The "Best Album"-Thread

Lately, I've had many discussions with friends of what the best album of 'Band X' is. Since it's always great fun, I decided to do the same here. It works like this:

1. I'm going to start out by naming a band. The next person who posts states what he/she thinks is the best album of said band.

2. You give some reason why you think it's the best. It can be from any standpoint at all, emotional, technical, having fond memories of a song, the artwork is great ( :shifty:)...I DON'T CARE. Just post something.

3. You then name the next band, the next person is going to decide on the best album, and so forth.

I hope everyone is going to have fun playing this and who knows, maybe we will discover something cool we didn't even consider!

For starters, I'm going to name a band that I've grown very fond of recently.

Muse

And of we go.

Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water.

It was cool to listen to when I was ten, and I still like a couple of songs from it today, which is not the case with anything else from the band (except for Break Stuff).

For the other two I have:

Muse - Origin of Symmetry

Metallica - Master of Puppets

Nirvana

In Utero, mixes the raw edge of what Nirvana are without being as dull as Nevermind can be (I used to be a massive Nirvana fan as a lad, and Nevermind while great is a little dull to me nowadays). I did almost choose Bleach as its such a good mix of grunge and punk I still love it to this day...

other answers:

Muse - Nothing, they are terrible

Metallica - Ride The Lightning

Limp Bizkit - Chococlate Starfish...

Next Nine Inch Nails

I like With Teeth best. I find the earlier more highly acclaimed ones boring and just noise for the sake of noise. With Teeth, while not brilliant, does at least deviate from this a bit. Piggy is still my favourite individual track though.

Muse - OoS by miles

Metallica - puppets

Um...um...how about the Strokes? Seeing as it is topical.

Muse - Origin of Symmetry

Limp Bizkit - none.

Metallica - Black Album

Nine Inch Nails - Downward Spiral

The Strokes: Is This It? As if that's a real question. The Strokes have been an abomination ever since.

Let's stick with the rock theme: Radiohead...

Muse - Showbiz

Limp Bizkit - Significant Other

Metallica - The Black Album

NIN - The Downward Spiral

Nirvana - Nevermind

The Strokes - Is This It?

As for Radiohead, definitely has to be The Bends for me.

Ok, Pearl Jam for the next one.

I wouldn't say that The Strokes have been an abomination ever since 'Is This It?' Juicebox is a quality single and I really like Undercover of Darkness. I've heard pretty decent things about the new album and I'm looking forward to giving it a listen.

Muse - probably Absolution. I feel resentful for the current state, but that album in particular had a big impact on me.

Limp Bizkit - KEEP ROLLIN' ROLLIN' ROLLIN' ROLLIN' (Chocolate fucking Starfish fuck)

Metallica - The Black Album, although it's a tossup between it and the Master of Puppets album.

NIN - With Teeth (with Year Zero a close second, I didn't prefer Trent until the mid 2000s stuff, honestly.)

Nirvana - Nevermind (Although, In Utero has a more interesting conceit.)

The Strokes - Is This It?

Radiohead - OK Computer. I love the Bends, but I always didn't feel it was as special as the entirety of Ok Computer.

Pearl Jam - Ten (While the self-titled record is pretty underrated, I feel like it peaked with Ten and the rest is enjoyable, but not phenomenally great.)

The New Pornographers.

New Pornographers are a band who despite seemingly insatiable love from a lot of sources, I find a tad bland. "Mass Romantic" is easily my favourite, if purely for the strength of the title track, "Centre Of Holy Wars" and "Letter From An Occupant".

And, Placebo.

Is This It is their best but thats hardly a bad thing, its fucking amazing. I happen to love First Impressions of Earth and listened to without knowing ITI came before the second one is pretty good. Just bought Angles so reserving judgement as yet, but having seen them at 18 on the first tour its safe to say I'm a fan...

Placebo - either Placebo or Sleeping With Ghosts. Probably Sleeping with Ghosts to be honest, its mint.

Erm, I'm far too indie, most of my suggestions would be met with meh's (unless anyone wants to do Super Furry Animals?), so Feeder to get a reply.

Muse - Whichever has Time Is Running Out on, that one.

Limp Bizkit - Significant Other

Metallica - Master of Puppets

NIN - The Downward Spiral

Nirvana - Unplugged in New York. Or if we're not allowing that, Bleach.

The Strokes - First Impressions of Earth

Radiohead - OK Computer. But I don't particularly like any.

Pearl Jam - Ten

New Pornographers - No idea.

Placebo - Sleeping with Ghosts

Feeder - Comfort in Sound

Prodigy - Invaders Must Die

Red Hot Chili Peppers?
