Then again, I still think it's Gary Mitchell. Khan's just too obvious a choice. :shifty:

Also check out this Dark Knight Rises inspired first poster art.

Given that TDKR took its basic plot structure from Star Trek: Nemesis, right down to having Tom Hardy playing a villain from a warrior caste shrouded in mystery and dying in a fist fight with his opposite number, Paramount totally has the right to steal something back.

But either way, it's Khan. No way that random ship isn't the Botany Bay. Still kind of awesome that, instead of Kirk discovering him, Khan just comes back. It's also nice to see a future Earth involved again. Definitely going to be interesting to see stuff beyond the Academy and Iowa.

I like Benedict Cumberbatch, both as an actor and a thing to say.

I really he isn't playing Khan, I really hope.

Haven't watched the teaser yet (can't at work), but Benedict Cumberbatch screams "Vulcan who's a bastard for some reason" to me.

Me too, I was looking to see if he had fake ears on. :shifty:

Have watched it now. Motherfucking YES! :w00t:

Surely it's odds-on to be Khan. Definitely not Vulcan. Does super-human leaps whilst carrying fuck-off gun thingy. Casting Cumberbatch would make sense in that his natural portrayal is innately intelligent enough. Even his clothing seems like the sort of thing they'd make up as being near-future (not 1996...lol).

Either that or it's a new character entirely, which of course we can't discount. Looks awesome either way.

The tiny bit of extra footage at the end of the

confuses the hell out of me though.

Unless what I'm seeing is the Kirk/Spock death scene from Wrath of Khan with the roles reversed. :shifty:

I so hope its Khan. Though I don't think that the Botany Bay rising up out of the water. If you pause it, theres clearly an NCC number on it. The Botany Bay was a pre-Starfleet sleeper ship and I don't think had an NCC number on it, rather was just the SS Botany Bay

and I don't see what indicates that its the WOK scene with the roles reversed. Its very similar..Kirk staring at Spock and them putting their hands on the glass.

Well either way round, really.

They're more than capable of fucking with us just for the sake of fucking with us, of course.

Ah, the Japanese trailer clarified that the ship rising out of the water is being pulled out so it can crash in to a coastal city, most likely San Francisco. Looking at it, two nacelles, NCC number - I was way off-base. I kind of want it to be a new villain, though, just for kicks. Nero was new, why not yet another enemy that TOS-Kirk didn't encounter? Or, hell, maybe he's from TAS?

Wasn't there an early rumour that Cumberbatch was playing Gary Mitchell? If so, that could explain the superhuman leap, and possibly the ship being pulled out of the water and flung into San Francisco.

Anyway, I've seen somebody describe Cumberbatch's Voice-over in the trailer as being "ear porn" and I couldn't agree more!

I'm amused enough by the jokes that this all follows on from Sherlock Holmes' "death" and he ends up transported through time/experimented on by aliens/fucking nuts somehow/all of the above.

Because it's true: if Sherlock were a Star Trek villain, they'd all be fucked.
