EASFL Champions League Final - Estadio Da Luz, Lisbon, Portugal - 24th May 2014

N7 Dragons vs Goldenballs FC

It was meant to be the fairytale ending to the ultimate comeback story, the N7 Dragons taking their place atop the footballing world after overcoming monumental odds to reclaim their rightful place atop the EASFL pyramid. Alas, the Champions League final would only end in heartbreak and tragedy for the Dragons and their supporters.

Though Goldenballs striker 'Jacko' might not be one to look at, with his witch-like nose and a face that looks like it has taken a severe beating from a shovel or six, one cannot dispute his prowess in front of goal. The blue haired poacher dancing through the Dragons defence before slotting past the onrushing goalkeeper to leave the Dragons with a lot of work to do. With Goldenballs stacking their defence after the opener, it was a task that proved frustrating for the Dragons, unable to break down the wall that Goldenballs had erected in front of their goal. But, in dramatic fashion, the Dragons pressure finally paid off late on as wee Jimmy Dean scrambled in a dramatic equaliser with only moments to spare.

Another gruelling thirty minutes played out in extra time with neither side able to find a winner, leaving this grand occasion to play out from the lottery of the penalty shoot out. With a few almost comical misses on either side, it came down to the 5th and final penalty for the Dragons to be taken by one Adam Dawson. He needed to find the net to send the shootout into sudden death but his effort was saved magnificently by the goalie. The devastated midfielder sank to his knees as the Goldenballs fans were in raptures. The Goldenballs goalkeeper raced away to join his teammates in their celebrations but in his haste, he inadvertently struck Dawson in the head with his knee. The mood quickly changed as it was now medics and club doctors flooding the field to check on the downed Dawson, the situation quickly escalating as he was carried away to a waiting ambulance and rushed to a medical facility. The star of the Dragons midfield would never wake from his coma...

As if fate hadn't already dealt the Dragons a wicked hand already, just a few short weeks later club chairman, CEO and COO Gary 'Sick Note' Priest was out talking the clubs Dawg in order to take his mind off the whole situation. After spotting a rather lovely lady walking in the opposite direction, he turned to see her walk away and bask in awe at her lovely derriere. Perhaps a little too sharply though as one of his brittle knees gave way, the Dragons icon crumpling in a heap on the pavement, his girlish screams startling the Dawg and causing it to bolt into the road. An oncoming driver tried to hit the brakes but couldn't stop in time...

Having stopped to survey the situation, the driver frantically got back into his vehicle and fled the scene. Even though there were witnesses on the scene, the police were unable to find the driver. They would go on to play down conspiracy theories that placed a car with the liscence plate 'R4F4 T1M3' at the scene.

With cataclysmic events more befitting of an episode of Dream Team rocking the club, the Dragons chose to spend the next season in mourning and were brought back into the EASFL fold in a slightly lower position. With their remaining players returning from temporary loans, albeit with Priest still crocked and Jay Summers carrying a slight injury that would rule him out of the opening part of the season, the Dragons will have to reassemble and fight on to get back to Div 1, not just for themselves but for the memory of Adam 'White Men Can't Jump' Dawson and 'The K-Dawwg'.
