Just in case anyone's missed, you will have to have Steam downloaded this year to activate the game as part of FM's efforts to combat online piracy. Bit of a pain, but from the reaction on the official forums you'd think SI were asking you to mutilate yourself to get the game to work.

That's mainly from all the people who pirate it though...

Well, most of the people who are opposed to it seem to think it won't do anything to stop online piracy, and it'll be cracked anyway. I know nothing about how hacking and torrenting and the like work, so they might be right, but they're still cretins for threatening to boycott the game because they have to download an additional program to go along with it.

Eh, I doubt it'll go much cheaper than that prior to release (I'm using Amazon). That Play.com USB stick looks stupid to me.

Currently wondering how I will play my initial game. I know I will not be able to resist diving straight into Chelsea management with all our swish new players etc., but the question is where/when to go from there.

One idea is to move onto a different country once I've won the league and try to win as many of the top leagues as possible. The only downside to this is that it seems like a journey I ought to be making from a small league up, rather than starting off in England, and so perhaps might be better left for another time.

Alternatively I could stick with Chelsea and just be ridiculous, making it my aim to beat Manchester United/Liverpool/etc. for the most number of Premier League/FA Cup/Carling Cup/Champions League trophies (20 year game ahoy ).

Basically, I need a gimmick. Suggestions are welcome. >_>

I always find journeyman games are the best. I usually start at a middling Championship club (Usually Leeds...) and go from there.

It's a steamworks game so yeah, it has to be played through Steam. That's why I didn't mind this place, usually they have their own client, but it's Steam this time.

I'm pretty sure if you're using the CD, you just need to validate it via Steam. Otherwise the disc would be pretty fuckin' pointless.
