NASCAR 2011

Not sure how well this will fly here but lets give it a go..

After the #23 car of Kurie Busurray won the Bud Shootout, a mess of changes have been made to the cars air intakes. What does this mean for the qualifying races Thursday and the Daytona 500 on Sunday? Your guess is as good as mine. Discuss!

Are you Kurie Busurray? I'm only asking because Kurt Busch won the Shootout in the # 22 :P

If the race on Sunday is as lame as the Shooutout was, with a bunch of 2 car drafts, NASCAR's "Super Bowl" will be a bust. It doesn't really matter though since Jimmie Johnson will probably win his 6th straight championship anyway.

I'm guessing Bussaway was in the ARCA race and not the Bud Shootout.

well here's what I know will happen, the cars will be grouped in a big pack...maybe 2 big packs. There will be at least 1 big wreck. Everyone will have an equal chance at winning (basically).

I love Nascar but it's time to give the "Super Bowl" to the Charlotte 600 race or up the Brickyard to 500 or 600 miles and give it the "Super Bowl". It's a boring race that will end up with someone winning that nobody expects. That being said it is the Daytona 500, the beginning of Nascar's season and I can't wait to look at these cup cars that actually look like CARS flying around the track!!!

GO #99 & #11

That's just going to make it more awesome when Dale Jr, possessed by the ghost of Dale Sr, wins the race. :shifty:

Damn...I wish Junior would have taken Jimmie out with him...

hell I wish that was the Daytona 500!

I've always said if someone ever takes Jimmie out on purpose he or she will become my favorite driver. I don't care if it's Kevin Conway!

I probably won't post much in here after this Sunday since the next 25 races (with the exception of the Brickyard) are pretty much meaningless, but the racing today looks a lot like the Shootout. A bunch of 2 car packs all over the track. The commentators are basically saying there is no benefit to running in groups of 3 or more and you're dead if you try to go by yourself. If the Daytona 500 boils down to groups of 2 slingshotting past each other for 500 miles, this will be the worst scenario possible.

How is that any better than everyone riding in a pack? It's just made Daytona different. I don't look at it as a negative, it's still exciting to watch. Every race is bigger this year with the 2 slots open for most wins.

You could move up from way back in the pack in a lap or two under the old rules. IIRC that's how Harvick won a few years back. What I've seen in limited time this week is a bunch of cars with no hope of moving up on the leaders once they're already outside the front 3 groups of 2. Cars having to pit together and wait for each other to get back out on the track isn't going to make for exciting racing.

True what Naiwf said about the next 25 races or so being meaningless.

I do not think this will be a good race. Usually 1st time surfaces do not do well in terms of a good race.

The Dale Jr. thing irks be, because he was basically penalized for winning the pole. You know that Truex doesn't have to start at the back because he hasn't officially qualified yet. Something isn't right there.

My theory on why NASCAR decided to change the points system this year is because of Jimmie Johnson winning the championship 5 years straight. And that's a problem because the reason he won it isn't because he's a uber, hot-shit, Richard Petty or Dale Earnhardt level driver, but because the quality of drivers in the series has gone down the toilet during the past decade.

NASCAR used to be more exciting, because back when it was still the Winston Cup series, you had a lot of competitive drivers as well as drivers with personalities. Now you have younger drivers, which is not a bad thing, but not a lot of personalities and not a lot of competitive talent, either. I don't have favorite drivers so much as I have drivers I hate to see win (Can't stand either of the Busch brothers, for instance).

The one thing I wish NASCAR would do? Either get rid of the road course races OR stop teams from substituting a road course specialist fans don't give a shit about for their regular driver during those races. (If they dumped one of the two, I'd rather they keep Watkins Glen and dump Sonoma. I don't like the Sonoma course and that race is usually boring as hell)

I'm bloody surprised nobody has come in here to abuse NASCAR and those who like it. I won't do it because I have turned face again. :)

It's the only reason I'm even in this topic.

My family likes Nascar. I went to a couple races when I was younger. Now I'm just lol, nascar

Alright, there's your obligatory hating right there. Carry on...

This is the most ignorant post about Nascar I have ever seen.

A. The points change isn't going to change the outcome much

B.. They are trying to get back to 'letting the boys race' to give them personalities, not fining them for getting into arguments, etc....give it time

C. That's always how it was for me. First it was Jeff Gordon I never wanted to see win and now it's Jimmie Johnson.

D. I wish they would add more Road Courses, it'd show off who the better driver was OVERALL. Only teams around the Top 35 in owners points substitute, you still get to see the big stars, the race isn't that long and some of the craziest wrecks in the past few years have came from road courses. I wish they'd get rid of so many 1.5 mile tracks that are so similar because that's not showing how good you are, thats saying if you can figure out a 1.5 mile track you can dominate on those tracks which is at least 1/3 of the season.

If anything, one of my biggest complaints was ... seeing repeat races at similar style tracks.

Only certain places really should have two events. Like Daytona, Charlotte, Bristol. Showcase more towns, tracks, etc... They started taking races from places like Rockingham and North Wilkesboro to give second shots in New Hampshire or Texas. And does Pocono really need two? I always remember seeing ads (even in the Nascar heyday) in NYC saying plenty of tickets were available.
