m up front, with the rest in clauses related to promotion
