  1. One memorable match was part of a memorable storyline in my GM mode. The nWo (Nash and Hall CAWs and Hollywood Hogan) were invading smackdown. It was a tag match with the outsiders vs London and Kendrick (CAW). My friend was playing a Hall and I was using Big Kev. I'd just tried to pin London, Kendrick breaks it up. My buddy enters the ring as I'm picking up London, and kicks Kendrick in the gut. We both have stored specials. WHAM! Synchronised Jacknife on London and Razors Edge on Kendrick. 1-2-3 New Champions. Possibly my coolest match ever in SVR 06.
  2. Glad Davids is staying. I still don't think he has the legs to be effective over a WHOLE season, saw him against WBA last season and he had a shocking game, but for the start of the season and our first European games he could be vital. Him and Zokora in central midfield would be a solid partnership, with Lennon and maybe Zeigler (providing we don't sign another LM before the start of the season). If he's rested at opportune times then I don't see why he could't be there at the end of the season too. And we have plenty of cover in the middle of the park. I think Chimbonda will probably sign in the next two weeks as well, and then the main weakness from last season is plugged, we'll have two solid full-backs in Assou-Ekkoto and Chimbonda. We've also got some good covering players in Lee, Stalteri and Ifil (Lee and Stalteri won't get caught out as much if they only have to play a game or two as cover, or in rotation). Ghaly seems to have been getting some good reviews. Anyone got any info on him. Havn't seen him play, and wondering what his position in the midfield is. I think we'll probably line up in a 4-4-2 for the start of the season, but 4-3-3 seems to be a realistic alternative (a PROPER 4-3-3 with 3 strikers, as opposed to the Chelsea version with Cole and Robben as more 'attacking wingers' effective though it is). It would be interesting to see how other teams would respond to Keane dropping deep and Defoe and Berbatov staying up front. It's good to have a couple of effective systems to play. Also on the plus side I can see Defoe getting recalled to the England squad, in light of there really being no other strikers available (proven at international level anyway) I can see Crouch and Defoe forming a good partnership for the first few european games while Rooney serves his ban and Owen gets fit again. Lennon looks to have a shot on the right flank too if Beckham is going to 'concentrate on getting fit for Real Madrid' before returning to the England fold. Just about the only downside I can see at the moment is the injury to Ledley King. Fortunatly Dawson has gone from strength to strenght in central defence, and Davenport had an impressive debute last season too. so hopefully they will be solid till the captain can return. COME ON YOU SPURS!
  3. The X-Wing books are awsome, even better if you grew up playing the X-wing series of games on which the series is based. The later X-Wing novels tie into the graphic novels (which I think Stackpole wrote later). Check out 'In the Empire's Service' that's pretty cool for a graphic novel.
  4. Glad to see that Arsenal won't get any money for him either. Lol. Campbell has been a shadow of his former self this season, and he doesn't really warrant his England place anymore.
  5. Well Leds getting back to fitness is good news. We missed him on the last few games of the season. Hopefully we might get to see some of Terry Dixon in the friendlies, he seems to be a hot prospect at the moment. What does everyone think about the rumous we are bidding for Downing? Personally I'd prefer to see Reto Ziegler return to the left-midfield position.
  6. I liked the ep. The way they dealt with Rose was good. It looked like she was going to die, then she was saved. Only to be stranded from the Doctor, never to come back again. The re-uniting of Jackie and Pete was a nice send off for the characters, re-uniting the Tyler family. Having Rose working for the Parrellel Universe Torchwood was a nice touch too, she's still making a difference in her own way. The 'Goodbye' scene was very poigniant. The Doctor 'Burning up a sun' just to say goodbye to Rose through the final crack in reality, in 'bad wolf bay' no less was an emotional ending to the first overall story arc of the 'new Who'. And not having him say 'I love you' to Rose was very sad, and final (though we the veiwer and Rose herself knew he was going to before he cut out). I'm thinking that she could come back at some point, as the scene lacked that final bit of closure, and Rose is arguably the only companion that the Doctor has loved. Phenominal acting by David Tennant and Billie. As for the Dalek/Cyberman Smackdown I thought it was great. Interestin to see the Daleks get the upper hand, but as the oldest Who villians it was only fair. The Cybermen are still very scary, and who knows what will happen with them both stranded in 'the Void?' The Daleks 'Genesis Ark' being a Time Lord prison ship was interesting, I thought it might have been some form of stellar manipulator (like the 'Hand of Omega') but it was a nice touch. The 'Black Dalek' escaping via 'Temporal shift' was interesting, I wonder when he'll turn up again?
  7. I remember a 'Stone Cold' vs Vince match that was funny (on C Deathmatch). And I loved the idea of SCSA building a time machine. Havn't seen the new series yet, was hoping it'd be good.
  8. It's not going to matter too much on the field, Terry, Neville, Gerrard and Beckham are all leaders on the field. Beckham having the armband on meant that he was the guy who led the team out, called the coin toss, gave most of the interviews. It didn't much change the way he played, and not having the armband wont change his game. What will change is off the field. Beckham was a figurehead as England captain. He was focus for the media, it was all very neat, tidy and glamourous for the FA to have 'David Beckham: England Captian' at their disposal. I'm glad he chose to step down. Like I said the captaincy doesn't matter too much on the field when there are so many influential players in the side, but at times it seemed like the focus was more on Beckham than on the team, having Gerrard or Terry as captain will hopefully take some of that pressure of him, and the team and they can focus on getting back to form.
  9. Hopefully Carrick AND Davids stay, Carrick for the long-term good of the side and Davids for his European experience (he can't be good for a whole season anymore as we saw with his dip in form last season). And let's hear it for Aarron Lennon! I was so impressed seeing him play for England and trouble International defences with his pace. He took to World Cup football like a duck to water and it's a shame he didn't get to play more.
  10. On reflection of the match yesterday I've gotta raise a few positives: 1. Owen Hargreaves: He's really answered his detractors with his performance during this tounament. He hasn't really put a foot wrong and drove the team forward with his energy yesterday. I was critical of his selection prior to the World Cup (arguing that Defoe should have gone instead of him), but he thouroughly deserved to be there. 2. Peter Crouch: He should have played from the start, he put in a heroic performance, holding the ball up front single handedly when we were down to 10 men. He's gone from a 'Good' England player, someone touted as a good prospect as a sub, to a surefire starter in most peoples opinion. He should definatly keep his place. 3. Joe Cole: IMHO England's best player of the tournament, the solution to the 'Left-sided problem' He always looked dangerous with his running, skill and desire to take defenders on. Our best player based on our performance. 4. Aarron Lennon: Being a Spurs fan, I was so chuffed with his performances, it was a shame he didn't get MORE of the ball when he came on. He's proven his worth to the England team, many people I speak to think he should be in the side ahead of Beckham (and they arn't all Spurs supporters either). He did on the International stage what he's been doing to Premiership defences all season, scare them with his pace, and long may he continue. Anyway, I'm now (after a good night's sleep) thinking about Club football again. Here's hoping for a good season come September.
  11. from all the rumous it looks like Rose is going to die :-( Shame as I've become a big fan of Billie Pipers acting (after catching 'The millers tale' a while ago) and I'll miss her. Also it seems from the ending of this episode that there is a tragic feeling to the Doctor and Rose's 'Romance.' The depth of feeling between the Doctor and Rose has been one of my favourite elements of the 'New Who.' Much like the 'will they/ wont they' element of Chrichton and Aeryn's relationship on Farscape was. I guess I'm just an old romantic at heart. We KNOW that Billie's leaving, and Season 3 will be interesting, I doubt the Doctor will have a similar relationship with his next companion and it'll be interesting to see how he deals with being without Rose. I liked the premise for this episode, it managed to be very scary without being graphic at all. Roll on next week, Torchwood, Cybermen, Daleks? Looks like fun. Though I'm intrigued that Torchwood, the Agency that Captain Jack will work for, seems to be so much of a 'big bad.' Maybe we'll see Torchwood vs UNIT down the line, Always had a soft spot for the Brigadier. I'm convinced he should be the new PM in Who now that Harriet Jones seems to be on shaky ground at the end of the christmas invasion.
  12. Actually, in addition to my earlier post: Three letters E-C-W, E-C-W! With all the hype about it it would be fantastic if it made it into the game as a third brand. Imagine the storylines: ECW one Night Stand (you could be challenged to an EXTREME Match in front of the ECW crowd). Or be drafted or invited to join ECW as it 'Goes Global' in storyline mode. In addition you could control ECW in GM Mode (imagine you and a couple of mates choosing a brand each and going head to head). (anyone else getting deja-vu seeing RVD with the WWE/ECW title after playing the ECW storyline in the 2006 version?) Unfortunatly SD games have a history of dissappointing us in this respect, as I recall they missed out on being able to include the invasion storyline for that year, and it always seems like some hot storyline or Wrestler or team gets left out: MNM, Animal & Heidenreich's LOD (well I'd have liked them, there are bugger all Teams on the 2006 version). Hopefully, with the games 'roster cut-off' being around Summerslam IIRC, then they have time to fit ECW into the game. The early screenshots seem to indicate that they are prepared for an extreme element for the gameplay (what with all the weapon shots and suicide dives!). What does anyone else think?
  13. And Poland are looking stretched now!
  14. all together: 'OOOOOOOOOOOOhhh!' Near goal.
  15. Maybe not Rasiak then. Poland look more dangerous for the moment though.
  16. This game needs RASIAK!!!
  17. David Ginola #14. Like as not Sol Campbell #23 Ledley King #26 Beckham #7 (no matter what number Madrid give him). Owen #10 (ditto) Don't know about retiring shirt numbers though. People were suggesting that the #7 shirt should be retired at Utd after Best died, but that would mean that the 'heritage' of the shirt, and all the great players who'd wore it would end, so I'm glad they didn't.
  18. I'm not sure how the Veyron would do around the TG track. The Koenigsegg was enough of a handful, even with the wing. The Veyron is awsome in a straight line, a missile, but I'm wondering whether it would have the agility to beat something like the Zonda or the CCX 'with TG Wing.' Lets not forget, it puts out 1000bhp at full chat. Brilliant if you are going in a straight line and wanting to top 250 mph, not so good when it comes to putting rubber down exiting a corner.
  19. Cheers for the advice but i've got a couple of memory cards already. One has some early CAWs on it and Me and my mate's old GM game, My main one has my current CAWs (a mix of TNA and current WWE, with Goldberg, Bob Orton and Jushin Liger for good measure!) so that's the 'keeper'. I'll save the new CAW's to my old card, and use that as my new GM mode game! Cheers for the heads-up though. EDIT: Been looking at the SD v RAW sites and seen mention of 'updating' the game, modding it and burning it to DVD, and using a chipped playstation. It'd be kind of cool to add in more music for the game, bring it up to date, with music for the new CAWs and such. Anyone have any good links to pics/vids/info of where it's been done? Most of the hacks (layer edits, unlocks, extra characters) are in the game saves to be downloaded anyway, i suppose its just the music I'm thinking of. It's probably a lot of work, but that said it would be cool to have 'king of king's 'boooyaka 619' and stuff like Goldust theme, the DX theme, 'Enter Sandman' and a bunch of older themes for CAWs instead of the 'Origional themes' that are on there.
  20. Fair enough. Just ordered one. Can't argue with the advice, or be bothered to spend ages makingwrestlers anymore!
  21. Looking to update my roster with all the current WWE/ECW guys for a EPIC GM Mode around my mates. I need CAWs for: Khali Finlay Goldust UMAGA Mickie James Kenny and Mikey (and the rest of the SS) Tatanka Vito Mr Kennedy.....KENNEDY!!!! i don't have a max drive (how much are they usually btw) so need CAW formulas. I am going to have a go at my own, but if anyone knows some really good ones I'd appreciate a link. cheers.
