Eric Burden & TheNameOfTheBandSlipsMyMind's version of War is awesome.

Is this the song with the lyrics "War, what is it good for, absolutely nothing"? If so, then I suggest the version D.O.A does, a good punk rock alternate to the original. They were a good 70s, 80s bands for the thread starter to look into.

Well, I grew up in the 80's, but I mostly listened to hard rock and heavy metal back then (but I did listen to other stuff).

Songs I'd recommend:

White Wedding, Rebel Yell, Eyes Without A Face, Flesh For Fantasy - Billy Idol

Private Eyes, Maneater, Family Man, I Can't Go For That, Method Of Modern Love - Hall & Oates

Don't Stand Too Close To Me, King of Pain, Every Breath You Take - The Police

Stayin' Alive, Jive Talkin', How Deep Is Your Love, Dancin' - The Bee-Gees

Just about anything by AC\DC

Just about anything by KISS, except their disco stuff (which bombed) and most of the stuff they did post-facepaint removal (they did do a few good songs without the facepaint, like Hide Your Heart and Tears Are Falling, but most of it was crap).

And there's one song I absolutely HAVE to recommend:

The theme to Shaft by Isaac Hayes. That song is the shiznit, and is cooler than the version he did for the Samuel L. Jackson movie.
