METALMAN

Recommended Posts

eh yeah basically just looking for some new music to listen to. And now with the wonder of Spotify I can check it before I get it too. :D Wonderful.

Anyway I'd welcome any sort of recommendations from anyone, any genre and from anytime.

Particular things I'd like to hear more of are:

British/Celtic Folk/Folk Rock

Americana

Post-Rock

Ambient

Alternative Country

Orchestral stuff

Some psychedelic but not total naff stuff

jangly rock stuff

folk/folk rock in general

scary ambient music. Like side two of Bowie's "Heroes" but scarier.

Any instrumental jazz

Electronic jazz

Jazz fusion

Husker Du kind of stuff

wussy indie pop. Belle & Sebastian for example.

epic post-rock

jazz music with piano at the epicentre

music with trombone

music with rotary/hammond/rhodes organ

art rock...anything from Roxy Music to...Art Brut(?)

good punk music. Not pop-punk. I've had enough of Green Day, blink-182, Offspring, New Found Glory to last a lifetime. Not rubbish punk either.

jerky post-punk. gang of four/talking heads etc.

hick music

...or anything really. thanking you!

GodSpeed You Black Emperor- post rock, instrumental, genius

65daysofstatic - Dance mixed with post rock. A lot of build up and big crashes.

Mono - The most amazing japanese band ever. Instrumental, nu-classical. Awesome - if in the right mood. Huge songs, with minutes of build up at a time, but amazing background music or thinking music.

They're shit. And the reason it got a "haha" is earlier that same day/or a day or so before, can't really remember, me and Metalman were actually talking about how shit Godspeed are. They're absolutely dull as fuck.

What is rubbish punk exactly? I could probably help but don't want to give you "rubbish".

"jerky post-punk. gang of four/talking heads etc." - The Stranglers, Suburban Lawns, Swell Maps, The False Prophets, Pere Ubu (technically not post punk, but sort of fall into this category), Television (same as Pere Ubu, not post punk but sound similar to what you described). There are a couple of compilations called "Rough Trade Shops" that have are dedicated to post punk, as well as the "URGH! A Music War" set of live shows. Actually, the Urgh! A Music War can be found on youtube.

Sorry I haven't got back to you before this. All these suggestions look interesting and I definitely look forward to delving into them! (Y)

Oh and as for Godspeed!, I must admit not to liking them very much at all(although considering how fickle I am that could well change :P) but I can certainly understand why other people might like them, so each to their own, eh? :)

I'll definitely check out your other suggestions when I get the time though Ignition. Mono in particular sounds fantastic.

Just a pity that every time I seem to post one of these "i've got loads of spare time to listen to music" threads I start to get a life again and don't have any time to check it out. >_>
