Nah. Will watch it this weekend. I've heard good things about it. Any other good punk/hardcore docs? I've seen the Strummer and Sex Pistol ones.

Just working on the recommendations. Don't think I forgot about them. Read a feature on Darby Crash the other day. The Germs are probably one of my favorite hardcore bands, and after reading the piece, I'm even more fascinated by Darby Crash. It's hard to tell if he was a genius, mentally ill or just strung out (or a combination of the three). The dude was definitely very fascinating and interesting. Shame they made some crap Hollywood movie about his life starring the dude from A Walk To Remember.
  3. EDIT: Also, GoGo, did you hear the Aras and Rob C podcast? It made me like Aras way more than I did before. He's got a great head on his shoulder and really does understand the game. Not so much when he was out there, but he has some great insight into the game.
  4. I've always found Pedro Almodóvar to have really interesting movies from a feminine and queer perspective. I've always found his perspective on woman (particularly feminine sexuality) to be very interesting. Talk to Her, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, Bad Education, Broken Embraces, and All About My Mother are all very interesting movies. Other recommendations for great feminist film studies: Catherine Breillat, Mira Nair, Kelly Reichardt, Todd Haynes, Lucrecia Martel.

  8. Barring anything crazy happening, Kim is winning, which has been fairly obvious since day #1. Sabrina MAY win, but I just think Kim has gotten more focus as a strategic threat. I can't get over what a stupid move Chelsea made tonight telling Jay he was going in the next few eliminations. I than couldn't get over how dumb Jay was when he voted out Mike. Chelsea just told you that you "are not necessarily going home next". Doesn't that signal to you that you are going home verrrry shortly and that maybe you wanna flip the script on the girls?
  9. That man is the ugliest person alive. Chromatics - Kill For Love. Mehhhhh. Fort Romeau - Kingdoms. Great from head to toe. Mi Ami - Decade. Interesting at times, with some cool ideas, but doesn't work for me. Scuba - Personality. Solid, but not amazing. Madonna - MDMA. Maybe time to take the horse out back and shoot it.

  11. I thought The Comeback was really good and ahead of it's time. Great, brutal satire of reality television and definitely knew the direction reality television was heading.

How the fuck did I never listen to Minutemen? Fucking fantastic band. Double Nickels is amazing. Holy shit. Really enjoyed Agent Orange Living in Darkness. Mixed bag of styles and sounds, really enjoyable. Avoids monotony. Dead Boys and No Alternative are great bands as well. I'm not enjoying them as much as Agent Orange and Minutemen, but still really good bands. A few of the bands I had heard before but just fell of my radar - Minor Threat, X Ray Spex, X Crass, the Germs - still sounds as great as they did before. The Germs probably the most of all the groups. Any other recommendations on more female fronted bands, Verbal? I'm pretty well versed on the riot grrl movement of the 90's - Team Dresch, Bikini Kill, Sleater Kinney, L7, Babes in Toyland. But anything worthy pre-Riot Grrl worth checking out in the girl department? Or any good riot grrl bands who I may overlook? Still making it through everything. Was just caught off guard by how much I enjoyed Minutemen so thought I'd post my thoughts thus far.

  14. I'm not completely down on this season like GoGo is. It's good. Not great. Not excellent. But it's good. Last night merge episode was predictable and a bit tepid, but I didn't completely hate it. I think what is evident is that the producers really got fucked over by Colton going home. Colton was the editor's wet dream - a sociopath, racist nut job who was good train wreck television. Losing him to an injury just sort of left the season limp. They built the first 6 episodes around him and than he goes home via injury. No great, triumphant blind side with an idol in his pocket. He just goes out quietly without any sort of pleasure for the audience. And it sort of leaves the editors in a situation where they know have to figure out how to edit and frame the rest of the season, which seems to be "girls rule, boys drool".

    The Hunger Games

Do explain the gender and race issues you had?

    The Hunger Games

Saw it last night. Bar in mind, I have never really heard about Hunger Games and wasn't overly excited to see the film. Given that, I don't see what all the fuss was about. The beginning was alright, the middle was very good but that ending was miserable and so predictable. I found some elements of the movie really problematic for me regarding gender and race.

    Jet split up

When they were still a band, I wished they would die in a horrible plane crash. Now, I'm just hoping for some long term illnesses. Not deadly. Just something uncomfortable.

Thanks for the recommendations. Will check some of these out on YouTube and will report back. Also, sorta related... I forgot how shitty Road to Ruin by Ramones was.

Looking for stuff mainly pre-1985. I'm pretty open minded over any suggestions on bands. The only reason I specify 85 is what I wanna cover pre-85 first and than go back and get everything after. I'm asking for recommendations because I lost a great deal of my vinyl collection and I'm now looking to reclaim some of it. My mind is pretty hazy and I'm know there are lots of folks on the board with extensive punk knowledge (looking at you Verbal). I've got the major guys covered: Clash, Ramones, Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Descendents, the Slits, Bad Brains, etc. So fire away. Anything obscure I'm missing? I tend to prefer straight up punk rock more than the more new wave stuff like Wire or hardcore stuff, but I'm open minded.
  21. Yeah the very first episode. I usually adore the AMC output, but Mad Men just never caught my attention. I'll give it at least half way through teh first season before I give up. I'll probably end up adoring it.
  22. Mad Men first episode was kinda meh. The reveal at the end is the only thing wanting me to come back for more.
  23. Strange. I googled Colton Survivor interview and nothing came up. Well, in that case, than he we are spared back to back seasons of Colton.
