But he should have been good with Thornton as his center, and even then he never got past 29 goals. Seriously, for what he is getting and how highly touted he is by some, Samsonov has yet to prove himself to be this elite scorer. Maybe this year will be his year. But think about it. Micheal Ryder already has gotten 30 in a season, yet no one talks about him.

Samsanov and Thorton are both playmakers. Koivu and Kovalev can both score goals. He's in better shape now.

Samsonov, a playmaker?

I have never heard of anyone touting him for anything except his speed and scoring. However, you could be right and that would make him a better fit in Montreal where Kovalev is a true sniper and Koivu is another guy who can move the puck. I've just never heard anyone call him a playmaker.

Sammy's career numbers. Only twice in his career have his number of goals exceeded his assist total and neither of those were in the NHL. Samsanov has been noted as being a dangler with amazing hands who can anything he wants with the puck but absolutely refuses to shoot it. If you want to call a guy whose career high in goals is 29 a goalscorer, then okay. But to me, a goal scorer is a guy who is nearing the 50 goal plateau on a normal basis, and definitely has no problems with shooting the puck. I mean, he's a guy who played with the best playmaker in the league in Joe Thornton and couldn't manage to hit 50 goals. He made Jonathen Freaking Cheechoo into an Art Ross winner for fucks sake. But, either way, Kovalev and Koivu aren't afraid to shoot the puck, and while Koivu might be the best set up man of the three, Samsanov is still not a pure sniper, and likely will not lead the three in goals. He'll do okay for points, though, so he's a good bet.

At least the Habs finally got a win last night. Granted the tying and winning goals came against Glass, but at least we got the offence going with a 42-25 shot advantage, which is good, especially because they only dressed 2 NHL Defensemen.

Gerber played an outstanding game. If anyone else was in nets, the Habs had the chance to run up the score, but He played a solid game. Abeschier, well, he played... average. 3 goals on 25 shots isn't the best of starts, but I haven't seen Huet play much better in the pre-season.

The Habs have to contend with the special teams. They seem inept at killing a penalty and I believe that both of Spezza's goals were on the PP.

In any event, 2 weeks from now, none of the pre-season matters.

Zherdev has FINALLY signed with the Blue Jackets, signing to a 3 year deal for a total of $7.5 million. Now the Jackets can boast having Freddy Modin, Rick Nash, Anson Carter and Zherdev along with Gilbert Brule and Sergei Federov. Thats a lot of offence.
