Metal Gear Solid 3

First time through it took me 23 game hours to complete. That didn't include times when I loaded it up for half an hour or so and tried to play and realise that I was mentally and physically deficient that morning and so turned it off again.

That 23 hours included cutscenes (I'm guessing that's included in the final time) and I dunno if it includes all the times I died and had to go back to the start of the 'level'.

It felt longer than 23 hours and there's a lot of different 'areas' such as forest, swamp, mountains, more forest, trenches, bases, sandy areas, caves to work through which makes it feel like a real journey.

I'm also about to start it for the second time as there's loads of extras to pick up (such as camoflage and face paint options) and rankings.

There's also the chance to beat your best times in boss battles and six "Snake vs Monkey" levels that you have to get best times on (which is hard) to get more camo...

And there's a number of difficulty levels.

All in all I'd say it's worth it for the experience.

I got it yesturday and played for 5 hours and 19 minutes straight until I was too tired to go on. By that point... I had just entered the dock where you get the sniper rifle. This morning, I woke up and played until I beat The Fear.

Question though; if you kill The End on the dock, is there a cutscene? I shot the guard, and got him once while he was already behind the door and it was closing, I'm just not sure if I killed him.

The End is in a huge forested area after you go back through the small warehouse and through the newly unlocked door.

I'm playing through again and I'm just into the Snake Eater mission in the lake with all the crocs where there's the croc hat apparantly but you have to climb up a tree, shimmy along a rope to another tree, drop down and then shimmy along more rope to the cap.

THe problem is everytime I drop off the rope I miss the stupid branch...

HOW CAN THIS BE HAPPENING TO ME?!?!?!? I spent ages yesterday trying to do it before giving up for the day. Stupid game.

Not really, I  MGS3!

Well, I got bored with MGS3 after I was upto near the End. The first one I could play countless times, Sons of Liberty was decent, however, Snake Eater just hasnt kept me interested for very long, then again, I could be going off PS2 games :( I need a really good game to make me start playing again.

Although, on the game front, its a very good game, and the SNAKE EATER~! intro and theme rocks my socks. Definitely a game I want to get back into and complete when I can find the time and be bothered to get into it. Also, it took me like an hour to get the croc hat :P

I kept feeling like I wanted to play Metal Gear Solid 2 again, but the thing that ALWAYS stopped it for me was the main portion of the game, the Big Shell. I did not want to play the majority of the game, on the same place, going to the same place etc.

Shadow Moses Island was more varied than that, so I can still play MGS. MGS3 is ever more so, with more little soldier and camo quirks so it's going to be easier to play through.

MGS3 certainly has a lot of variety.

SO many different areas, loads of ways to get through each area.

Do you shoot the guards? CQC them? Interrogate them? Throw snakes at them? Throw rotton food so they eat it and get sick? Sneak past with camoflage? Leave porn for them? Become the box?

It's a real gaming masterpiece, actually seeming a pretty decent size when you first play it. It's only the second time you play it, or when you look at a walk through, that you realise that it's actually quite short.

I like the gameplay of MGS, but the stories? massive transformer things? no thanks, it'd be the best game ever if it was set elsewhere.

Were you using your camoflauge index good? If you're in the grass, laying down with proper you'll get at least 80% and if a guard gets close enough, you'll have a good shot at him in the head for a tranq.

I think the story needed the Metal Gears to set it apart actually, mudda. It's not like they're transformers... they're bipedal tanks in the later times.

I just hate the whole story, take it away from all this robot shit, set it in a city or something, give it a more realistic 'present' story and it'll be the best ever.

To me, the Metal Gears thing is a bit crap.

I really believe it's one of the best stories ever, with it's twists, how when playing through Metal Gears 1+2, and Metal Gear Solid 1+2 you think that Big Boss is the bad guy, but then you come to learn about the Patriots etc. It really is an amazing story, huge huge respect to Hideo for planning it out like that.

It's an alternate history, I believe Metal Gear 1 was set in.. 1998 or 1999?
