You just need to be accurate and pick your shots. Focus on any clickers since he can fight the others whilst you run around to get space, and he does throw you some more ammo if you run out.

The only thing I can think to do is let every infected in so they have a chance of dropping ammo, but the 1HKO factor makes it tough as balls.

I tend to find they don't drop ammo unless I knife them when I already don't have any.

Is this the first cabin part where you first get the hunting rifle? Should easily be able to clear that once David gives you the extra ammo. If it's the second part after you find the remains of his crew, then yeah, you just need to persevere. OHKO is a bitch for that whole section.

Try ignoring the ones closest to David, he can down in three punches and has a gun of his own. focus on who/whatever is on the otherside of the room and just pray he tops your ammo up.

Worst case scenario, if you have a bottle (can't remember if there are any in that section) throw it and shiv them whilst they are staggered, instant kill.

No bottles, I'm hesitant to knife them most of the time since it seems really half and half as to whether it'll work or you'll wind up 1HKO'd.

Does depend on the situation, once the numbers thin out its a good way to conserve the ammo though.

Phew, did it. Basically waited for whenever they were in the cabin to shoot them, and whenever it was just a single infected, just knifing them unless absolutely necesarry.

It's less patience, more adoration for the game. I completed the game twice in the first week I had it, which I've never done, and spent months on the multi alone, which again is something I've never done. It genuinely is probably my favourite game ever, and the sheer intensity of grounded mode, even at its toughest, is only increasing that love.

Also managed to get to the Joel part in winter last night before deciding to call it a night. As far as I can remember there's now only one ridiculously tough section left, the triple bloater, which will hopefully not be too bad as I've managed to keep the bulk of my flame based supplies. So from here on out it should theoretically be smooth sailing.

Also, I wound up with waaaaay too much ammo at the end since I did stealth at every opportunity. So that final corridor was fun

Oh, also also, I always remember fighting my way through the three bloaters, but I realised that I could stealth my way through last night, which saved soooo much headache.

Discovering I have to play the game from the start to earn my weapons on a NG+ rather than going through chapter select has pissed on my bonfire
