Man Utd 3 - Newcastle 1

A great win once again especially away from home. Found to be lacking slightly, United only tightened they're hold on the game once the equaliser was scored and from there proved to be the greater team. Newcastle fans will have plenty to argue about...

Plenty is an understatement =/

I'll only say. The penalty could of gone either way, thats true enough. But if this had at been at Old Trafford and it was United in dire straights, the referee would of never given the penalty :( Oh well, we probally deserved to lose given our terrible use of the ball in the last third. And why is Bramble still in the squad? I thought Souness would of sent him back to Ipswich by now, then again maybe not, Ipswich are too good for him.

Penalty for me, no doubt about it. There was contact and if I was a referee I wouldn't have even had to thought about it for a second.

The game was pretty damn good too. Is it just me or has Fletcher all off a sudden turned out to be really good? I'm not his biggest fan or anything, but he's improved if you ask me. The first goal was lovely, couldn't have done it better myself. The Newcastle crowd was pretty hot and Shearers goal was bloody class, yet crap defending at the same time by United. I think United deserved the win by far and in all honesty they should have scored more than three.

Either way, good result for them.

I'm just a little annoyed that Rooney got all the credit the next day. Sure he scored two goals, both well taken, but he didn't do much else in the game. Plus Alan Smith got absolutely no credit for his header that led to Rooney's second. Roles reversed, I doubt Rooney would've been brave enough to stick his head in there. But it's been the same all season, players like Smith and Heinze have hardly been praised since it's all gone (Not all undersevingly) to Rio and Rooney.

Man Utd 2 - Charlton 0

Two wins in succession for only the second time in the season, a great result in that respect and hopefully a much needed kickstart. United dominated as expected and produced two fantastic goals with both Scholes and Giggs (with a deflection) picking up their first of thier respected seasons in style. The game itself was slightly one-sided, Charlton recieved good service but never threated at goal with only one shot on target after 90 minutes. With both Arsenal and Chelsea dropping points today with draws, the day couldn't have went better.

FA's new man 'hates United and all they stand for,' says Dyke

Daniel Taylor

Tuesday December 14, 2004

The Guardian

The Football Association's hopes of improving its precarious relationship with Manchester United have been seriously undermined by fresh allegations that its new chief executive Brian Barwick is a self-confessed United hater.

The revelations were made yesterday by Greg Dyke, the former director general of the BBC, where Barwick was once deputy head of sport. He claimed that Ferguson had once described Barwick to him as "that bastard" and says his appointment will "certainly have ruffled feathers" behind the scenes at Old Trafford. "It wouldn't be going too far to say that he hates United and all they stand for," said Dyke.

Barwick, who will take up his new position on January 31, had switched off his mobile telephone last night but Dyke's comments will be of intense embarrassment not just to him but also to the FA councillors who were responsible for his appointment. There was no comment from the FA last night.

One of Barwick's priorities as Mark Palios's successor is supposedly to heal the rift that has developed between Soho Square and Old Trafford in the wake of the Rio Ferdinand affair. However, Dyke all but confirmed Ferguson's long-held suspicion that Barwick, a Liverpool supporter, was responsible for United never winning the BBC Sports Personality of the Year team award after their Double seasons in 1994 and 1996.

"Brian has never been a Manchester United fan," said Dyke, a former director at Old Trafford. "When I arrived at the BBC in late 1999 it was the year that Manchester United had won the Treble. Brian had recently left the corporation to take up his new role at ITV. So when it came to choosing the team of the year it was the first time for many years that Brian hadn't been involved.

"There was never any doubt that the award had to go to United and the whole team plus Sir Alex turned up to collect it. So I was rather surprised a week or so later when I got a call from Sir Alex, who thanked me for making sure United had won. I hadn't done anything and was puzzled. Alex explained there was no way United would have won if 'that bastard' Barwick had still been there."

Dyke added: "I said that I was sure Brian would never have let his hostility to United stand in the way of the right decision. The next time I saw Brian I relayed what Alex had said. 'Too bloody right,' he said. 'They'd never have won it if I was there.' I think he was joking. I hope so for the sake of peace at the FA."

Ferguson has steadfastly refused to make any comment about Barwick's appointment since it was announced he was leaving his position as head of sport at ITV. It had been reported that the two men had put their differences behind them and Barwick's associates had claimed he frequently "popped into Fergie's office" for a drink before televised matches at Old Trafford.

Yet, deliberately or not, Ferguson's refusal to speak of Barwick's appointment, despite numerous media requests, has indicated there is lingering bad feeling. The United manager often faces accusations of paranoia because of his insistence that the FA favours other clubs, most notably Arsenal and Liverpool. Barwick's first job when he moves into office may be to make a public statement declaring that will not be the case while he is in charge.

So we've drawn AC Milan then.

Its going to be an incredibly close match but I think we will just shave it. I think having Rooney and Ruud playing for us will be the thing that tilts it in our favour. If Ruud or Rooney are injured at the time of the match then it will be hard for us to get through I think but both sides are so well matched you cant really make a clear judgement. Should be one of the games of the champions league this season.

It will be really close and will go right to the death. But i honestly think AC Milan will snatch it, Shevcenko is a class striker and will take some stopping, also Man utd havn't been really consistant all season, they was in a good run recently though

Rooney Faces Three-Match Ban

Wayne Rooney could miss Manchester United's next three matches after being charged with violent conduct by the FA.

The charge relates to an altercation between Rooney and Bolton Wanderers defender Ben Haim during the Boxing Day match at Old Trafford. The United striker was not booked at the time; the incident has since been brought to the FA's attention on video.

If Rooney does not appeal against the charge before 18:00 GMT on Thursday, he will be suspended for the New Year's Day trip to Middlesbrough and the home matches against Tottenham (Premiership, 4 Jan) and Exeter (FA Cup, 8 Jan).

If, however, the United striker does lodge an appeal, his case will be heard by a disciplinary panel on Friday.

Haim, meanwhile, has been charged with improper conduct.

I still cant fucking believe what as happened, IMO it could of only happened at Man Utd. That is how sporney and lucky they really are and people say the official are not biassed for certain teams. That would of been a goal anywhere else in England, the linesmen really needs his eyes testing and should be dropped down to division 3 football but then he still would be too high in his job. Even if Carroll was in the way of the ball in the refs opinion he could of noticed half of Carrolls body was over the line, even the managers noticed it was a goal.

And people wonder why i hate SCUM :@ :@

You should pay attention.

The linesman had his head down, sprinting. And from the angle, it wasn't an easy decision, from his position, anyway. Same goes for the referee, he was way too far away. It wasn't down to bias officials.
