  1. After watching the third episode of the sixth series again, it's now one of my favourites. It has: - Bartlet distraught offer Leo's heart attack, blaming himself - The lead-in to CJ as Chief of Staff - Debbie Fiderer - Josh trying to give up junk food The perfect mix of drama and comedy.
  2. Oh fuck off until you can contribute something.
  3. Then talk to the BBC/ITV/Hello/Ok/Channel 4/EMI/Manchester United/20th Century Fox et al and tell them you want the money put into the public coffers. Don't blame those who take it, when I think we both know that neither of us would turn it down.
  4. I'm not saying it helps, but you can't seriously believe that's the source of the problem. If we're going to talk about overpaid, let's talk about footballers, or pop stars, or actors. Yeah, they contribute to society, but are their efforts really worth what they're paid?
  5. I'm not going to pretend that Jade Goody's death has bothered me in any real way. She was a pain in the arse, and she was a pointless celebrity, but really, in the reality TV age there's more and more pointless celebs, so it's not as if she's the devil incarnate; she took advantage of the opportunities presented to her. Just one comment that jumped out at me; Nerf, the idea that pointless celebs are what fucked up the economy is nonsense. Goody may have been a millionaire, but she never even approached the amount of money that the banks were fucking around with. I think it's ridiculous to suggest that the media sensation after she was diagnosed was an attempt by her to milk the last publicity wagon she was ever going to have; she did it to leave money for her kids, and to publicise her disease (which hopefully will have long-term benefits). It was tacky, sure, but I can't honestly say that I wouldn't do the same thing in her situation, because I haven't been in it, and unless any of us are terminally ill, we can't say for sure either. It seems like a few people on here have a bit of a chip on their shoulder. I'm not going to suggest for a moment that the definition of a good parent is someone who makes sure their child has loads of money, private education and lots of holidays; I'm from a working class family, I'm the first on both sides to go to university, and I'll always be grateful to my parents for how they've raised me and instilled at least somewhat of a drive in me. Money doesn't make you a good parent, of course, but a good parent worries about their children. It's hard to imagine the worry that Jade Goody, or any other terminally ill person with young children, must have been going through, and she did what any parent would do; what she thought to be best for her kids. I'm not saying that any parent would have encouraged the same media circus, but they would have done what they thought was best for the kids. So I'm not going to be shedding any tears, but I'm also not going to damn her to hell before she's even cold.
  6. He did that for Linfield about three years ago >_>
  7. Fine them for unprofessional behaviour.
  8. Marley & Me - 6/10 The missus dragged me along to this (I owed her one after dragging her to Watchmen. Of course, she conventiently forgets that she liked it >_>), and turns out it's not a bad movie. Nothing I'd want to see again, but I didn't feel cheated, and it was an alright way to put in a couple of hours.
  9. As I said ages ago, I want contract negotiations, where for example you can demand complete control over transfers. As well as that, I'd like your manager to have a randomly-generated player history, which would affect your job prospects. So, for example, if you were a legendary Newcastle midfielder, then Newcastle might be more willing to offer you a job, while Sunderland would avoid you because of potential fan backlash.

    Bob Dylan

New album, "Together Through Life" has been announced, and is out late April. Really pleased about it, considering the rumours that Modern Times was his last ever studio album.
  11. What's your favourite dramatic game? I'm not going to look at this objectively right now; my favourite was Linfield's 1-0 win over Glentoran last night. In second place and four points behind the Glens going into the game with six games to go, we needed a win to get back into it. 0-0 for ages, despite our dominance, and then a goal 30 seconds from time Sorry, I thought I wouldn't be euphoric the next morning, but I still am >_>
  12. So, favourite episodes? Mine's probably "17 People" (because of lots of Toby), with "Two Cathedrals" in second, I guess.
  13. My favourite non-main cast character. Strangely enough, I'd only found out he had cancer the other day, and was shocked at how gaunt he looked.
  14. The song was looped. The first verse was used twice.
  15. Are these from people who have or haven't read the book? The book is by no means perfect, so what's wrong with that?
  16. Got tickets for one of the January gigs. I guess me and the missus could go if it's then, but the price they're selling at makes it more tempting to flog them.
  17. I'm happy enough with that. I can seen a few nerves for Arsenal going into the last few games with Everton just behind them. Sunderland (my team) are round about where I expect them to be, and I think the three teams in the relegation spots are all in danger of it. I may have overrated Wigan (especially them, actually), Hull and Stoke, and underestimated Newcastle, however. EDIT: Bah, fucking image. Anyway, the table was: 1. Man Utd - 96 2. Liverpool - 84 3. Chelsea - 80 4. Aston Villa - 75 5. Arsenal - 67 6. Everton - 64 7. Man City - 51 8. West Ham - 49 9. Wigan - 47 10. Tottenham - 45 11. Sunderland - 45 12. Fulham - 42 13. Blackburn - 42 14. Stoke - 41 15. Hull - 40 16. Bolton - 39 17. Newcastle - 36 18. Portsmouth - 36 19. Middlesbrough - 33 20. West Brom - 24
  18. I registered for tickets, but in all likelihood I won't be able to go. Still, I have a holiday to New York in September booked, so the money would be handy there if I had to sell them.
  19. 1. Queen - Another One Bites The Dust 5. Stealer's Wheel - Stuck In The Middle 6. Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song 8. Limp Bizkit - My Way 15. Alice Cooper - School's Out
  20. In the graphic novel, Rorschach once worked for a dressmaker, and his mask is a piece of a dress that had a black substance in between two layers of white cloth, which moved around according to the body's heat patterns.

    Frost/Nixon

Just got around to watching this. I'm actually surprised there hasn't been another movie made (aside from All the President's Men) on Nixon given his status as one of the controversial figures in American history. The movie is really well done. I liked the start which almost had a documentary feel to it. Yes it drags on in the middle but had my interest from start to finish. Now I understand if you're not into politics you might not like this but it is one of the most important events in American history. Frank Langella's portrayal of Nixon is really well done. Given the political situation we've seen in the US in the last 8 years this movie did come out at the perfect time. Can you imagine a journalist landing an interview with Dubya...no holds barred.....and what could come out of it. Its a shame that politicians are babied and coddled so much now. People really should read the book from Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein and watch the movie that followed. I have to dig up the actual Frost/Nixon and watch it as it was obviously before my time. This probably is a rental as most people aren't into politics but it should be watched by all. If you want another Nixon film, try the one by Oliver Stone. Great movie.
