I think some may be misunderstanding what 'country' means these days.

It does not mean you are a sovereign state (i.e. a proper country ). In fact with the way it gets used it's vague enough to mean 'just some place'.

I understand the need in that article to make the distinction that Wales is not a principality - the Prince of Wales being a title without significance and all that.

Although what they've actually done there is point out that "no, Wales is not this type of recognised political entity, instead it is Just Some Place".

Maybe they're happy with that. Not much else going for Wales, after all.
