13 years, 38 teams...Premiership for stats fans

Recommended Posts

Since the Premier League began in 1992, 38 teams have played in it.

Looking at the stats for all the teams I have ranked the teams from most successful to least.

Ateam that finished first in the Premier gets one point, eighteenth gets 18 points and 3rd in the 1st division (or Championship) gets 23 points (20+3). The team with the least points is most constant, or successful within the league setting.

Also included is the team's highest league position, lowest and how many seasons they've spent in the Premiership. Plus any local rivalry info.

1. Manchester United. 21 points. (Av 1.6)

13/13 seasons in top flight. Highest finish: 1 (8 times). Lowest finish: 3 (3 times).

Manchester United have always finished higher than Man City since '92.

As I mentioned in the intro, 31 is the position in the country that season.

That would mean they finished 11th in Division 1 that season. As 20 in the Premier + 11 = 31!

Easy!

That's why Fulham will be so low as they spent a number of seasons in the third division!

How come Newcastles lowest is 23rd, when we won Division 1 in the first prem season and have been up since?

You answered your own question. In the first Premiership season, you were 1st in the First Division, leaving you in 23rd position.

Oh, and the fact that the Premiership used to be 22 teams has probably confused you.

After the 94/95 Season, four went down (Ipswich, Palace, Leicester and Norwich), and only two came up (Bolton and Middlesborough).

This new distraction was probably what led to such strange occurences as Forest finishing third, Arsenal finishing 12th and Blackburn winning the league :shifty:

Fucking excellent aye. One of the best bits for me was how English the first team was. Flowers (English), Kenna (Irish), Hendry (Scottish), Berg (Norweign), Le Saux (English), Ripley (English), Sherwood (English), Batty (English), Shearer (English) and Sutton (English).

8 out of 11 is pretty good as I prefer my players to be home based as it kinda means a bit more. Include the home nations and the only 'foreigner' is Berg. Mind you the league then hadn't had the influx of foreign players it has now.

Yeah, I went on talking about nothing but it was a great day when we won it. At least I have seen them do it my lifetime.

You left out Jason Wilcox (English). :-p

Not forgetting, "Super" Mark Atkins (English), as Batty was out most of the season, and Tony Gale (English), as Kenna only joined very late in the season.
