  1. "Woman" sounds like Deep Purple to me.
  2. If you are fired, you still get paid for the remainder of the contract. If you, however, find another head coach job in the NHL, you won't get the money. If you resign, you don't get the money either.
  3. Dale Tallon shows Trent Yawney the door. www.chicagoblackhawks.com Yawney Out, Savard In As Head Coach Adam Kempenaar November 27, 2006 After winning just three of their last 15 games, the Blackhawks have replaced head coach Trent Yawney with assistant Denis Savard. Yawney was in his second season as the Blackhawks' bench boss, posting a record of 33-55-15. "The bottom line is wins and losses and we needed to win more," said general manager Dale Tallon. "We've had some injuries, but in spite of that we're a better team than our record shows." Tallon wants his club to play a more up-tempo style and believes Savard can move the Blackhawks in a new direction. Savard, a Hall of Fame player who has been a Blackhawk assistant since 1997, is excited about the opportunity despite the unfortunate circumstances. "I've always wanted to be a head coach," Savard said. "The circumstances are not the greatest because when you take over for somebody mid-season it means things did not go as well as we all expected. "We're not happy over the last few years as far as our win-loss record is concerned," Savard added. "The players have to share that responsbibility. But we're looking to move forward and go in a new direction. Tallon expects a second assistant coach to be added at a later date. Don't know what to think about it just yet. I was thinking Yawney was close to getting fired after clashing with Tallon about Arkhipov's and Salmo's ice time. He didn't really do a bad job - you have to remember core players being hurt and all. But he also didn't inspire the team to give it all every night and they just lost too much. I love Savard, but I'm also not too happy having him as the head coach again.
  4. Damn. It was hard. I answered Rob Zombie - Dragula for number 5. And I thought I had it.
  5. Speaking of the Coyotes, apparently Gretzky has a beef with Ladislav Nagy: Gretzky scratches Nagy for 'inexcusable' error He's still had 9 points in his last 9 games (no goals though). He got benched in the previous game. Asked why he pulled him, Gretzky said, "I think it's pretty obvious . . . I didn't think I was gonna miss his three goals this year in the third period."

    Greek Mythology

Check out the Wikipedia entry for Greek mythology. It has a list of references and books.
  7. East looks pretty close, so it's hard to say who will make it to the playoffs yet. But I also think West has the better teams this year. In the East, only Buffalo (and maybe New Jersey) can match the top Western teams like Detroit, Nashville, Anaheim, Minnesota, San Jose and Dallas. From the games I've seen, West looks a lot stronger so far.

    Incoming

I don't think I know any 2007 releases yet. At least none that I'd be interested in. And it's probably going to take me a long while to check out all 2006 releases.
  9. You watched ALL episodes of Angel in ONE DAY? That's quite an achievement considering that's 110 episodes, one hour each.
  10. - Nigger! - Hey, that's totally uncalled for! - That's what you get when you interrupt the white man. I thought that was hilarious. Probably funnier than the rest of the show.
  11. Why would they allow stuffing the ballots? Shouldn't be too hard to delete any redundant votes by the same IP. But I suppose an online vote to decide all-stars is a bad idea in the first place. People are stupid. Never let them decide anything. That's why even the political system is fixed so that in practise there's only two presidential candidates (yes, I know there are actually hundreds, but who votes for those other guys?), who are both chosen by experts. Just because Toronto has more fans than Anaheim doesn't make their players more deserving to be in the all-star game. People vote for their favourites, not for the most deserving players. With that thinking, Rory Fitzpatrick deserves to be there as much as anyone else. Did they at least bring back the "minimum of one player for every team" rule?
  12. Chris Jericho, KITT and George Costanza.
  13. Nice win over the Ducks last night. Khabibulin made his return and played good. Refereeing was awful and totally favouring Anaheim. Chicago scored to tie the game at 2 when Ruutu gets called for interference (he barely touched Bryzgalov, and he was out of the crease) and the goal is disallowed. Anaheim scores on the powerplay to make it 3-1. Moments later, Ducks run over Khabibulin. Khabby gets called for a penalty. It was ridiculous. Luckily they tied it up and won in a shootout. Along with Khabby, Tuomo Ruutu was the hero of the night, scoring the game-tying goal, the shootout winner and hitting lots. He only got third star - even the officials choosing best players were biased. Ducks' Penner (no points) got second star. Scott Niedermayer (0+3) got first.
  14. The Hawks are turning the ship around somewhat. Points from last four games, 2-0-2. Still, they should have beaten Phoenix. I wish they'd dress an enforcer. No point in having guys like Arkhipov and Salmelainen in the lineup. The schedule hasn't been bad. But now there's a tough west coast trip. Khabibulin should make his return in the next game. Havlat is also skating. I hope he is back soon. Rene Bourque is out with an injury. A skate to the throat, ugh.
  15. Maybe it's just me, but I found the clips way too short. You can only make out one note or a chord or sometimes just a grunt or a single word. I'd rather have a full melody to try and identify, like from an instrumental break or something. Like 10 seconds per track or so. Anyway, I sent in my answers. Most of them are pretty much guesses, since it's really hard to place such short samples.
  16. What classical songs have Apocalyptica covered? I think they only do heavy metal. As for Trans-Siberian Orchestra / Savatage - as far as I know, they haven't covered classical music either. They sampled some Christmas tunes and use an orchestra in the TSO side project, but that's about it. Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24) is composed of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and Carol of the Bells, which I suppose aren't really classical music. They did play parts of Edvard Krieg's In the Hall of the Mountain King for "Prelude to Madness". I can't remember Malmsteen playing classical music either... Actually it's a tough subject. Several metal bands use tiny bits of classical compositions, but to actually cover a full song or a movement is quite rare. Usually if they need orchestration, they tend to compose their own orchestrated parts. Like what Rhapsody, Helloween, Nightwish and Blind Guardian do.
  17. I don't think rating your nominations does any good to the list. Unless there's more than 50 participants, everyone's #1 will reach the list. I don't think a show deserves a top 50 spot based on one voter. I believe it should be more about how often a show is mentioned, not if it's a couple spots higher or not. After all, it is only top 10 or 15 shows you nominate - it's a small number and all shows there are probably pretty close to one another in quality. Also, I don't think one #1 spot is equally valuable to ten #10 spots. I mean, #10 out of all the thousands of shows is pretty good in itself and #10 is incredibly close to #1. However, you could incorporate BOTH approaches and give points based on rank (reversed) and add in a 100 points. So #10 gets 101 points and #1 110. Or maybe just ten points. That way it's based on number of nominations, but ranking is still used in breaking ties.
  18. Apparently Sundin has injured himself and will miss 3-4 weeks. Meanwhile, Martin Havlat's 3-4 weeks has turned into 5-6 weeks and "when he gets back, he won't be the same player he was earlier in the season". The injury might nag him for quite some while.
  19. Of all the albums mentioned so far, I like the White Album the best. Probably also the only one that could crack my personal top 100.

    Dream Evil

Never seen them live, but the video for the Book of Heavy Metal is just insane awesome.
  21. Been listening to Rainbow. 'Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow' in the morning and 'Rising' just now that I came back from visiting my parents.
  22. There's like two people who voted for Twin Peaks? Definitely needs more votes.
  23. Tell him A Semblance of Normality is the best album they ever made. I like Martin Walkyier, but the new sound along with Ridley is just brilliant. EDIT: I go to see them live last year. Good show, but I was disappointed they weren't all drunk on stage.
  24. So far I've only bought four albums all year. The others I've heard/samples haven't been worth the purchase, in my opinion. So either it hasn't been a very good year, or I've been missing out on stuff. The ones I did get Queensrÿche - Operation: Mindcrime 2 Blind Guardian - A Twist in the Myth Iron Maiden - A Matter of Life and Death Circle II Circle - The Burden of Truth Guardian and Maiden would have probably cracked my top ten of 2005. Queensrÿche sold me on Mindcrime 2 with their original 1988 classic (and Dio as a special guest), but I wouldn't rate it that highly. Circle II Circle I'm still in the process of digesting. Concept albums tend to take their time. Either way, I don't know - often times it actually takes me over a year to even think of ranking different releases.
